How to Prevent Your Fish From Dying.

  • The Father Fish method challenges the conventional belief that fish perish solely due to old age, emphasizing instead the role of diseases and environmental stressors. By maintaining a dirted or natural aquarium, this approach fosters a thriving ecosystem . Through the intricate food web within the aquarium, parasites that would otherwise harm fish are efficiently consumed, mitigating the risk of diseases like fish ich. This symbiotic relationship highlights the interconnectedness of aquatic life and underscores the importance of balanced ecosystems in fish keeping. The Father Fish method not only promotes the well-being of individual fish but also fosters a harmonious environment where natural processes aid in maintaining the health and vitality of the aquarium inhabitants, challenging traditional notions and enriching the understanding of fish care practices.

    If we want nature in our aquariums, we must embrace it first. This means knowing that: Nature is not cute. Nature can be cruel (from human point of view). Nature recycles and takes care of itself without our intervention.

    Father Fish I used your heat treatment method for ich and it worked perfectly. I bought two female black mollies from Petco and they brought it in but I didn’t lose a single fish. Picked up a beautiful little male endler from there that had signs of parasites and I minced up garlic and soaked fish food in it and he’s healthy and making babies in my tank now.

    Very interesting. I’ve often wondered the actual aging of fish in the wild related to same species of fish we keep in our glass boxes. Other than predation , pollution, habitat destruction and the like, which certainly shortens their lives. So by replicating nature in our tanks it seems to me we can keep healthier and longer lived fish than the life expectancy we are told by the powers that be for any given species we choose to keep. Food for thought. Thank you for sharing this ff. 😁☮❤🐠🦐🪴

    The glowfish thing reminds me of what happened after the great flood. Humans who could live close to a thousand years are reduced to a population of only eight, and the genealogies that follow show the lifespans getting shorter with every generation until things finally stabilize around where we are now, with 120 years pretty much the ceiling.

    I have trouble with rams too I had worse problems when I tried to keep and breed them the way most people did. I had less problems when I slowed down on water changes added more sand and only did 10% changes every couple of weeks or if I saw more algea so I knew nutrients were a bit high. But I have trouble raising the babies but I am raising up as many out of each clutch as I can in my water in more natural tanks not trays and the weak ones drop off each day till theres about 20 or so that make it, Out of those I will breed more in my water and hopefully toughen them up. Rams are hard, I keep them hot that helps but so many are weak especially imports. Australia does not get good imports.

    Perfect example of fish that have a set lifespan are the annual killifish. In nature , they hatch , mature , spawn , and then the pool dries up with the eggs buried in the substrate. When kept in captivity , they go through the same cycles. They may live a little longer , but rarely beyond a year or so.

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wrong! I have had killies live for 5 years and more until they were taken down by an environmental issue. Talk to killie breeders about this. You will be stunned.

      NOTE: I stated annual killifish , like Cynolebias and Nothobranchius , which rarely live much over a year. The plant spawners like Aphyosemion , Fundulus , and such do live up to 5 years or so. BTW , I am a killifish breeder. Have been for 50 years. Joined the American Killifish Association in January 1973 and have been a member ever since (now a Life Member). In that time , in addition to breeding , I was also a show judge. , served on the Board , and ran the Killifish Award program (breeder award program).

    While the greatest part of this video is pure truth and wisdom there is one tiny flaw in it, therefore I gotta correct it as I can. Every creature is aging, the only difference is the tempo. For example bettas can live maximum 5 years if they have nice genes, otherwise it's most likely 2,5 or 3 years. There's a cold water shark which can live 500 years like its nothing and only become adult at 100. But sooner or later they, get old and die because of that. Now diseases and viruses are different story, they can kill any creature anytime, but that's how nature works, not every creature gets old, they can die sooner of course.

    We have tried the forever aquarium, it’s been good for about 1-2 months now but it’s getting extremely cloudy. Yellowish-green to where we can’t see through the water much at this point. We have a dirt bottom with the supplement package, and sand above. 1” dirt, about 2” sand, and we added some live plants to try and help the algae (if that’s the issue), but it keeps getting worse at this point. One of the fish isn’t doing well today. Should we do a partial water change for the time being until we find out the root cause? Or add a filter instead of only have the sand as the filter? Worried it’s going to cause issues with the other fish! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I put four lemon tetras in my established tank, all died within 3 days. Those fish already in there are fine, Platy, Guppies, Neons, Zebra tetras, all happy.

      Noticed today one platy has red marks, looks like it hit something sharp and hurt itself. Another has gone a bit transparent, see it's ribs.

    HELP, FATHER FISH! In my beautiful community tank, a 20 long, my lovely female beta who greeted me every morning, passed away from ick. I don't see signs of ick on the other fish, corydoras (6) and x-ray tetras (5). All my plants are thriving live plants so I know my options may be limited because of the live plants. Temp is maintained at 80 degrees. I am confused as to how to protect my fish. Could you advise me asap, please I love my fish.

    Father fish I always wonder why people like keeping exported fish brought from other Quantinent or country which may have different conditions where they live and they might be invasive if released in wild which many hobbyist do if they can't take care of the fish somehow. Why don't just keep the native wild fish they are native they have adapted the native conditions and they are preety too. Whats your thought on this.

    Well I am currently having an dropsy issue with my fire tetra and I don’t know why :/

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually it’s with the more inbred fish like fancy goldfish. That’s very interesting.

    • @eveningclicks7767
      @eveningclicks7767 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I have read dropsy is a sign/symptom rather than a disease itself. It seems to be a sign of the kidneys or gills not functioning correctly. Why it happens can be from multiple things. I would read more about dropsy online and how it can come about in fish. Maybe others have had a similar experience with the same species of fish you had.
      Sorry to hear about your circumstances.

    Ok so if fish don't die from ageing, do shrimp die from getting old? Or is it the same thing as for the fish?
    This is VERY interesting I just want to dive deeper in to fish keeping! (No pun intended)

      crustacea reach a stage in which molting becomes problematic and they die from not being capable of shedding.

    I love you, Father Fish, but claiming that fish do not have an "aging gene" and only die due to outside factors is untrue. Even those Coldwater sharks you mention will eventually die as no animal lives forever. Making such an outlandish statement among other things that are true will bolster the arguments of your critics and mislead your listeners

      I watched it, sir. I watch and enjoy all of your videos. To be certain that I didn't misunderstand you, I listened to the portion on fish aging twice. I don't mean to argue either, but if you know something I don't then I'd love to be taught. Do you have a study or some scientific backing on this issue? It is my understanding that a fundamental law of nature is that animals age and die.
