Just to give one clarification/expand on something, I'm more so talking about people who despise a character to the point that there is no constructive criticism actually being made. Rather, its nothing but pure hate and spite. Saying things like "God, fuck Morgana, he is such a hypocrite" is more constructive than "FUCK HIM I HATE HIM HE DESERVED IT FOR BEING A LITTLE BITCH." There's no discussion being made beyond the intense, negative expression.

I don't really hate Morgana but I will say a very minor fix could be during that week he is missing you and one of the other party members goes out and searches for him every single day. You could have had ryuji admitting that he went too far, and I'm just saying for as many different little things they added like going out to play darts with a group or billiards they could have Incorporated more of the party members into the story. That's something I always felt like they missed out on of having multiple characters appear during another social Links story getting them additional friendship points as well. Sort of like when you do the convenience store side job you really only have to do it three times but realistically you could have other characters and party members show up during your shift that would also give them points I wish there was more of that

Honestly I think the scene was just done in a way where it was accidentally really funny when it should have been dramatic or tragic. Something about the dialogue, camera angle, writing, etc. made it really funny
I actually like Morgana, this scene is really funny to me and I think it's because of the scene's unfortunate failure that makes it very jarring and sudden combined with aspects such as odd writing

I guess I kinda get it, but I can't hold the "go to sleep" thing against Morgana. I don't even really see it as part of his canon characterization. Its just the video game telling me I can't do anything else right now, and Morgana happens to be the only other character in the room.

Regarding your first point about missing days and being tired, it's worth noting that people often dislike the portions of the games that make you tired as disembodied concepts, like the entire camping arc in P4. Morgana ends up being a lightning rod.
The not-a-cat bit is great, especially with the "is he a raccoon" riff in Strikers.
Regarding September, I don't know if P5 September or P4 August is the worst month in the series, but both really suck.

He really is. He's sweet, doesn't drag in too much unnecessary plot focus, but you want him around. He's one of my favorite characters in the game in battle as well. Maybe I'd like Morgana more if his social link was us taking him in walks with the other characters lol.
Simply put:
It's easier to say "I hate this character" instead of saying "I hate the abstract concept of the writing of this character and the way it was portrayed".
I always prefered when Joker slaps his bag containg Morgana on a wall. Little shit was mouthing off and desereved at least a little punishment at that moment. The punting scene was never funny. He was absolutly doing the right thing at that moment and did not deserve it.

When a character is well written or beloved, Fans can become obsessively protective of them. Even at the cost of Real Life People.
On the other hand, when a character is poorly written or hated, people can say and create truly *vile* content around the character (AKA the "Ron The Death Eater" Trope).
I'm SO glad you have the common sense to realise these characters are *Fictional,* and that people shouldn't be so hateful and obsessive over them.

I never thought there would be a 10 minute analysis over if kicking a cat is moral or not.
Haru's character never made sense to me. Her father's palace is a Sci-fi world, Haru's element is psychic but her outfit looks like a swashbuckler with a large axe. She should have had some kind of Sci-fi outfit to fit her psychic element.
I gotta disagree with “her design should have been sci fi inspired” because that’s her father’s look who see is actively going against so a more old timely look works better and the axe shows that show that even if she is having troubles she will always push through and if she did have a sci fi design that would be a slap to the face to her whole character during September because she would be falling in line with her father
Besides, their outfits are supposed to represent their will of rebellion or in other words, who they are deep down and confronting society's expectations on them. In Haru's case, her outfit and weapon represent traditional feminine roles that were forced upon her by Okumura.
The only Persona "Mascot" I don't dislike is Koromaru. Mostly because he doesn't talk so he can't suffer from poor tropeish writing and is adorable.
Koromaru isn't the mascot. Aigis is. Koromaru is barely a character whose only notable traits is being a good doggo that is a Hachiko reference. Unless Reload actually delves deep with his story with his master and gives Koro a character arc where his Persona evolves then he's just static and very basic of a party member.

Your sports team's mascot doesn't score them any points, it's there to rile fans into cheering for the team or look cute. AND that is why Koromaru fits way better word mascot than Aegis.
Sure both Morgana and Teddie do more than that, but that isn't because Koromaru doesn't fulfil the role of mascot.
@@wardrobewings8000 A character that acts as ambassador and representative for the product, is extremely iconic and heavily marketed to people for consumption. Fact is Aigis is used to market P3 as the poster girl as she has more merch and is featured in media more than Koromaru.

