    I just saw the comment on aliexpress link you posted. "I was the 65km home and the pedal was a total of 137km, when cycled strong in a climb the ratchet skated and grazed the teeth, the bike was in neutral, lucky for me I took my things a pair of ratchet original DT 18T and made replacement in time, but if you think buy it, Don't count on luck, there are two types of ratchet Chinese ever broke and it will break" i think everyone should see it

    • @crischen7836
      @crischen7836 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's probably the consequence of uncorrect installation. If the red ring is missing(or wrong side),the springs may not provide appropriate pressure to make sure the teeth are properly joined. In most cases they still work,but that may cause severe damage in heavy-duty use.

    Anyone else have the issue with when installing that red spacer it causes the hub not to freewheel when installed on the bike? I found that when I had the red spacer in there it was fine with the wheel un mounted it freewheeled with no issue. Bolted wheel into bike and the hub wouldn't free wheel. If i left the rear through axle just finger tight it was fine. but snugging it down to correct torque it caused the ratchet to lock up. Tried the spacer on the both sides of the just in case and both netted the same result. Had to leave it out. Spins fine and engages fine without the red spacer in now.
    I have a few neighbourhood rides on this same kit and so far so good. trails aren't dry enough yet to get a proper ride in. Ordered two of these kits and have packed the spare ratchet in my riding backpack just incase the teeth decide to strip while out in the middle of no where and or no having to wait for another kit to ship during riding season. still cheaper than the DT kit.

      @@billyrides I honestly can't remember if it was the same brand, Luckily I was only a mile or so from home when it happened. The teeth on both ratchets was virtually gone, so I think the material was too soft to stand up to job. I now realise that it's not worth cutting corners on parts like this, buy the original.

      @@secrashes I also have an original 54T on another bike, so far I cannot feel the difference between the FOVNO 60t and the DT 54T. I have seen failures on the Chi ratchets so can picture what yours looks like with the teeth all mangled.

    Those are crap! I use them for a week in plain roads no problem, but the first day I full send on rock gardens and do wheelies I destroy it.
    Look at those ratchets, the springs are not conic and also have an extra red piece to compensate bad design.
    I get a refund but save your time and buy original dtswiss or at least something similar.

      How can you destroy it. I just have problem understanding. Just because it's not engaging properly. But why? Too much teeth, bad engagement occasionally or what?

      @@eXTreemator More teeth means more prone to problemas DTSWISS know that and explain in their official page. But don't get me wrong the original design of 54 teeth works nice for me! have several months and no problems.
      The ones in the video are just a bad design it does not engage and disengage properly causing premature damage! Stick to original DTSWISS or at least an exact copy of the original design if money is a problem.

      @@JulioJairdeAlba if they match well there shouldn't have been a problem. But again if it failed then either springs were sticking, or the gears weren't straight or lubricant was sticking. Dtswiss or not it's doesn't matter, I just looking it from mechanical view. The design if those are ok although those teeth experiments don't look good. Chinese never do proper testing. Inflating specs even for gears, they don't understand the fuck they are doing and why. Even shimano hubs suck though.

    • @billyrides
      @billyrides  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont reckon it will make a difference, the failure of them happens with a sharp hard effort when the teeth have not been fully engaged. Using oil instead of the supplied grease seems to make them last a lot longer.

      @@billyrides Great video and great follow-up feedback/answers.
      I've had 2 road bike wheels with 240S hubs for almost a decade now. I upgraded only one from 18T to 36T (the max I knew of at that time) a year or so on and liked the sound and effect on engagement too. Today I stumbled upon the larger numbered versions on AliExpress, some great prices. Then I stumbled here and have subscribed now, ta.
      In your video I noticed that with the machined ratchet faces you needed the red (nylon ?) spacer to make up for the recess and return spring tension on the inside and also prevent the outer ratchet engaging with hub splines as you mentioned. I didn't notice any such thing for the outer spring/ratchet face. to make up for the recess there.
      Are the 2 Chinese springs the same heights?
      Could your failure at 900kms be due to a lower or wrong overall spring pressure and therefore allowing the failure?
      I understand that with more teeth the 'thickness' of the grease/oil will influence the amount of teeth face that actually bears the drive loading torque as these are shorter because of this and therefore reliability can change. My guess is that off-road riding will cause more frequent ratchet re-engagement than typical road use will; I hope!
      Which oil have you used and how long has this oil and the 2nd new 60T ratchet traveled now Billy?

    • @billyrides
      @billyrides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidlilja9180 the new ratchet has done about 600km and has had no issues yet. I have not used the red spacer on the new one and the oil I am using is finishline wet lube so it quite thin.
