    Hi Jessica! Red snapper are usually a deeper water fish but down around Augusta/Hamelin Bay area they can be found in 10m. The ones I've speared have all been between 10 and 20 meters. They look almost see through underwater, cool looking fish. Great eating too! Keep searching, you'll eventually find one!

    Mate you'd be surprised how hard blues are to get close to sometimes... I felt the same way you do until I moved over here and realised they are one of the most common fish in southern waters. The reef here stretches the whole length of the coast unlike NSW where there are isolated headlands/reefs that can be speared out. There's just too much reef here for that to happen. Thankfully we don't usually have a day slow enough to warrant eating silver drummer! Haha!

    Cheers bud. It is 100% legal to spear them in WA and they are one of the most common fish seen in the southern areas despite this. The thing you need to remember is that unlke NSW, WA has endless amounts of reef and habitat for blues. It would be near impossible to fish them out even if everyone tried.....

    @underseaash I don't agree with you view of them not being fished out but they are abundant. I will shoot greens or small blues but not the big ones

    Meant to ask to, do you use flashers when you go out?

    Have a look on my favorites top right corner for a clip that worked for me on how to get round "issues" ;}

    We shoot them for burley. If you deliberately hit them bad and they fight and make some noise they will often bring out dhu fish from nearby caves.

    Their hard to get close to there because they know their not protected, I pretty much guarantee I can poke every big Blue Grouper I see here.
    I acknowledge your point but the sheer number of people fishing these waters now is rediculous...Sydney pretty much boarders the Central Coast now and when theres good conditions its hard to get to a spero spot first not to mention the pole smokers.
    hahahaha ah well, Id prolly turn em down to if I had the endless other delicous species filmed.

    I dont think I could shoot Blue Grouper just because they so f'ing slow...Its like a massive neon sign with the same mentality of a Morwong. I rekon there would be hardly any if they allowed you to shoot em here.... every weekend warior with a handspear would fill them with pranga holes.
    I dont mind burleying up silver drummer cause they tick all the boxes for the job but have you ever had them in big chunks with southern style batter mix, one big guy will feed the whole crew on a bad day ;) lol
