Hi Michele, I am so happy this message resonated with you. It's something I have been thinking a lot about lately. It can be easy to think we aren't getting ahead, but when I step back and look at what we have done in the last 10 years I really see the progress. =)
You can probably remove the shelves using some kind of masonry chisel and then repaint the exposed faces to match the rest! I did some brickwork and used a tool to chop bricks in half easily. It's not a guarantee they will break exactly how you want but I think it would be worth a shot. If it goes wrong you could use mortar or something on top to make them look like the rest.

You might like to look at getting a robot vacuum. My kids bought me one for Christmas because I have had some back issues and was feeling bad that my husband had to do the vacuuming. It is life changing! Our house is way cleaner now as it’s simple to run whenever I want. Also it helps if you keep things off the floor and now I have a good excuse to make people clean up there stuff!
Hey Shannon! I had the exact same fireplace and I decided to paint mine white after looking at lots of white fireplaces, including yours! I hired a mason to remove the two shelves and my family and I love it SO much, it has changed the whole look of our room. It was worth the price that we paid for it, even though it was more than I expected it to be. Maybe Grant could barter some work with a mason because Grant is so skilled himself in his carpentry. Just an idea for you...keep up the good work!

Your yard is really looking beautiful! We just re-did ours too. Took a lot of grass out and used landscape fabric and beautiful river rock in its place! I love it! When I decide to plant anything again it will be in pots where the sprinkler system can water it. I do have raised beds with veggies and a drip system too. It’s been a work in progress for sure! I love your videos because your house reminds me of ours. Ours is a ranch style with only 1100 square feet on first floor and a full finished basement. We’ve been here for over 30 years, raised our kids here. But now as empty nesters we have all the room we need!

I am surprised as an artist you haven’t mentioned the narrow shelves as picture shelves. I’ve seen magazine pictures of old canvas oil paintings leaned on this type , shelves. Our fireplace has the UGLY square heat vents, we do not use the fireplace due to asthma and allergies to smoke, so my plan is to remove the grates and build a light weight open ended square “box”to slip inside the cavity and use the top two vents as shadow boxes😊
What a great idea for your fireplace. I thought about putting art on those small shelves, but every time I do something just looks a little off. Maybe because they are not centered from each other or maybe because we have art on the wall surrounding the fireplace. It's something I am mulling around in my head, probably like 5 years from now I will figure it out haha.

It was funny, you would put something in the basket and when you turned around Levi would pull something out. He is so cute. I loved it when you opened the curtains in the living room and you could see your beautiful backyard. I'm on hold right now decluttering and cleaning. I had food surgery and I'm relying on my husband and son. It's not working out well. At least 6 more weeks.
I too can see the yard lol, I make lots of excuses to go outside 😂. I was watching the daily connoisseur and she mentions the importance of giving yourself time in between all the 101 things we have to do. So taking a break is just that take a break put your feet up and she recommends having tea which is fine by me hot or cold I just go out in the yard and smell the roses. And go back to what you’re doing. Breaks are very important and fall under self care.
The area around the orange tree is nice, I like all the stones. We have to buy stones/rocks in my area, they're sold by the pound. When I lived in mich, many years ago, you could get them free, just go down by rivers or out in the woods.

Yes I think about that too. When I was in my twenties before kids especially it never bothered me to feel as if I was doing nothing lol. I would take naps and exercise and do projects that didn't ever have a purpose and I never felt as if I should be doing something else.
How do you keep electronics stored? I would like to see a video on keeping stereos, record players, cd players, etc. That is the area I need help with. Also the records, tapes, cds dvds, cords and the tv!
I wish I could share this, but we don't have any of those items. We only have one TV and we put in electrical outlet behind it so we don't have to see any of the cords. My kids do have a radio in their room, but we just store that in their closet. =)
