    Good info,I would have never thought of putting one between the scope and 45 angle eyepiece holder. Cool going to try it.

      I never knew it gave more magnification. I had one that came with my refractor telescope but it was like 6 or 8 inches long so I always just put between the scope and prism because I just assumed that how it was supposed to be.

    People are worried about Barlow lenses reducing photo quality... just take a picture with a slightly longer exposure. Voila! Better images than you could ever get without a Barlow.

    Hello and thanks for the video. I'm from Argentina and try to put on the Barlow lens between the telescope and de 45 mirror for try to get the 3x magnification than the video and with a eyepiece of 25 mm i can't see anything. I try to get focus in everyway as possible but nothing happen. When I take off the eyepiece I can see the planets or even the star but as soon I put on again the eyepiece I'm loosing again the image. I thank any help you can provide me. I'm owner of a Celestron Nexstar 102slt refractor telescope and I'm say sorry if my English is not very fluent I hope you understand me. Thanks a lot and clear skyes.

    Hi. I own a Celestron 100az Inpire Refractor telescope. It really brings tears to my eyes when, with the help of the skyportal app, I could see for my very eyes the astronomical bodies that I once thought I would only see in textbooks. So I opted to buy the Celestron accessory kit that comes with a 2x Barlow. However, upon equipping it between the diagonal and the scope itself (3x), I couldn't seem to get it to focus on an object (it reaches the limit before it focuses). I was focusing on Sirius for that one bit. Any tips on how I can make it to focus better?

    what would the effect be, if combining a Focal Reducer and a Barlow Lense together?

    • @nategraham4027
      @nategraham4027 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their effects would "fight" with one another. For example, a 2x barlow lens plus a 0.5x focal reducer would in principle cancel out completely, giving you the native focal length.

  • @UKMacMan
    @UKMacMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Barlow's are cool, but the explanation here is wrong. Barlow Lens magnify the focal length of the telescope, not the magnification of the eyepiece. So if you Focal length is 400mm with x2 Barlow, then the focal length is now effectively 800mm. Saying that it increases the magnification of the eyepiece is lazy.

      I have just bought a 12" Dob that came with a 10mm and 25mm eyepeices, well great. this video showed me what I've been seeing over and over on you tube, Barlows changes the eyepeices Mag. As you say it's not quite right. the Barlow changes the focal length Regardless of the eyepeice I use and it is what I have came to understand. how this video and others explained it demonstrated what the Effect is on eyepeices. this is what sells the reason why I as a newbie might need one. But as yoda once said to me, much to learn you have! Clear skys..

    hmmm.... why 2x if it's between the eyepiece and the diagonal , and 3 x if it's between the telescope and the diagonal? newbie here...I don't get this. Thank you

    • @CelestronDotCom
      @CelestronDotCom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Its a trick of the lens....Its like projecting an image of the Moon through an eyepiece. The farther you are behind the eyepiece, the larger the image of the Moon appears. Barlows are similar. The farther you are behind them, the larger the image appears, so you get the extra power when you increase the distance between the barlow lens and the eyepiece. In this case, you are putting the diagonal between the barlow lens and the eyepiece so the light has a longer distance to travel while spreading outward and increasing the apparent magnification. The downside of this is that the image is larger, but it is also fainter as the light spreads out.

      Because 4mm gives u extremely high magnification and Celeste on power seeker 114eq is not enough capable to magnify more than 275-280x

    Can someone comment on the following: I got reflector telescope with short focal length of 300mm (mirror diameter is 76mm). The prime mirror is spherical if I use x2 Barlow is it going to reduce the spherical aberrations? I mean if it enlarge the focal length then may be it also reduce the spherical aberrations. My spherical mirror effective focal length will be 600mm instead of 300mm and thus less spherical aberrations?

      The Barlow extends the secondary mirror's focal point. It's like adding a 2X fixed zoom in front of your sensor.
      Your FOV is slightly lost as well; as you likely guessed.
