(or other character you want) Then in the final of the 4 we will show you how to put it all together in a zombie costume. Please comment below with any questions, ideas, your own mask making or DIY experiences etc. in addition for ideas for future Monster Labs. Also, if you like the content please share it, subscribe and comment as this helps us to continue to make more.
Everyone who wants to do mask stick with these videos and watch the other ones from a few years ago. Ed does not steer you wrong used all of his tips from his vidoes and my first latex mask turned out great cant wait to do more all people trying to make mask you can do it if you put your mind to it. Thanks ed and the rest of the team at distortions you guys rock
It’s so cool that you’re making more of these videos. I watched all of the other monster labs and making monsters episodes. You’ve really inspired me to want to make masks of my own.
Yes! I love these videos- so well put together, with such great artistry and skill, and fantastic editing on top of that. Can’t wait for more episodes!
Thank you so much for all that you do and have done for guys like me in this industry. I owe so much of what I do to Ed and Distortions. Love these videos and always learn from them.
I have been a fan of Distortions and everyone there for many years now you guys are brilliant and do some pretty amazing work I am truly digging the monster lab series and just wanted to say thank you for what you do
Watching this brought me back to being a child and watching the show Pappyland. That show got me into drawing and now these videos are getting me into sculpting. I've been a portrait artist for years but lately I've really wanted to get into sculpting busts and making masks and your videos are helping me substantially. Thank you for showing us your process! P.S. the eye pop thing got me as well 😂
Love watching you work and have wanted to see this process from beginning to end for a long time. Thanks for covering it & I can't wait to see the rest of the series!
Thank you Ed (and Distortions!) for the BEST mask making advice/tutorial on TH-cam! You guys are my go to source for monster-making inspiration. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see more!
Thanks Ed for you sharing this knowledge. Wanted to know this stuff when I was a kid and there wasn’t much back in the 80’s except maybe one book I would check out from the library and that didn’t show much. Here I am an older man just amazed at how much is out here now on Internet. I watch your videos religiously trying to take notes and remember the steps. Thank you SO MUCH!🙏🙌❤️ much love to you and the wife for you sharing the craft.
Another great video Ed, glad to see you're still doing these. New sculptors often overlook positioning of features and your explaining of caliper usage was simple and easy to understand.
I used your older videos to learn this stuff and ended up making a mask for a video project. I definitively had problems with the casting side of it, so I look forward to seeing your update!
Liked and subscribed. Really Appreciate you making these videos. Watched most of them and learned a lot. I think I'd like to make masks someday. I already collect them. Looking forward to more of your videos.
These videos are so well edited and produced, and I'm learning so much!! Thank you Ed, and Distortions, you are doing the world an enormous wonder sharing your monster making expertise
I enjoy watching your videos. Love to see more of this from you and from any others that visit your studio. I miss seeing your show "Making Monsters ".
I have been watching you for years - - your website, Making Monster, these TH-cam videos. Met you at Transworld twice. I have enjoyed your journey; from when you first started your business to the present. I always look forward to your content.
Thank you Twisted Ending Productions! All of us at Distortions appreciate hearing that and we love going Transworld in order to meet folks like you and all the haunters. All the best and hope to see you at a future Transworld.
DistortionsUnlimited Hi Ed. I’m a new company. My background is 37 years of military and federal law enforcement service. Loved all things monsters and HALLOWEEN but my calling was to my country. As everything in life, hind sight is always 20/20. Now at 60, I’m starting my third career in the haunted attraction industry. I’ll be attending a 6 months SFX program here in Florida. Your videos and products have inspired me and will allow me to run instead of crawling. Many thanks . E
hi thank you so much for your videos . you helped me learning what no one around could teach me and saved me a lot mistakes. thanks for taking the time i appreciate it so much
Lol. You totally got me with the eye pop. I was expecting it, then i was expecting it again. It wasnt happening so i relaxed, then, pop and i jumped and spilled my drink. Brb as I deal with the pepsi syndrom on my keyboard.
