  • Raking first cut hay with our new Vermeer TR90 (same as a Lely Lotus 300 Combi). In the previous video, we tended hay with this combination rake/tedder and now have it set to rake hay. First time we've used it raking hay. Tractor is our John Deere 5055d.

Thanks for this content. I have a small place that I'm trying to hay and I think this would be a good "budget option" to get a guy started. That seems to be the gist I'm getting from your video. Thanks!

It’s a great rake tedder in one package for a small farm. Thx for watching…👍

We have had the Lely Lotus 300 version of that rake for at least 25 years and we wouldn't want to make hay without it. Our hay cycle is usually 3 to 4 days and the hay goes through the baler on the 3rd or 4th day. Nick, North West Farmer

Keep in mind, it has a 540pto... It's made to run about that, will do a cleaner job when up to speed...
You will get it figured out.
You mentioned alfalfa.... That and clover are the exception.. we have run 1200 engine RPM and sometimes a gear faster in them.. gentler..

If you cut rake and bale around and around.. run the Tedder rake around and around.. if you turn a little early on the corners, it will leave an easy corner to follow with the baler.. if needed, rake the corners when you get done...
Rake in the air is unproductive...
    Just my opinion...
Back and forth has it's place, but is slower....
We run our Tedder rake windrow baskets in the two center holes. Even in 4+ ton per acre grass..

It makes a nice windrow. Do you think in 2nd cut hay it would leave the rows close enough together to go back through and grab two at one time to create a double windrow?

DeHaven Family Farm - that remains to be seen. Typically we don’t have much of a second cut - everything goes dormant, but this year- I think we are going to have a decent 2nd cut. Worse case, we’ll put a second rake in the field with the Vermeer to combine windrows.
