Great video Mark and great news about the mot but what a pain in the neck it's becoming now!!! Chin up Mark and could it be as simple as an oil pick up filter been blocked but I don't have a clue as I am not a mechanic lol!! Looking forward to seeing the new project and this car will get sorted as you will never let it defeat you!! Stay safe and see you soon on the next one Mark
My thoughts on this would be one of the following - Oil, wiring or computer the reason I'd be expecting these area's is because the fault seems to be affecting both sides as demonstrated by the permanent exhaust side code and the pending inlet side code. The oil viscosity is very important on VVT engines, I'm guessing you'll be doing an oil change at some point so I'd go main dealer for this and rule it out completely. full inspection of the wiring harness would be a free check and looking to see if any power/earth leads are shared or if and connectors are corroded. The advance part of the code you're getting means as the engine rotates faster it increases the oil pressure (due to the pump running faster) this oil pressure is feed to the VVT cambers on the end of the cams rotating them clockwise. yours are over advanced so I'd suggest oil pressure is to high or resistance in the circuit is telling the computer it is.
That engine sounds sweet Mark, I'd remove and test the exhaust side vvt solenoid before you go ahead and drop the sump pan, based on what you've already done I can't see the fault being oil pressure related
oh dear gutted for ya Mark maybe them solenoids or oil pressure sensor keep at it matey good experiance for ya,i would have probably put it back in an auction now but like you say you won't let it beat you, good on ya, best of luck
It could be when the engine was at high revs during mot the cam shaft has advanced to the higher position via the hydraulics in the cam pulleys but hasn't returned to lower position hence the fault Has to be the cam pulley on the exhaust side is faulty
Looking forward to this one Mark!! Will it all be fixed now and sorted out?? We can hope so but will find out when I have watched the video!! Back soon
I had this exact same problem with a 1.6 petrol Ford Focus the same codes same issue everything like a mirror image of my problem turned out to be a bad battery I know it’s sounds daft but it was battery I would say swap battery for one you know 100% is good and try again.
I started repairing Copart cars 2 years ago and my first project was a Hyundai i10 on the strength of another "You-Tuber" loving them. It was a dog and that "bullet proof" 1.2 engine was knackered. Lost money on it. Luckily kept going and still doing them. Wouldn't buy another though. Same engine in your i20.
@@ResurwreckAutosUK Hi buddy. Yes still buying but they are getting worse in my opinion. My Audi TT I have currently, came with a snapped front hub and control arm that I didn't know about but was described as "run and drive"? It only just made it off the transporter before nearly collapsing. The wheel was hanging off! It has a hole in the front aluminium wheel arch from the impact of the control arm snapping that I didn't know about and can't find a welder to fix. Failed the MOT due to this. Haven't even got to the damage I saw in the pics. It's a joke. Mind you, if you are a big player on You Tube, they let you in to view the cars and see what you are buying.......funny that the general public can't go though? Don't know if Synetiq are any better?
@@paulanderton9424 the other TH-camrs are payed by Copart to do videos they sent me a email asking if I would do the same but straight away said no I did find out copart sell fuel to the employees £5 for 15 litres so dodgy can’t trust them
@@ResurwreckAutosUK Tbh that doesn't surprise me at all. I can't understand how they get away with letting them in but have a policy that prohibits the general public? Needs challenging in my opinion, it can't be right. The petrol thing I had heard rumours about a while back. Are you still buying from them?
had the battery one myself on a Toyota vvti also had the corroded /intermittent connection wire more common on the french stuff but im hoping its oil as those solenoid's valves go brittle and sadly the filters in them break up and infiltrate the oilways cleaning the solinoids out has never worked for me i have always had to replace them for genuine ones i agree with the person who said it was brought on by the emission tests rpm on the mot as it was fine before hand something seems to be holding the oil pressure in the vvti valve/sprocket this could be debris it could be wear or it could be a false reading with the non genuine parts or just bad voltage best of luck buddy i know you will plug away at it me ide just give it the wife to drive around in as its got a 12 month ticket
Hi Mark had a Volvo S40 few years back same trouble somebody suggested Seafoam which I did and it improved it but that was before engine management lights got mine off eBay used alot in the USA
Following from other comment. I flushed engine oil cleaned cmp actuators checked engine timing I checked oil pressure I even swapped cmp actuators from a known good car yet it still said exhaust cam over advanced I spoke to ford technical and they said check battery so I did and put new battery on and I cured it but seriously just check it it might not be that but worth a check.
Not Sure but could it be the oilways in the exhaust camshaft that feed the VVT that are partially blocked stopping the oil returning from the advanced position or could the return spring be weak through wear and tear.
Frustrating for you bud but you will beat it .but still a really enjoyable video .I can't work out what the new project is .I'll try and catch up with you next week.
Did you strip those variable cam sprocket things?. I don't like the stuff, but is is worth bunging an engine flush through it, drain a refil with clean oil of the correct grade and spec
Is it only triggering the management light on a start up, when you took it for mot it was fine and then when started up again the light came back on, that sounds to me like the cam position sensor, it’s not a problem when it’s running and not a problem when starting, it sounds like what’s happening is when your turning the engine off and then going to start it again it’s not detecting the cam position properly. The sensors can be a buffer and work sometimes but can go funny with heat or cold
Have you heard the saying, When they are good they are very very good when they are bad they are horrid? i think you have a horrid one lol .That's why it was got rid of in the first place, you have someone else's problem.
You defo need to a dealership tech otherwise your chucking more good money at it even if you have to pay for a dealership scan someone will have an answer it’s doin my head in god and that’s just watching you suffer
I know what you mean am only thinking about your outlay I’ve had probs ( headscratchers ) over the years sometimes you have to bite the bullet like you I will try to sort things myself theres no better feeling when you solve something your self it does no harm to ask for advice every day is a learning day best of luck 👍
Repairing or replacing the wiring to the camshaft oil control valve for bank 1 exhaust camshaft.
Hi Lawrence really I will check wiring 👍👍

You need to flush the solenoids , put them in a jar of petrol or brake cleaner and work them with a power probe

This car is haunting you Mark. Take the bulb out of the engine management 😂😂that will sort out any further issues 👍👍

Thanks for the info buddy that sea foam cleans the oil yes 👍👍
Problem is with the VVT units, Regular fault with BMW's. and Hondas. Don't keep firing the Parts Cannon at it.

Hello Mark, how annoying is that light, with all the engine work done it still comes on😔,fingers crossed it can be solved.
Thanks Steven soooooooo annoying I will get this sorted 👍👍

I would be checking the loom or engine earth's.

If you can send me the p code I can look in to it. As I used to be a Kia master tech and still have friends at the garage 👍🏻
Thanks mate the P0014 code comes up 👍👍
Have you changed the variable valve solenoid
I think Cheaper is to change whole engine of this car.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
it will come o/k im sure
Thanks Frank I hope so 👍👍

Hi Steven I do like sorting out problems gives me experiences 👍👍
Mark could something have been knock about on the accident you must be tailing your brains out you need to speak to dealership mechanic
Thanks Daniel maybe 👍👍
Soul destroying ain’t it 🙄
Thanks Philip yeah definitely 👍👍

🤣🤣thanks Michael but you are looking at this the wrong way if I can sort this and find the problem that experience will help me in the future 👍👍
