Same. Madonna was marketed, pushed out there, the sexy Italian lady. Cindy refused to be compared, refused to compete, she just quietly worked and did her thing. She's still working even now, I think Madonna took a bunch of years off, and just in the past little while started touring again.
I love this, I used to watch the video with my grandma, God rest her soul. Cindi was so beautiful inside and out and still is. My husband took my daughter to see her in concert, she loves her too. #Timeless.
I'd recommend all those singles from that first album, never mind the title song from the next album, which I also recommend. I highly, highly suggest All Through The Night. It really shows off her profound emotional quality, her musical beauty, and her unique style - all in one. Also, Girls Just Want To Have Fun is not just a throw away song. 100% worth a deep dive listen, because it truly is a thing of beauty and brilliance, wrapped up in a perfect pop song. I usually only comment on rock songs, but Cyndi is absolutely a real deal, heavy hitting, legend. And thank you for being such an awesome appreciator of music, Sal! It really means the world to artists to have people like you, respecting and loving the art like you do. ❤
He makes the point that being a man he has to drop his barriers to allow himself to be open to hear anything authentically. Basically he can be a man and still alow himself be vulnerable.
Lauper’s music is amazing and stands on its own. During the earlier days of MTV, this video broke the switchboard! The video is flawless as is most of her videos. But this one was my personal favorite.
@@benntura Cyndi won a Grammy for best new artist for this album and many decades letter she won again for the Kinky Boots broadway album. She also won a Tony for Kinky Boots and won and Emmy for her guest starring role in Mad About You.
That's exactly what I said when he was reading her Wikipedia page. LOL And I know that she'll do it! She will absolutely, no doubt be able to write an Oscar winning song someday!😊💖
Thank you for your open reaction. That is a wonderful tribute to this song and CYndi's talent. This song hit me the same way when I first heard long ago when it first came out. As I see in your comments, True Colors by Cyndi will send you overboard again. Tread with care...
Saw her years ago when she did one of CHER’s many “last” concert tours. Cher was all glitz, glamour, dancers, huge sets. Lauper just walked out on the stage. AND SHE KILLED IT. Even wandered out into the audience, climbed up on a chair, damn near fell off, the cowboy standing there caught her. grin. She just continued while holding on to his shoulder. Back on stage, she brought her kids out. Her part of the show was worth a dozen of Chers. I’d got see her again in a heartbeat. Cher? Eh. Been there done that.
Love cyndi! I remember my 6th grade home room teacher had her cassette on his desk! And I asked my mom if she can buy me cyndi cassette. Now as an adult I seen cyndi a handful of times and n concert and can she SING! The guy in the video was her long time be and the lady she hugged goodbye is cyndi mom
The guitar solo is, oh my goodness, pure melancholy and sweetness, I still remember how it used to make my heart burst! Just like tonight, remembering a distant 1984 while tears fall, just like back then.
Back in 1983-84, Cyndi & Madonna both hit the charts at about the same time. I live in the UK and remember seeing Madonna perform "Holiday" followed by Cyndi bopping about with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" one after the other on UK chart TV show "Top of the Pops". While there was no denying Madonna's talent, Cyndi blew me away and I have loved her ever since. Now 70, she is still performing, and I still adore her. You've seen the other titles you need to react to. "True Colours" will have you weeping. It's so beautiful. But I recommend the heavenly fun romp that is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" first x As ever, enjoy xxx
Mr SalvoG. I feel you have such a beautiful soul! Thank you for your honest reaction to one of my favorite songs it was magical to see every nuance in you as the song progressed! Your vulnerability and intelligent comments moved me! I truly thank you sir!
I love Cyndi and she sang those songs just for me I thought when I was younger. I just can't believe there's anyone who hasn't listened to her. It's an amazing group of hits. Love this song. 🌹🥰
She, my late wife and I all share the same birthday, June 22nd. That fact just made our love of her music so much more special. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Money Changes Everything" are examples of her "so unusual" side. Check them out.
I was also 14 back then... Cindy was the breakout artist, a superstar! Your reaction was absolutely justified, we all would have loved to be there too!
She is a national treasure. She can sing, act, and supports causes that many during those times would never have supported. Just wait until you hear She Bop.
This is one of those 'forever songs' that will follow you your whole life. 10 years, 20 years, 30 years from now, this will come on somewhere and take you back, because it is a magic spell to restore your soul, remind you. Sarah McLachlan did a good cover of this a while ago, but no one could do exactly what Cindy does.
Cyndi Lauper is the artist whose music saved me as a child. No exaggeration there. At a very young age where I was isolated and felt like there was no one like me on earth and my peers told me that was true, she was a blazing bright light of gentle but fully unapologetic uniqueness in the world. I thought as kid countless times, "Cyndi is amazing and unlike anyone else in the world and if she can make a place for herself then maybe I can too." Her music and public personna gave me hope that there was a place in the world for unusual people and I held onto that until I reached young adulthood and finally found my tribe in the world. I am so very glad you've found her. She is a powerhouse vocalist, a brilliant songwriter, a one of a kind showperson... I look forward to you exploring her many other sensational songs. She is one of the bright lights in this world making it a better place to live.
