“This is not Conrad Thompson” 😂💀
Already gave it a thumbs up!
😅
Hellz Bells yes!
Thought it was just me lol
The prettiest thing i’ve heard since Led Zeppelin broke up.
Is it possible to fire Conrad like how Flair fired Mark Madden from his podcast, and replaced him with Conrad?
You had me at "This is not Conrad Thompson."
The truth, brother.
$170M a year. Sweet, that should cover Tony’s cost to play The Final Countdown for the year.
Thank god Conrad wasn't on here. Much better show
I wholeheartedly agree.
I felt the same way about Conrad. My opinion changed after he did konnans keeping it 100. Should def give it a listen it will change your perspective on him as well.
Thumbs up for NO Conrad.
Always better without Conrad ☝😉
Aww c’mon now Eric - since no Conrad
@prowrestletimes
Tribalism in wrestling is worse than most sports. Which is crazy as wrestling is a show and sports is real.
You would think having multi wrestling companies were wrestlers can work at would be a positive. Also giving the fans options on wrestling shows to watch.
It's because AEW/WWE fans are so superficial that they won't watch ANYTHING unless it's in a stadium or arena, and airs in prime time on a cable network.
It is sports. That's why people choose their team and crap on the other team.
Yes no Conrad best episode ever already
Ic Eric I don’t see Conrad I STAY 😊
A wet mop would be a better co-host to Eric.
seriously though, I listened to the entire show. It's been a while cuz of Conrad.

Poor guy doesn't know, I guess.
Is everyone forgetting that 30% of the deal goes back to the station?
And that includes PPV's if I remember correctly. Losing $153 mill by merely signing the deal is pretty insane if you ask me.
Imagine your numbers worsening every year and getting rewarded for it
I thought this would be better without Conrad.
I don't care.

@@Oh-ffs Without Conrad this podcast in this form would not exist.
Selling tickets would make a wrestling company profitable. WCW or WWE did not rely only on the television deal for each respective company.
Without tv deals wwe is in the red
No it wouldn't and it didn't for a bunch of reasons that have only become worse
Generating more revenue than you spend makes you profitable; it doesn't matter how.
The money from television dwarfs the money from ticket revenue. WWE sees 80%+ of revenue from media licensing. They broke revenue records during COVID at the time without live event revenues. Tony Khan cited their media licensing as what kept AEW running through COVID. The money has been in media and licensing over tickets for a long time now.
No it really doesn’t, WWE admitted a long time ago that the house show business at best broke even.

Well first things first Tony Kahn is to cut down the roster and bring in a better booker and more rules for the roster
NXT doesn't move to the CW until the 1st.
Every time I listen to Eric, I feel at ease. He has a gift to make people comfortable, which is why I reckon he has been able to broker so many deals throughout his prolific life.
I was thinking the same thing. He never blows his cool and puts out facts and past experiences on the table.

