  • Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana saw significant damage after Hurricane Ida.
The plantation is known for its interpretation of life through the eyes of the formerly enslaved and has grown in popularity. Officials at Whitney said they have seen over 100 thousand visitors so far.
The tour of Whitney Plantation typically leads you down a dirt road to cabins built and once inhabited by the formerly enslaved. Yet, it’s hard to pass Antioch Baptist Church, the last stop as you tour the grounds.

Its truly sad. So much effort put into telling the real truth that most try to erase.

This might be wrong to say, but those cabins look pretty nice. They sure were built strong enough to last this long. I kind of wish the plantation home was blown away, but i am glad so much history is being preserved. I just imagined slave quarters to be made of flimsy wood, with a ton of holes in it. I didnt think they built things very well for themselves because i just assumed they were not given the proper materials to do so. But these are really nice compared to what i imagined they would look like.

they have been rebuilt over the years after rot and storms, portions may have been reused but they are not 100% original
