I moved to ABQ in 2021, and I'm still in shock at how rampant the running of red lights is here. I've never seen anything like it. I even watched a car get T-boned right in front of me at Lomas and San Mateo because someone ran a red light that had been red for a long time, like they weren't even looking. I guess stopping at a red light here is more of a suggestion than a rule. In every other city I lived in, you rarely saw someone run a solid red, and if you did then there was a high chance that a cop would appear and pull them over. But here in ABQ, it's rare to NOT see cars running red lights. It's perfectly common for me to see people run every single red light I come to when I drive anywhere here. I'm not exaggerating. It's insane. I don't know why the city seems to do nothing to enforce this law. People are getting into terrible car accidents every day from this problem, and nothing is done about it.

Seriously! I moved back about 5 months ago and I have to just laugh now at all the running of the red lights, it's almost instinct now to just wait several seconds before stepping on the gas at a green light.

People of Albuquerque are wondering that they were recently ranked the 6th worst drivers in the city for the nation. I do not race the yellow light. So many idiots don't need to be driving vehicles so big. They don't know how to drive them! The use of turn signals here is merely a suggestion. Pedestrians outside of the crosswalk crossing the street illegally don't understand that New Mexico has a Jaywalking law. I live downtown and nights of the "Cruise" people get super stupid!!! Motorcyclists racing at 90+ The Lane splitting curb for the bus on Central and 12th street is a target. at least 5 cars a week get high centered by thinking they can turn into Doghouse from the westbound lane. NOPE!!! People here also do not know that crossing a double yellow is a big NO NO!

I’ve lived in Albuquerque my whole life (40+y). I have had many conversations with many people here about the traffic. I can tell you exactly what the problems are. Everyone has this attitude like “if everyone just drove like I do, there wouldn’t be a problem “. I’ve heard slow drivers literally say “if you are in a hurry, you should have left earlier to get where you want to go “. When in reality it shouldn’t take nearly as long as it does to get anywhere in Abq but slow horrible drivers make it impossible to get anywhere in a decent time. (Sometimes 40 on the freeway!! SL 65!) Half the people drive way too slow, half drive way too fast. The slow drivers MAKE the fast drivers in a way. I’m not taking sides, I’m stating a fact here. Almost every time you see someone going 90 mph on the freeway it’s because they were stuck behind a group of cars going 50 for a long time. They got around them finally and then they go fast to make up lost time. All it takes is one slow in-the way-mf to start a back up on the freeway that will literally last an hour. Oh and another thing, what you don’t see in most of these clips is the fact that they recently cut the length of the yellow lights down to about a third of the normal time. Really think about that for a second. Not only do more and more people run yellow / red lights that way, but people see others running those lights at EVERY intersection, EVERY day, no one gets pulled over, they start to get comfortable with it and then they are running red lights all the time now! And I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a cop pull someone over for running a red light. Cops are afraid to pull people over out here cause there’s so much road rage and people carry weapons now. And everyone hates the cops now days too. I think it has a lot to do with all the videos people post on TH-cam where cops are getting shot at, or put in positions where they have to shoot. Or the ones where smart asses pull this “I know my rights” bs. Cops shouldn’t abuse their power, but people should respect a police officer’s authority too. If not their authority, at least see position the cop is in on a human level and realize they are doing their job. How much do you hate when people make your job impossible??

Damn old people who have the balls to still be on the road like yeah props to you but there's definitely got to be some changes like a age limit of old people that have to take a test and if they fell then there goes their driving rights
God bless old people but I can't stand the ones that put everyone's life in jeopardy because they're too ignorant and arrogant and self-absorbed to the point where they can't understand that they're too old to be on the road

I'm born and raised in Albuquerque and I have to say that this city has the worst traffic flow out of any I have ever experienced. Whether it's I-25, I-40, or Paseo Del Norte the people here collectively have no clue how to drive productively on an uncontrolled freeway. Their 45 MPH freeway merging, driving slow in the fast lane, and slow driving in general dosen't help. As a matter of fact, they do everything slow from parking, right and left turns, and reacting to a green light!

I feel like this is what we should expect with allowing permits for 15 year olds, but you know 100% that most of these reckless drivers are in the 20s-60s. I long for the day when all vehicles are self-driving. That way there won't be human error, which is more frequent that programing error. It's best to have a network of vehicles that could communicate with one another than dealing with weakness drivers and road rage.

Remind me to never drive next time I’m back in ABQ. I used to live in NM (Farmington and Los Alamos) but damn Albuquerque really takes the cake for idiot drivers. And I thought they were bad in Atlanta.
