I definitely miss the old uniforms as well. I've been a fan since 1989 when uniforms DEFINITELY were still in style. The biggest change was going from dark blue to a slightly darker blue. However, drum corps has DEFINITELY become much more physically challenging since the 1990's and what these kids are doing is INSANE on the field. Evolution is inevitable and DCI has never been shy about that.
All of you need to understand why the music for this show as it is. Not only their show has a theme it has a meaning to all of DCI. They still have months to clean and rearrange some stuff. Look at the most recent BD360 if you really care and want to understand
Everyone blasts BD about writing a whole lot of technical music and chops but when he actually starts writing music to fit for the show you say the book is awful and repetitive. People have too many double standards
It's all redone but kudos guys for bringing it WICKED Crispy! Super together. Maybe next year you will have a better show writer. You deserve some innovation and you lot are good enough to carry it off! Love what you did with what you were given.
Omfg that tenor solo!?! Jesus Christ vanguard 2012/18 are my favorite lines, but this is my favorite tenor solo (yes even with the rims) that's master level stuff
A little shaky at times but they are playing at a much higher level than other drumlines right now. Past couple years i havent liked the writing but i love it this year
They are playing a 4/4 bar of 16th note 5lets with double strokes placed on the second note of the first 5let, the third note of the second 5let, the 4th and 5th note of the 3rd 5let, and finally notes 2-4 of the last 5let. There are accents as follows On the 1st note of the 1st 5let 2nd note of the 2nd 5let 3rd note of the 3rd 5let And on the 1st note of the last one. Alternate sticking. Hope this helps!
evilclownattack late response, but recently, a lot of BD’s books are usually either triplet rolls, double stops, swung notes, awkward stops, and some of it have been reused of the years before. if you pay attention to finals of dreams and nighthawks, and watch metamorph, you can probably hear the resemblances in the books in many parts, example, the snare opening right before the opening impact can match the opening snare book for nighthawks
Talked to a system blue rep last year at world championships and saw the drums. They have wood on the inside, but it's like a 1 or 2-ply birch shell to keep the drum light. The shells can be interchangeable I think. I wasn't too keen on the birch shells last year because that wood plus the super tight tuning BD likes made the snares sound super thin. But the drums do sound much better this year, so I'm hoping maybe they switched the wood to maple or walnut. Or use a different (better) tuning. Who knows?
They use a quad carrier and use an attachment on the snare to allow it to be held by the quad carrier, If you watch Mile's quad cam you can see him switching from snare to quads.
To everyone who is talking s*** about the show this year I support bluecoats all the way but this show book is actually insane. I can guarantee none of you can play this and they're probably gonna win with this tbh. smh people
Slandering people that lack respect for the work drum corps people put in. It's obviously the designer/writer's choice about what is put into a final concept for a show, not the players. They're just vehicles for the production, in a sense.
just because you learn a book doesn't make you good. You probably couldn't play and put as much hard work as these guys are doing, you couldn't even perform on their level
Caleb "With as much practice as They've had I could probably do it." Yeah you could say that about literally anything. That statement means nothing. The point is you may be able to play this to your standards but not at the level that these guys are able to.
Conflux - Music and Art What do you want me to prove? That these are extremely talented musicians? If it's that then you should just re watch the video and pay a little more attention to the skill it takes to do what they do with the proficiency that they do it.
What happened to wearing a uniform in Drum Corps I plan to march next year as a snare drummer but it's like every one wants to do what The Bluecoats did last year. I miss seeing a drum corp wearing uniforms. I understand that it's about selling the show but it seems it has moved from that now. Only a few World Class Corps kept the uniform concept. It maybe a stupid topic I'm addressing but from listening to band director and techs in the marching world "anything you do visually on the field as far as costume or uniform concept it's please the audience and judges therefore you have better chance of winning" ok that's cool but what happened to you as a Rookie in Drum Corps dreaming about wearing that uniform that you worked so hard to deserve to wear. I hope uniforms comeback. It's not all about winning it's about the experience and education of each musician, I hope to march next year but I would like to be educated not pushed to win. Winning is a luxury and it's temporary....Education is long term and it lasts for ever. I'm not bashing DCI I want to be a member of one these elite groups someday but I'm hoping it goes back to wear a uniform and not a costume. BRING THE TRADITION BACK
RaiKwon Green while I also like uniforms and all, it's good to keep in mind that the marching world is very much an ever evolving activity that has its changes every year.
As a board member of a Dutch marching band that disbanded this weekend after a long struggle ( :'( ), I can tell you that I was proud of wearing the uniform. But at the same time, I witnessed first-hand that most young people here don't want to walk around in uniforms anymore. Even when ours were pretty conspicuous, compared to others in the region. In fact, it is one of the reasons why the corps/band activity is having a hard time over here, with groups shutting down all over the place for clinging too hard to the old ways, and the credo of "well, we've always done it like this" . So deviating from the traditional uniform isn't necessarily a bad thing if it keeps you going. As you said, if it helps the visual concept, then I'm all for it. In the end, it's not about the uniform, it's about the experience. That said, I personally think a well-designed, elegant uniform really adds a special charm to the activity.
Martin ter Denge for starters I'm sorry to hear that happened to your program, and I hope things will get better for you. It's also really interesting to hear a take on that from someone not in the United States. I was a part of a program that was hard stuck on tradition in high school so I know what you mean by a lot of that.
I liked the beginning this show, with all of the snares and then it goes to the normal line. But I feel like there’s a fine line between females in drumline and females in the Corps in general. If I ever try out for drum corps, I’m trying out for tenors, especially for BD, I want to be “that one female tenor player.” The reason for BD though, I lover the System Blue line for drums, I want those tenors sir sweeps so bad.
You would not be the first female tenor in BDA....they had one in the early years...I wanna say 74 or 75. The only place I have yet to see a woman is bass 5, and that's probably purely an issue of being able to carry the thing.
sam signorelli I know I wouldn’t be the first female Tenor but like you said it was earlier and I wanna be “that one bd tenor that was female that one year”
I really need to stop watching DCI videos because it's making me more and more insecure and jealous. 😂they make me want to quit instead of incouraging me . I can barely even play my simple tenor music now
Just practice I hopped from really simple base music to really hard snare (btw im not calling base music easy we just got new instructors and a new band director so the music was way harder that yeah trust me the base music was insane to)
You know your line is dope when EVERYONE has snare chops!
Funny thing is, ive gotten so used to traditional, i cant play match.

THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND MILES KENNOBBIE
yes!!!!
Yes!!!
Yessirrrrr!!
Evan is a god for tuning 18 snares before a show.
Edit: 16***
Matthew Coleman why do they have 18
Matthew Coleman I thought the techs were supposed to do the tuning
Angus, usually there are two snare drummers assigned to that duty
they're about to get their 18th gold
Matthew Coleman still sounds like shid.
Yo that snare solo at 1:58 is straight fire.
Lil Boy Crispy 0:50 - 0:59 is heat.

Scojo rockin' the 311 hoodie, I love it!
3:11 omg that sticks in was legit perfect
Miles subdividing is hilarious
it was the coolest idea, to march the whole corps on the field to the snare cadence, real marching band type of thing.
I loathe how some people disregard how impressive this line is and just spit out their opinions that go against the line...
yeah I agree, it's about impressive as my sons training wheels on his MONGOOSE bike!1!! HA, bmx aren't even that level
FAT STAX Ok.

The 16 snare cadence sounds a little to similar to Electric Wheelchair.
Not much.
This is realllly early season wow ive never heard that version of the snare features in the beggining
how is it that they cut the rims out of the quads but they still manage to hit them every feature
Evork04 cause what the play is incredibly hard (;
Dalton jewell in my personal opinion, hitting rims is the same as missing notes in the pit. So these guys miss a lot of notes.
There aren't many lines sweeping that fast. I'll take some rims early season with some hard notes vs comfy safe rounds on finals.
John Harvill watch any vanguard line ever. Fast ass scrapes.
Not Guert yes, I didn't say BD was the only one.
I'm a professional TH-cam commentator, and here is my opinion.
Nice

What are they doing at 2:09? A split single stroke roll?
Can you help me understand the sound difference between drumming above grass and concrete. Thank you!
Snare sounds really good
Not sure if it's the audio but I can't hear the bass runs over the snares and tenors so what's the point.
A little shaky at times but they are playing at a much higher level than other drumlines right now. Past couple years i havent liked the writing but i love it this year

evilclownattack late response, but recently, a lot of BD’s books are usually either triplet rolls, double stops, swung notes, awkward stops, and some of it have been reused of the years before. if you pay attention to finals of dreams and nighthawks, and watch metamorph, you can probably hear the resemblances in the books in many parts, example, the snare opening right before the opening impact can match the opening snare book for nighthawks

Pretty good for June. Tenorline is talented

They use a quad carrier and use an attachment on the snare to allow it to be held by the quad carrier, If you watch Mile's quad cam you can see him switching from snare to quads.
What they said
The opener is really good if you consider that half of those snares don’t play snare all the time
Very insightful comment from THEE Ryan Dunklee