Thanks SO much for uploading it in real time without editing it too much, (meaning I love all your videos because of that), so, yeah I use your videos a lot for inspiration, knowledge and just for the laugh (I literally jumped on the bloody eye bit), I'll keep watching these for sure! and btw this design has your name written all over it, are you sure you didn't teach Jordu everything he knows ? haha ;)
I am just so very thankful for these videos... Ed, you are just so extraordinary at explaining things! I have a question regarding mold release, when using WED clay, do you have to use Krylon gloss paint or can you just make the mold without that step? Will the clay stick significantly if I skip the gloss coat? Thank you so very much again!! I love your videos!
Please hire me. I would make a great part of ur team and I’m amazing at sculpting. I got a award for my ceramic projects I used to do. I could blow ur mind with my creativity. I wish I could show u my work
Thanks for the inspiration man, i swear this year i HAVE TO try this! Any tips for a fellow glasses wearer? I'm legally blind without mine, is it better to get contacts or to make a mask that works with spectacles?
Why not take a photograph of a front view and side view of your face and head at the same distance, then print them large enough such the distance between the eyes is the same as your eyes are. That way you can take measurements vertically and horizontally.
Hey Ed,on your Zombie Kids' Video for the zombie kid props...what was the Music you used during the video ? the Lullaby style music throughout ? I LOVE IT ! Thanks
Well, I'm sure you have seen Tom Cassidy's sculpting tutorial on Monster Lab where he taught scales. He might be interested in giving some fish scale and fish mask tips on a future episode!
I’m new to sculpting/mask making. I have an Ed Head full head armature and also a half head. How do I need to build the nose up to be able to have it rotted off but still keep enough clay? The nose is just too big if I build it up enough to chop it off and not exposing the armature nose. Do I really just need to build the whole face up thicker to account for that? I hope my question makes sense.
It does. I had to give up on the shrunken nose in this video. You could sculpt a normal nose just add a little shrunken look by coming out a little and paint the inside black.
Hello! After you are completely finished with your sculpture you can paint it with Krylon leather brown gloss paint. Let the paint drive completely before putting the plaster on it as you don't want the paint wet or it will stick to the plaster.
We are going to release the mold making episode in a week and you can keep your sculpture covered until then and refer to that video. We also have previous videos on mold making that may be helpful.
DistortionsUnlimited thanks ed and yes ive seen a few and there all helpful i have recently bought a headbust from monster makers and i have some wed based clay also and my hyrdocal plaster should be arriving today cant wait to make something spooky
now how many people want to say something nasty or mean just to have Ed Edmunds come to you house??? thank you so much for the lesson Give my best to Miss Marsha
Scultpting will not be my issue. My biggest drawback is that I have no way to bake a nice foam latex piece and therefore can only do slush or slip latex masks which I hate the final textures of.
It is great to get the measurements but wont it be more accurate or less errors making a mold of your face, either by your self or from a p.a? also going in on the nose etc wont it be less errors if u had a hard mold of your face so u know more limit is by how hard it? u could also have like some ruler type shape or some wood idk on the end of your mold nose to work out the end of the molded nose etc instead of feeling if it is hard or not aka working out what is the addition clay and what is the mold of your face clay, (unless the hard mold of the clay of your face is someone other than hardened clay)

Hopefully part 2 comes in the next couple days, I got a long weekend .. 👍
A full head mask like your ressurection masks would be interesting or how to make a big prop or animatronic
Or a severed head or how you made some of your products or a silicone mask 😷
Really love this video thank you for doing this! Hopefully it won't be long to the next episodes.
great job Adam!!! These are just what we need! Thanks for bringing it back...inspiring a whole new generation of sculptors and artists!
The eye explosion scared the shit out of me wasn't expecting it haha
Same! I wasn't ready 😂
Same man, made me jump!
That is what we do for a living! Ha!
Yeah I screamed! Lol
