As a relative newcomer to TYT, only a couple years or so and someone who never shelled out for cable TV, I loved this bit of back story. I remember listening to TYT on NPR on the weekend when I was living in Olympia, WA some six or seven years ago. Then this old lady discovered TH-cam and rediscovered you. Love you and the whole TYT family. Love, Light, and Blessings from a Radical Boomer. (We are out here and in numbers that might surprise you. We are the ones who fought for women's rights and abortion, fed and held the hand of folks dying with AIDS, supported the Gay Pride movement, friends transitioning genders, the legalization of marijuana, etc. We are frustrated as hell that, in our 60's, we are having to do it all over again.)
Wow. Great speech. Cenk does a phenomenal job at TYT and I have the utmost respect for him. Very intelligent man.

This is an important story for reasons other than simply as an inspiring tale of the rare triumph of integrity over "perks" (although that is important too obviously). This story's greater importance is that it challenges the notion that the corruption of the mainstream media is motivated merely by the self interest of the media company in their profits. If that were the case they would have retained Cenk and let him do his thing since that decision would have increased their viewer share and, in turn, profits. So this is NOT a story of a reporter challenging power and the media corporation steering away in search of profits. This is a story of the media company declining profits in the service of maintaining power on behalf of the powerful.
For lack of a better word, this is a story of conspiracy to commit thought control at the sacrifice of profit. It's not that the media is not doing it's idealized job because there is no money in it. It's that the media is doing the job of influencing the public, and doing so not as an independent business but as an arm of the oligarchy.
MSNBC should be sued for investor fraud. MSNBC has a mandate to maximize investor return. They have no right to do otherwise simply because "friends in Washington" don't like it.

This is why I love TYT. I disagree with them constantly but their integrity and commitment to the people and not the power reels me in. I doubt ANY other journalist/ news anchor would've sacrificed what Cenk did.

You hit the nail on the head. The biggest problem with the mainstream media is they are more concerned with access then looking for the truth. Politicians lie to journalists face and the so called journalist never challenge them for fear of not getting future interviews to get ratings. I don't always agree with you but I respect your integrity, the media needs more honest journalists like you.

I think something very similar just happened with Joy Reid. Her afternoon show continued to meet ratings expectations throughout the entire time the show was on the air. She was one of the smartest political minds on MSNBC. They should have left it alone for at least 1 or 2 years because she was building a pretty loyal fan base which is evident when you look at her twitter account. She has more followers than some of the well known prime time hosts. I still don't understand why they pulled it so quickly. If you're going to give someone a show, at least give them time to make it work.
On a different note, I believe someone told Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell to stop covering stories where unarmed African American men get shot by police. They use to cover those stories every time a new one occurred, and then all of a sudden they no longer covered those type of stories. All they do now is updates on the incidents that they had already reported on... and every time they do an update they have a positive story about police officers immediately afterwards. I like MSNBC and most of the hosts but situations like that annoys the hell out of me. And don't even get me started on Chris Matthews new found love for establishment republicans. I still haven't figured that one out yet.
+DeMon Spencer Matthews has been pro establishment for a couple decades now. Not really much difference between the Clintons and establishment GOP now. He loves one, makes sense he'd love the other as they've became more alike over the decades.

I do usually agree with the show on their politics but their is at times things i dont agree with on their news briefing/commentating. Either way i feel their news is usually fair.

April 2, 2018: San Diego, CA: This is exactly why I haven't watched local news (a bunch of nothing) and why I get my "real news" from TH-cam, The Young Turks for one. When I came across Cenk, I laughed, agreed with his views, and thought, "Oh, FINALLY, someone who speaks the truth." I'm well aware that Washington runs the newspapers and television "news". Ferocious? Me? Youre the one listing his points and putting bolds in 25% of your texts. About inmigrants, I think you only hear what you want to. People from the left just say that the crime ratios in the inmigrant population is not higher than in native population in the same conditions as them. If you want to reduce crime, improve the conditions of those classes. It's not simple thing to do, but it's pretty obvious. That there are some criminals among them is just an excuse to lump them all together ad create an estate of opinion favorable to the expulsion of those inmigrants. Same trick the black people have been subjected to, with the caviat that they cannot be expelled by law. Instead, they get incarcerated at monstrous rates, which makes it difficult for them to later on integrate back on society, and so on.
If you think a ban has to be explicit to be real you're completely deluded about how mainstream media works. And I know TYT complains about the lack of diversity of voices in MSM. It's in those media where you don't listen to dissenting voices. Because, as you pointed out, they fight to protect their bottom line.
What you don't get is that what you perceive as losing rights is really losing privileges that you got unfairly over women, black people, hispanics, disabled, etc. And that means your quality of life is probably going to diminish a bit comparatively, because you won't get all the breaks that you unfairly were getting before, just for being white. That in time will balance itself out and the whole society will benefit from it. Of course it will require a lot of time and effort, and there will be some missteps, as with any kind of process that is so fundamental to the advancement of civil society, such as the sufragist movement, the civil rights movement, the gay marriage movement, and so on.
Until then, chill a bit, it's better for your health.

Despite leaving Islam, he has long been an apologist for Islamist groups and action. After each IS-related terrorist attack, he can be counted on to come on the air and remind us all that Christians and Jews can be bad too.
In other words, multiculturalism is more important to him than rational evaluations of security and foreign policy, and he regards any intellectual discussion of the link between doctrine and action as bigoted and racist. That's the "left ideology" I was referring to, sorry if that wasn't clear.

Cenk is smart and an awesome host. I preferred watching the TYT primarily because of Cenk. Your personality and the way you convey the news is unbelievable and interesting. I know that every ending is undoubtedly a beginning. I wish you the best and know you will land on your feet. You're a powerful person and you're handling this as I would have predicted. You challenged your viewers to think and as far as you expressing yourself with your hands, I don't believe those guys at MSNBC, who moves more than Rachel Maddow she's totally animated. Thank you for the link to Rev. Sharpton's ratings, they are quite formidable. However, the site has very many articles and it is hard wading through all of them to find the relevant ratings to compare. The more recent ones speak of Olbermann being out-rated on current TV by Cenk, but I am unable to find the older ones referencing Olbermanns show where he hosted.

reminds me of the "improvement plan" my previous company gave me which made note of my "odd mannerisms" and gestures. I'm not happy I'm unemployed but now I have the opportunity to do what I want!

@fronkly350- Yeah, I'm seeing them too. I always skip, but then I wanted to see them and was sick to my stomach.
