Barry Keoghan has a very middle-class Scouse accent in this film, but he is indeed Irish. A movie you should see him in is _The Banshees of Inisherin_ , where he plays a completely different character yet also memorable.

32:32 Their desire to avoid bad publicity for the family, not be in the DailyMail etc. even if the attention could help find the culprit. This is part of why Oliver is able to get away with engineering the deaths. All of them have a halfway credible reason. He even takes his time weakening Elspeth so her death is attributed to bad luck as well. It's also common for one spouse to die not long after the other if it makes them very depressed and weakens their health when it's already stressed by other things.

Emerald Fennel is known for writing/producing/directing movies that create a lot of buzz. The same thing happened in 2020 with her PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, starring Carrie Mulligan (the actress who played Pamela in this movie). It is not disgusting like this movie, however. But it has the same intriguing vibe, one that has you sitting back and trying to process what you've seen over several days. In other words, it is a very good movie and well worth reacting to here if you haven't yet seen it. Unlike SALTBURN it might even provoke from you a "best movie ever" rating. It did me.
I am in love with your reaction.!! You are my kind of friend. Open minded, not shocked easily. I have seen, irreversible, a Serbian story, marthys, climax, and some other more out there movies that I wasn't shock but I did was surprised because I never seen a movie where someone is drinking from the bathtub. Again great video.
This was my favorite of all your videos. I just loved that. I lost you for a bit but I'll bookmark it so I don't forget to look for your videos. I actually haven't seen the film yet but I've watched another person react, you both did so differently but but hilariously. I love that 'doesn't it hurt when it bangs into his thigh?' haha. I love the ghost reference, I loved all the asides. I have not been to university, just commuter college so its all greek to me but it is fascinating isn't it. Anyway thank you so much, this was lots of fun.
I had almost the exact same reaction, almost no reaction to the bath scene, and absolutely horrified by going home and meeting the parents. Great Reaction to a great movie!
34:40 There was the Christmas party he wasn't invited to that apparently motivated him to get in with the popular kids after his first term being rather loner, then the semester and part of the summer.
Rosamund Pike is in _Gone Girl_ and _Pride and Prejudice._ Carey Mulligan is in _Promising Young Woman, An Education, Pride and Prejudice, Far from the Madding Crowd, Mudbound, Never Let Me Go, The Great Gatsby, Maestro,_ and the "Blink" episode of _Doctor Who._ Richard E. Grant is in a bunch of stuff including _Gosford Park_ and _Can You Ever Forgive Me?_
The ground on the grave had just been dug up and put over the coffin plus it was raining, so it would be quite soft and not packed down. Though he did try to pack it down with all that humping, haha. There's a movie called Teorema (1968) by controversial director Pier Paolo Pasolini where a strange visitor played by Terence Stamp seduces all members of a family, both men and women. Saltburn reminded me of it and it's also quite good. Pasolini, a gay director, was murdered and it's still unsolved.
@@LeslieField-k1u Great comparison, I liked that movie as well. It was based on a classic 1932 French movie Boudu Saved From Drowning and has a much more comedic vibe. But yeah, it's an uninhibited man who is taken into a home and changes all the family members he comes into contact with.
You know what I've noticed with men is that they can look weird in just a photo but once you see them move, see how they carry themselves they can go from odd looking to quite attractive. I'm assuming the same works for women, I know it matters a lot how they put themselves forward with confidence tho sometimes you don't have the confidence and you have to go quirky. :-)
"Waiiitt! Is *that* the bathtub scene?" As the penny lands several minutes later. Oh, Dawn, you make me laugh so much. (I have no intention of watching this movie in full, so thank you for the review & reaction. And I'd complement Rosamund Pike, but then she's close to my age... and she's Rosamund f***in' Pike.))
I love that people are still watching this I love this movie. Barry made decisions he said HAD TO BE MADE im not mad at him 😂 but no really they did some amazing work here and I support the crew and the decisions they made it was controversial and thought provoking and people weren’t sure why. It’s about consumption. They were all devouring. This time the middle class man was the one on top. there’s a lot to say about obsession and us being masochists. Needing to see suffering and being drawn to it, being an observer in order to really feel it. Meanwhile a bit of our own suffering is made up and self inflicted. That’s all notes about society. Good ass movie.
I don't think too many people walk past the house because it's fenced in and you have to be let in the gate, I think? Oliver probably gave the servants the day off. Oliver and Farleigh being in cahoots would have been more fun or Farleigh and the butler bringing Oliver down. Weirdly, I saw this in the theatre because my friend wanted to see it, and I knew almost nothing about it.
Saltburn is fictional and only named after a coastal city, but the real life manor where it was filmed is on 200 acres. There is a drone video or two of Drayton House on TH-cam, I think.
Hi I heard your previous comments you don't like car chase films I don't either expect one the duel 1971 film amazing. Also you like the the 3stooges but why no laurel and Hardy????. Love your comment on this film and other chow.
The karaoke song? Pet Shop Boys - Rent No, dick flick doesn't hurt! Now, I have a question. Just what sort of movies have you been watching? 😅 I felt repulsed by Oliver. Even if he was treated as a temporary curiosity by the wealthy, he was despicable. Felix was a good person. Oliver was deeply obsessed and completely envious of him. When rejected by Felix (in the maze) Oliver was physically sick, he knew he wasn't going to worm his way back in, his manipulation no longer worked, so... he had to win at all costs. I think Oliver hated himself and thought he would become more like Felix if he inherited his life. I was surprised that you didn't seem too phased by Oliver's game and motive! Thanks for the video, Dawn 🤘
Wait, I watched the movie in a theatre. He was sick to distract Felix and give Felix time to drink, as he took the bottle back after he was sure Felix took a drink.
I can't accept that there would be no suspicion as people dropped like flies. The butler was suspicious of Oliver from the beginning, and the police would be aware of the local gentry's rapid demise. Finally, they would be aware that this cuckoo had taken over the manor, and worked their way back from that. It stretches credibility too far.
It's clever because it has become very successful by riffing off material that has come before it and it (quite rightly) assumes the majority of its audience has neither seen or is even aware of these great masterpieces. To them this seems so original and outrageous. However to those who have seen "Brideshead Revisited", "The Talented Mr Ripley" and "Kind Hearts And Coronets" amongst others it all feels rather derivative - though I give it top marks for style!
This film is a love it or hate it film. Movie suggestions: 'Before Sunset', 'Casino', 'Hannah and her Sisters', 'Network', and if you're interested in seeing a movie that this film is very, very similar to, 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'.

My initial response to this movie was positive, but once you have a few days to think about it, it's actually wildly inconsistent. If you watch it again and pay attention to all the things Ollie does when he's alone, he seems to arbitrarily go back and forth between a deeply confused, misanthropic kid with a crush, and a stone-cold psychopath whose only mission was Saltburn. You can't really call it a misdirect, because it doesn't track. "I loved him but also hated him" is ridiculous because if he loved him, he wouldn't have killed him, and if he hated him, he wouldn't have banged his grave while crying. I found it more or less engaging, and there were some lovely shot compositions. But a "masterpiece"? Haha. No.
