Perfect! I'm new to maintaining a pool a bought last year and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of dead algea at the bottom of the pool. It seemed like everytime I vacuum, although the vacuum us picking up great, when I'm done the pool water is cloudy green. I later found out that the algae dust is so fine that it goes through the filter sand. I was able to vacuum on the waste setting and lo and behold, I finally was able to vacuum algae and keep the water beautiful and clear. The water I used up wasn't even a lot. I hardly noticed the water level drop. I have a 10x18 intex oval pool with an upgraded filter from cartridge to sand. I have one of those 50' blue vinyl I think backwash hoses attached to the backwash/waste outlet. I'm happy with my pool now.
Can y'all help me please, I have a COLEMAN 20*48, I JUST BOUGHT A SAND FILTER, AND I'VE BACK WASHED SEVERAL TIMES, EVEN SEEING SAND COME OUT. I'VE PUT SHOCK AND CHLORINE, ALSO DID YELLOW OUT FIRST, AND THREW IN METAL FREE, LATER PH. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I DON'T KNOW WHICH HOUSES TO BUY WHICH VACUUM AND WHERE TO CONNECT IT SO IT WILL VACUUM OUT ALL THE ALGAE Y'ALL PLEASE HELP THANK YOU
I had the same issue. I rigged up a cool vacuum and it sucks it up very well - I have to get in the pool to do it properly - like vacuuming a carpet - but always noticed the pool would be cloudy afterwards. I thought about rigging up a submersible sump pump that would take the algae out of the pool via garden hose that attaches to the pump. I have yet to figure this one out. But I will try this method in the meantime. It's a bit of a slow process vacuuming it up ( maybe 10 minutes - my pool is 22x12 ) so I will have to refill it back up to proper level. Thanks for the tip.
I just bought the Intex sand filter and it's working well. I have the same vaccum as you but I feel like when I "vacuum" it just stirs it up and makes it cloudy again and it just falls to the bottom. It's so frustrating!
@@jackbloom8859 my intake has 2 hoses to the pool so I just block one off and it basically doubles the suction on the 1 side the vac hose is connected to.
Backwash should do the same. My pump only works in one direction but the filter has a push/pull valve that controls whether the water goes to the filter or out through a different valve to the ground.
This does not make sense to me. I typically use an adapter for the pool vacuum that attaches to the skimmer, however the filter has to be running to produce suction. Hope this helps out.
Wow thanks so much! I have been looking for a answer to the tone of algie that is in the pool. We bought a place , came with a pool and it keeps tripping the breaker from so much algie. Thanks again for your video!! Great advice! 👍
1st question do you recommend using a product that kills Phosphates (Algae food) in addition to vacuuming out the algae? 2nd question when you vacuum the pool in all cases do you set the pump to backwash and bypass the filter?
If the algae is green you should kill it first with some type of a shock. It will turn white when it is dead, then let it sink to the bottom of the pool. This shock works awesome th-cam.com/video/mj52xZ9h2ig/w-d-xo.html
Just upgraded from skimmer to sand filter. I need to clean up alge from bottom of pool. When I vacuum do I leave sand filter on filtering or backwash setting? Also noticed that when I plug the vacuum it sends less water back to the pool. Please advise
Use the waste setting for the fine algea dust that will eventually pass through the filter sand if you use the filter. The waste water bypasses the sand. Don't use the backwash setting for this. The backwash is only to clean the sand on a regular basis.
But if you don't have the little basket on the side of your sand filter. And you have Filter, winter, rinse, backwash And purchased the intex hanging skimmer for my Coleman how do I VACUUM PLEASE HELP Y'ALL
Do you use floc to drop the dead algae? I have a ton of suspended algae. I can think of anyway else to get it down so I can vacuum. It’s like it’s never ending to filter it. I have to give it an acid bath after I hose it off. I don’t have backwash option on my system 2. I wonder if a robot would do the job? Or floc then vac to waste (an option I don’t have but I heard drop the outlet hose in a bucket).
I know they have a plug at the bottom you can remove and water from the filter starts pouring out if u do quick clean comes out faster thats how i remove water after the mansoon seasons
Yes I use floc. let it filter for an hour, cut it off then let it settle over night. Works every time. However I just found out my filter needs a massive backwash bc it keeps reintroducing dead algae settled in sand.
Ivan Yes, pulled the return hose off the pool and put it on the walkway. Super Floc’d the pool, let it drop, then vacuumed to waste. Over Filled the pool before hand so I had enough water for suction.
How do you hook up the vacuum to the filter? I don’t have water that goes into the pool like that. I do have a similar filter tank as you do. Also in my case we have ALOT of algae because it was left untreated too long before I bought the house. I’ve shocked it several times. It’s blue but not clear. How do I scrub the algae from the entire pool? Do you get in the pool even though it’s filthy?
Make sure the valve is on filter and the hose going into the pool for the return it connected to the return outlet on the valve. Hope this helps you out

I shocked the pool but there's dead algae on the bottom of the pool. I've got an Intex automatic vacuum and I've vacuumed it a couple of times but the next morning there's still some algae. I guess the algae is going through the filter and back to the pool since the automatic vacuum hooks up with the return of the pool. Would I need a manual vacuum that hooks up with the one that goes out
@@HomeOwnerRepair it has that setting. But the auto vacuum cleaner is connected to the inlet (where the water goes back in) not the outlet of the pool. So the vacuum wouldn't work if I set it to waste. I've noticed that the manual vacs are connected to the outlet

Ok that makes it really slow to vac. Vac for 10 min then fill pool up the pool again. I tried syphoning it out like another video suggested & it worked really well & I didn’t have to stop & fill up the pool. Your video will be good for quick vacs. Thanks for sharing.
@flippin Trinity you are right it's a pain in the butt to have to refill but using the waste option has stringer suction so you can go faster w/o disturbing the settled junk around the vacuum head once you get comfortable.