I found out I had HIV in the eighties, I have prayed to god that I would live to hear her next album (for over 40 years), and it worked I'm still here. When I met her, I told her. She was so sweet and positive. She related her stories of people beating it.
I have the same experience but with an other artist. I´m writing here because I now what it is like and want to tell you how great it is of you to share this. Artist as role models are so important and I believe have saved a lot of people from feeling lonely and like misfits. When your young and feel like you different from the people aronud you it´s easy to think that there is something wrong with you even though of course it isn´t. Arists can help through music, lyrics and persona. Cyndi is such a good role model with her way of standing up for herself. (My hero is Brian Wilson, not the best role model but the absolute greatest survivor. His music very literally saved me.) All the best! 🌺🌼🌸
One of her best is from the band Blue Angel (pre-solo) which she re-recorded is "I'm Gonna Be Strong" ALSO: her cover of Roy Orbison's "I Drove All Night" is a banger.
Cyndi: Where do we begin. She was marketed as a dizzy bubble-gum park girl. And then she comes out with this genius or word and song. So wise before her time. She is a legend for a reason.
I miss the days of ballads from artists like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Both are able to convey so much emotions through their vocals and it doesn't need to be the bombastic vocals that have become the mainstay. I'd love to see you react to This Used To Be My Playground, Live To Tell, Take A Bow, Crazy For You, You Must Love Me, You'll See, and I'll Remember from Madonna. And Cyndi's True Colors.
Salvo... homeboy (literally, I'm from you area), you've discovered magic. You need to listen to that whole album as part of your music education. She does bops and heart-slayers. Everyone has to know True Colors and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Required. Bring the hanky for True Colors - one of the most perfect songs that exists. They're all great... including one of my personal top 10 songs in life: I Drove All Night. I was thinking exactly what you were here... the comparison of her to Kate Bush as one of the most remarkable female vocalist of al time. She still performs, and is a major figure in the US for her work in supporting LGBTQIAP+ youth.
Wow got ya on the very first bar. Me too, every time. Cyndi broke out accapella over the airline P.A. system & everyone recognized her song immediately. Search Lauper sings in airport.
She is incredible. I was so fortunate to be a teenager in high school during the mid to late 80s. She was a huge part of our school slow dances!! Brings me right back. I hope uou do more of her stuff!
This one brings out the good in my memories. Sitting in front of the TV watching MTV’s videos. Spell bound like never before. Cindy is so beautiful and her voice!
Thanks, Salvo - So creative and clever! She also covered some "classic" jazz/blues tunes.. did a pretty good job of Etta James' "At Last".. super talent!
Everyone loved Madonna but I thought Cyndi had more talent in her little toe than the whole of Madonna. A true artist. ❤❤❤
Not everyone. I couldn't stand her.
Cyndi fan since 40 years :) Whos Madonna? 🤪
Same. Madonna was marketed, pushed out there, the sexy Italian lady. Cindy refused to be compared, refused to compete, she just quietly worked and did her thing. She's still working even now, I think Madonna took a bunch of years off, and just in the past little while started touring again.
You've got to hear "True Colors". You'll never forget her....recognize her voice anywhere.
I said this exact thing when I saw him crying!
@@kathiek4239 😊Omg, I said the same thing to myself when I saw his tears.... he REALLY needs to see/hear "True Colors"!❤
Agreed.
Please react to her _True Colors_
This! She's so well known for her fun songs but True Colors leaves me a weeping mess every time.
True colors!!!! You must react. She was in the amazing collaboration of USA for Africa written by Michael Jackson and Lionol Riche!
I love this, I used to watch the video with my grandma, God rest her soul. Cindi was so beautiful inside and out and still is. My husband took my daughter to see her in concert, she loves her too. #Timeless.
That part where she's reaching out to the apparition of her mom (4:45), and her mom slowly vanishes, it hits me every time in the feels. 😭
Cyndi Lauper is a great singer
Cyndi was always cool 💜
Love all her songs. Time after Time probably my favourite.
I'd recommend all those singles from that first album, never mind the title song from the next album, which I also recommend. I highly, highly suggest All Through The Night. One of my favorite artists and people of all time! Please listen to all of her hits!
I love how you allow yourself to truly enter into a song and feel it. Keep listening to Cyndi she is so cool!
she is insanely talented incredible in concert
Either you're an easy crier or a big softie but if this makes you cry then you don't want to listen to True colors.
That's a beautiful song.
This always makes me teary eyed
Empath. Like me. :D
He makes the point that being a man he has to drop his barriers to allow himself to be open to hear anything authentically. Basically he can be a man and still alow himself be vulnerable.
I cry just thinking about the song. you just feel her music
You only have to see Salvo's reaction to ABBA's Chiquitita, and you know he's a big softie... in the best possible way!
Beautiful song Beautiful lady
Lauper’s music is amazing and stands on its own. During the earlier days of MTV, this video broke the switchboard! The video is flawless as is most of her videos. But this one was my personal favorite.
All she needs is an Oscar to be an EGOT. She's no joke.
I didn’t know she is an EGT!
@@benntura Cyndi won a Grammy for best new artist for this album and many decades letter she won again for the Kinky Boots broadway album. She also won a Tony for Kinky Boots and won and Emmy for her guest starring role in Mad About You.