For 3 shows? Jeez...what a huge disapointment if true.
Holy shit I never expected Derek Sabato. Hell of a referee!
Welp Conrad just lost his job
We could ONLY be so lucky 🤣
I think Tony Khan is a smart guy, especially for getting such a huge deal after just a short time in the industry. Eric asked how anyone knows if it will be profitable? I don't think the network would sign such a deal if they didn't have projections and data to base it on. They wouldn't take on AEW if the risk was that they'd go out of business in a year or have to scale back the show due to lack of funds. AEW is still private, so no one knows the profitability other than TK's inner circle. My guess is that they're doing well enough to be able to afford such a long list of wrestlers, some of which WWE isn't willing to pay as much.
No conrad. Hell yeah
So if they continue to lose viewers, they should expect an even bigger increase in rights fees next time? This Zaslav guy ain't too bright.
You realize that every one of their shows is in the top 10 cable ratings every night they are on? They aren’t a success when you measure them to wwe , but they are a success when compared to 90% of other shows ratings wise on cable .
@terryalan4590 So at what point does WBD lose money by overpaying AEW?
@@vincesmith2499 When Warner stops cancelling finished movies for tax write-offs. One bad movie that bombs costs as much as a year for AEW. A AAA video game too. Unless we see the balance book from TK, we just don't know. Will any changes happen to AEW to save money and hire good booking? Only time will tell.
@@vincesmith2499 well like I said , If aew is giving them top 10 rated shows on cable
Every night they’re on , the network is gonna be happy . Now they might offer them less next time , but they’re still gonna offer them
A lot of money , wrestling is cheap to produce and good ratings for a network. Plus wb doesn’t have the nba anymore , so they’re gonna want aew around even more , because live sports , live tv programming is very much wanted and in demand right now for networks and streaming services. In todays world aew is gonna be on some network
Or streaming service as long as they exist , that’s not an issue . The only issue in them surviving as a company is losing money , but making over $500 million the next 3 years will certainly help with that . I don’t see aew going anywhere anytime soon , they’ll make enough money off this tv deal to survive to get another one 3 years from now . Aew is gonna be around another 5 plus years, they’ll be around longer than that if Tony ever decides to cut costs and release 20% of the roster and start booking smaller arenas . Are they ever gonna be on wwe’s level of success? No . But as long as they have a tv deal and a billionaire owner, they’re not going anywhere.
WCW cant sell out 400 seats to Dynamite anywhere across the US.
WCW in its dying days was still able to sell 10,000+ tickets and have 3-4 million viewers
Great job hosting, Derek. Asked some good follow-up questions that took the conversation to some interesting places.
Why is all of this still leaking with no official statement? Is Tony talking before things are finalized?
Peace to everyone
It wont matter if AEW is bringing in $170M per year in television rights if they spend $200M+ per year to produce the content.
$170M should be more than enough to turn a profit on. But u til they get their expenditures under control, they still will continue to lose money.
He could give a shit about losing money. It’s pennies to him.
Exactly
@@michaelbarker3749 I mean in that scenario its all well and good but at the end of the day it's charity to maybe a million people?
I apologize if I misspelled your name wrong Derrick or Derek. Sorry to correct you my friend, but you’re currently not going head to head with the launch of NXT on CW. You have another two weeks on USA network before the debut on October 1. I know it’s nitpicking but being factual and accurate matters.
I'm so glad Eric was able to discuss his opinion without a salty Conrad interjecting every sentence, "AWWW CMON ERIC!"
"The man who's negotiated more television deals than anyone in the professional wrestling space " WHAT????? He didn't even negotiate for Nitro Ted Turner just decided to put it on
You know he’s done a bunch of non wrestling. He’s produced a bunch of different reality tv etc .
Keep this guy on and can Conrad. I watched the whole thing. This has never happened before
Just to pose a think piece here. Terrestrial TV, Networks and Cable, were offered next to nothing new from production companies the last couple of years. Most first run shows are going to streaming as they realise there is more revenue available, and a little more creative freedom. So the networks, who want to fill their schedules, need to look at sports, reruns, and stuff like this. Reunning shows is now more costly after the Hollywood strikes, with everyone from writers, directors, and the guy who provided sandwiches being due residuals. So putting them on has a high cost. Sport is now also being courted by streaming services, as those services provide international exposure at levels terrestrial TV can only dream about. So that leaves the AEW's of the world.
Now my question. With networks desperate to fill schedules, is $170 Million a year really that much?
This isn’t the triumph AEW fanboys will cheer it as. They got renewed pretty much purely because it’s cheap content. If WBD was firming out for production costs, no way they’d have gotten it.
I wouldn't be shocked if we found out TK paid WBD to keep the show on their network. Kinda like infomercials do
It sounds like you are very gullible.
That's what I thought about AEW Marks that thought they were somebody because of the deal
Typical nonsense from an Ohio state fan. Inbred fanbase.
🤣
With non-exclusivity, it is just an advertising slot.
My problem with AEW is no build for these awesome wrestling matches. How many times have you seen interviews on AEW PPVs?
Pretty much why I stopped watching. That and not following up on storylines, or doing a piss poor job of following up on them.
Proves you don’t watch
then you clearly don’t watch because outside of maybe 2 matches the rest of them have storylines. now if they are good or not is up to you but most of the matches this past year and especially All In And All Out have had stories to them.
@@rahway. You missed my point entirely. AEW ppvs are usually 90% matches with very little breaks. It's exhausting my the time main event comes on
@@moedunch1131 @rahway. You missed my point entirely. AEW ppvs are usually 90% matches with very little breaks. It's exhausting my the time main event comes on
One of the recent ppvs someone said they had spent $3-4 million in a week for tv and the ppv. Had a break down of the numbers like how much the talent got, catering, production etc. that’s roughly 160-200+ million a year.
Listening to the comparison of Eric and Tony's road into the business, I'm worried that Tony didn't just buy his way in, but he grew up thinking Meltzer knew the business and is running AEW accordingly.
You are not head to head with the debut of NXT on CW, MR. Co Host. It doesn't debut on CW until Oct 1. Way to lose all credibility from the start
Anyone who doesn't realize that the only reason they got a tv deal is because Daddy's a billionaire..the end..no more no less
No Conrad is good for this convo so it can be sensible.
overall L if nothing was done to expand the audience.
Personal prediction WBD will renew if they get more ownership. The show will be moved to true tv and/or adult swim/cartoon network. Depending on if rampage or collision survive.
You could have a broom as a stand in and it's better than having conrad.
Bischoff DID NOT want Conrad on here to gloat and rub it in his face 😂

