My family's history on the Tyne goes back several generations. I have this DVD and each time I watch it, it brings tears to my eyes....both sadness and pride. It's so sad to see how Wallsend and the ship building area has suffered with the loss of the ship building.

In the early 70's I worked in commissioning of ships instruments! I travelled to Japan Mitsubishi , Singapore Sembawang and Jurong yards, Portugal Lisnave and most of the shipyards in Europe and Scandinavia.. Most of these yards had seen good investment. I then went to Swan Hunters and the yards were a mess! Like going back in time! Side launching some of the big tankers was just unreal! Archaic attitude that eventually killed them!

We went to see this on Thursday. It was an emotive production about our lost industrial heritage. Humorous, sad, thought provoking and enjoyable. Thank you.

Generations of my family worked on the river at swans, vickers and Parsons some of them also down the pits in killingworth unfortunately my dad moved down south in the late 70’s for work and met my mother.I am proud of my Geordie roots and heritage it’s a crying shame it’s all gone now
