While I am a Washington fan, John Brodie should be mentioned more among the greatest to ever play. When people mention Joe Montana and Steve Young, John Brodie must be mentioned. While I know he could not get your team over those Dallas teams in ‘70 and ‘71, John I think was as tough and smart as any QB ever!
I agree John, yeah, my dad took me to candlestick Park in the early 70s to the “Staubach” nightmare. I was feeling so much pain. I thought it was bleeding. 😅
I was a Niner Nugget in 1971. I sang backup for Tennessee Ernie Ford at halftime and it was shown on TV. I am hoping to find a recording of it. It was Dec 26 at a playoff game at Candlestick Park. Please let me know where I can search because I would love to see us singing Put Your Hand in the Hand.
I remember seeing that Falcons game on TV, my Dad who was a big Niners fan, threw a piece of furniture through the TV screen. He was frustrated because the Niners had lost the championship the year before . I was nine years old, and just didn’t understand and was scared to death. I had to go outside.
In this era, 9er fans were ‘ The Faithful’…fans now have no idea, or concept of where this team has been…Abramowicz beat Jimmy Johnson three times….and no fraternity celebrations in the end zones…
Funny thing about the jerseys: the 49ers must have been using "air conditioned" jerseys early in the season, with just numbers, no TV numbers or sleeve stripes. Later in the season they had their normal jerseys, which probably didn't have holes in them. Last team not to use jerseys with holes was Pittsburgh, in the early 80s.
I love seeing pre-Montana, pre-Walsh, and pre-DeBartolo 49ers highlights…keep uploading them!
Pre BandwagonEmpire.
Thanks for this. The 49ers team I watched as a kid.
Cedrick Hardman was a beast. One of the most underrated pass rushers in the NFL.
Ah, those were the days😅

I hope you found it!
Old school 🏫 football 🏈!
TRUE, GENUINE, HONEST football😇🏈🤌🌟
This team from 70 to 72 gre up listening to lon simmons on radio should have won one sb if not fot dallas.
Very underrated team. John Brodie and Gene Washington should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
@MarvinClay-ck7zj They're going to have a hard time getting in after all these years even Roger Craig can't get in
@michaelleroy9281 Roger Craig should've already been in. Brodie and Washington are in my hall of fame as well as Craig.
He coined "Touchdown 49ers' long before Joe Starkey. Simmons also had the PBP of the wrong way run by Jim Marshall in 1964.
Cool to see pre-natural grass Candlestick Park 😎🏈💯

Worse thing about 1971 was playing on astro turf at Candlestick. Should never had had the natural grass replaced.