The mother in the video was actually Cyndi’s real mother , who only died in the last few years
I think you would enjoy her singing this song live on Howard Stern in 1995. It was beautiful. Love your reactions 🥰
This reaction just earned you a subscription. Love how the melody got you instantly... 😅❤
Something in that song touched you deeply!!!
It was so easy to love Cyndi and I have for her entire career 💜🎉🥂

Got to go down her rabbit hole Salvo!!
She Bop, All through the night.. great songs by Cyndi
I saw her in concert just a few years ago for my birthday she is still just as amazing and beautiful ❤
Agree 💯 about the 💃 LOL! Her musical Kinky Boots is one you should check out too. It won the Tony for Best Musical a while back.
OMG... I forgot how much I loved Cyndi Lauper!
If you want to see something really fun, check out her cover of "If I Could Turn Back Time" from the Kennedy Center in 2018, honoring Cher.
This and True Colors get me every time.
"All Through the Night" & "Time After Time" are two of my favorites by Cyndi Lauper.
Ditto

She needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
This was my intro to MTV i early 1984. Fun fact- cable tv wasn't available in Detroit until the late 80s.

TOTALLY agree! Cindi is the BEST!
That lyric “you say go slow, I fall behind” is what gets me.
It says so much in so few words.

Cyndi Lauper is awesome!!❤❤Love her music!!❤❤❤
'I drove all night' is another great song.
Yes! Both hers and Roy Orbison's original version are iconic!
Please do all her songs! I'm 67 and she was so big on MTV. Do I Remember correctly that the people in her videos were her relatives?

Quintessential 80's right here. This is part of the soundtrack of the decade.
***CLASSIC*** She's still awesome!
I was a big Lauper fan in the 80's. True colours is my favourite track
i'm just amazed when non-teens have not heard like some of the most popular songs ever. that's not even my generation but i still know this song.
I had forgotten how much I loved this song, after all these years. Thanks for reminding me. Never saw the video before.
Believe it or not, this lady has one of the best female voices you'll ever hear. Range is unreal.
Yea, the day you discover her true voice... Eyes Open Wide
Yep I wanted to be Cyndi love her. Great choice the woman is a legend.
