  • Hollie Davidson and her all female referee team made a little bit of sports and rugby history when they became the first all female team to officiate a men's international match between Portugal and Italy. We went behind the scenes for this historic moment!

      Clive Norling, Peter Fitzgibbon, Jim Fleming, David Burnett and of course Nigel Owens. Clive Norling ignited my interest in refereeing and I really enjoyed his comments, as did the players!

    As long as they meet the required standards to referee their gender should be irrelevant 👍🏻

    Hollie Davidson is an excellent referee. Great to see her officiate 7's and 15's matches, both women and mens games.

    When is Davidson reffing a senior men's 6 Nations match? She is significantly better than the vast majority of current refs.

    Definitely, sometimes the firmest steps are taken with trembling legs.
    Congratulations, referee team! Well done!

    Let's be fair, as long as they can do better than the current wales v south africa matches (carley) then it's all perfectly fine! Will be nice to have more refs available from each country for matches and more competition between them so incompetent refs stop getting the biggest matches

    I understand everything but one thing , why can't men referee men's games and women do women's games?
    I mean is it not apparent that the weight , speed etc ratios are far different for men and women?
    I would not expect a man to understand the intensity of a tackle by a female on a female feels like and for a fair game I would think that women referees are suited more to it.
    But does not the same apply for men's games ?
    I guess that it does not matters as long as the decisions are correct. But at every game we see that just because of the instant replay feature, a tackle was judged as dangerous/foul play and resulted in a yellow or red. Wouldn't appointing females make the dependence on instant replays much more important? .

    • @ocodeskamcdbsm
      @ocodeskamcdbsm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There would be no women's game if you went by that mentality as there aren't enough female ref's to officiate the women's game. No matter the gender, the refs are educated exactly the same so it shouldn't matter what gender they are or how a ref identifies as long as they ref the game within the laws of the sport and get the calls right. No ref, gets every call right in every game no matter if they are male or female hence the need for sideline and TMO. It's a combined effort especially when it comes to foul play. That's the way it should be. It's been mixed for years now and there hasn't been an issue so having an all female team shouldn't be an issue.

    • @statman2079
      @statman2079 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because that is a sexist view, there is no reason that gender needs to affect people refereeing a game and refereeing should be open to everyone which will grow our sport. Gender does not affect their ability to learn about the rules, and officiate a match.
      You talk about feeling the intensity of a tackle, but referees don't know what it feels like to be tackled by an international player trying to land a decisive hit. Do you think in training a referee would ask Itoje to come tackle him ten times so he knows what it feels like? Even if they play themselves the level of difference between amateur and international is massive.
      A dangerous tackle isn't because of the intensity of a tackle, its due to the poor technique and the carding can be affected by what happens to the player. This is why if you look at the laws of the game, intensity isn't mentioned when talking about tackles (only about Xrugby and reducing intensity).
      I really don't understand your last argument at all, refs are watching instant replays because there is something they missed, not because a tackle was harder/weaker than they thought. its usually cause an arm wasn't wrapped, or was higher than thought. Again gender plays no role here and we should be open to growing our game and having it open to all

      Hollie knows what it feels like - she was an under 20 international and on the way to selection for the full national side when an injury ended her playing career.Howver that does not matter - she knows the rules and interprets them correctly for gane she is refereeing.

    Well done Ref's. Great step forward for female official's. It shouldn't matter how anyone identifies, a ref is a ref and being a good ref is what's important. Officiating the game within the laws of the sport. Not alone was this big for rugby, it should also be a big step for all sport