Man I haven’t watched AEW in over a year. I can’t believe they are getting anything for that product now
This deal does not exist, just like every other report of a deal that's come out over the last year.
How in TF does a show that loses over 200k people EVERY SINGLE EPISODE get 170 million?!?!?!
They must be doing something right
In terms of "will they become profitable?" This will probably cause Tony to start spending even more if anything. There's also nothing to suggest the ratings or booking will improve based on this deal.
I know this wasn’t Conrad but this dude was trying so hard to be exactly like him. All the way down to the phrases he uses
Look how low the ratings are for rampage and collision under 300k. That's the reality of a new show on trutv less than 300k viewers

Also id love a cooking show with you that sounds fun. Use it as an excuse to go and visit places have fun you deserve it !
How much do they get a year on the current deal?
The original AEW deal was 35 million a year, they restructured it at some point to 40 something million a year whenever that was.
For example, if it was 45 million a year, 170 million a year is a 277% increase.
Let's all pretend like we know what we are talking about and the "ratings, attendance, and TK's inability to book" will bring their demise surely, and swiftly with great haste.
@@jonjones9917they suck so bad 😂
@@jonjones9917 their current deal is much bigger than that. It's close to 70-80M. It is not a 277% deal because they are gonna lose the PPV revenue to WBD.
@@zemm9003 The original deal was extended for 4 years in 2020 for $175 million total. 175 divided by 4 is 43.75
Please show me how you arrived at 70-80M.
@@jonjones9917 Thurston said 70-80M after the introduction of Rampage and Collision. I will take his word for it since he has been right more often than not. That plus the loss of PPV revenue makes the increase 170/(75 + PPV) which is a much smaller number than 2 and if we adjust for inflation it is even worse.
I dont believe this completely. Over half a billion dollars for a company that is losing viewers and fans on a weekly basis? Ok
This sucks no Conrad, he always makes these shows better.
I’m not surprised. It’s cheap content and it’s not like WBD have much Rhee to put in the time slots-for now. But it’s not some Roman triumph either, how much better could they have gotten if they still had the ratings from a couple years ago?
Seems pretty easy to run a wrestling company if you have endless money then, nomatter what; falling ratings, falling attendance, awful show, you cant lose.
AEW and WBD have a huge opportunity to add their shows and PPVs to Max, just like WWE did with Peacock, but no. They'll just stick with crappy cable TV.
First he said the news of them getting a new deal was false and now this
I mean if anyone understands what happens when you stretch the product too thin he does.
27:37 I don’t know what that person is watching, cuz the writing is far from bad or boring. Must be an AEW Stan
WB executives are looney. 😂
Or maybe a few people has been telling some tall tales and lying about the state of Aew
Roman has been out for like 5+ months. Mania season will come before you know it. How is a return too soon?
What part of Pittsburgh did you live in?
It sucks to reward such a terrible show without making major changes to booking and production
I asked this from the beginning if it will cover AEW’s current expenses.
They have 5 years of red ink to pay off first before they can become profitable. It will take 2 to 3 years to pay off all their debts. If there business improves, Tony sees the light and relinquishes booking responsibility to someone who knows how to create wrestling for television and ratings increase then maybe they become profitable.
Wait NXT on CW is in 2 weeks what are you talking about?
What happened to CONrad? Did he get stuck in line at the buffet?
They get lets say 170 for 4 for an entire company..wwe gets 5 billion for a show.. that's crazy.. salute to aew on their big deal though.. more wrestling is always good
More bad wrestling isn’t good