In terms of throwing a petty bitch fit, making fun of Ryuji with such an untrue statement of saying he's only in the phantom thieves for picking up women, trying to run us over with a car, and putting the mission in unnecessary difficulty? ABSOLUTELY.
Though on a personal note, I just hate seeing any animal abused like that so I'm a bit conflicted. But Morgana was such a petty bitch in chapter 5 and it ruined my enjoyment of the game for that chapter.
I honestly blame Ryuji more than Morgana. He had a really obnoxious ego during the Okumura arc, wanting to use the Phantom Thieves for clout, and was the instigator for Morgana's whole self-doubt arc in the first place. He couldn't even end the arc early and just man up and apologize to Morgana. Honestly it made the laugh whenever he got beat up by the girls at the end of the Shido arc because it was like they were finally sick of his nonsense, which is the Ryuji equivalent of the Morgana wall punt scene.
Mmhm this is what i’ve been saying I love Ryuji’s arc in the game as well but it was very clear to me he was the reason their relationship got so toxic to begin with. If you ntotice Morgans is much more paitent and gentle with everyone else too not just Ann.
They straight up went to Mementos in order to apologize to him and STILL Ryuji ruined it by refusing to apologize. They literally went there to apologize. You can't say he has absolutely no blame on this. (This isn't directed to you, but more to the people you're criticizing)
@@friendbreakfast Oh I agree and that moment is very telling for Ryuji's feelings on Morgana at that point. He never really respected Morgana's knowledge or boundaries and that comment confirmed that on some level he did consider Morgana useless at least before Morgana came back. So yes Ryuji absolutely deserves blame for what happened in this part of the game.
I swear the Western hate for Morgana tends to be pretty damn toxic. Like because of the Western bias for Ryuji as their beloved, people take the cat's harmless snark towards Ryuji way too seriously as "bullying". Like if the cat was truly a bully, he'd have insulted Ryuji for much more severe things that would actually hurt like his broken leg, home like with abusive dad and single mom not raising him right or blame him for the track team getting disbanded and his social pariah status at school. People are tonally blind that Ryuji and Morgana's dynamic is purely just a comedic personality clash where they rub each other the wrong and butt heads way but come together when it counts. It's no different from other bickering duos like Sanji and Zoro from One Piece.
His simping of Ann is so tame. Futaba and Ryuji are bigger perverts than the cat. Morgana at first was attracted to Ann's looks but then he puts Ann on a pedestal for her personality like a white knight which isn't that creepy as it's just him trying to woo her and act like a gentleman he believes he is. However there have been moments where even the cat has snarked at his crush's expense as even Morgana can't defend Ann's monotonous acting or excessive sweet tooth.
The whole Morgana running away arc, people tend to get tunnel vision because of how easily offended they get from his traits and just let that overshadow any redeeming aspects of the character and just dismiss what the cat is going through and the core of his character arc. Cat doesn't look human, has no memories, no identity, no place to belong and no purpose other than getting his memories back. It makes him feel like the odd one out within the group. The only valuable thing he has is his knowledge of the Metaverse and Phantom Thievery. Naturally he'd overcompensate by being conceited about it as that's all he has. So whether he is benched or upstaged by the likes of Futaba it makes him lose the only unique thing he can really offer to the team and the only thing he has to an identity resulting in him feel inadequate.
The Thieves neglect of the cat as well as not taking his problems seriously with dismissive comments and poor attempts of reassurance due to their focus on their popularity, Hawaii and other stuff unintentionally came across as taking Morgana for granted. That combined with Ryuji being on his high horse due to the fame getting to his head, throwing he weigh around in calling the cat "useless" not ONCE contrary to popular belief just escalating things. Calling the cat "useless" hits harder for Morgana just as it did Makoto, the cat yearns to belong. It's no different from Junpei in P3 with his jealousy of the protag and angst of not being anything special.
Their whole argument is misunderstood. Morgana snapped because the Thieves chose to be stagnant which only halted progress down Mementos and tookhis frustration out on Ryuji. Ryuji didn't "finally clap back" because of how he has been treated by the cat throughout their comedic exchanges. Ryuji got pissed because Morgana rightfully called out Ryuji on using Thieves to contemplate or attempt to pick up girls. Ryuji tried to call out the cat on using the PT for his own which got countered. Morgana left not because of a hissy fit from Ryuji, it's frustration and insecurity about his place in the team and left to prove himself. It's just the two of them saying shit they don't mean whilst heated.
It's crazy how much media illiteracy is Western Persona fans have due to bias of Ryuji and hate for the cat.
The bigger picture problem with the Okumura arc is that it had way too many plot events happening at once more than any other arc within the calendar system time frame with not much time to breathe which hurts the pacing.
A solution would to trim the fat from Futaba's arc which had a lot of days which were excessive imo.
Absolutely couldn't agree more, but even as much as I try to convince my friends that they have the wrong idea about my favorite character, they just simply don't wanna hear it and really can't stand the fact that this character they've made out to be the big bad and actively enjoy the suffering of is actually just misunderstood/misinterpreted, KINDA IRONIC GIVEN THE CONTEXT OF THE GAME YEA??? But anyway yeah man keep preachin about the media illiteracy because you are so right my friend, just favortism causing fans to turn a blind eye to what's really goin on with our favorite little guy. Kinda seems like some fans do need things spelled out for them now that I think about it, I remember a few streamers here and there getting to the 3rd semester and not realizing anything was amiss until the game explicitly told them that they should sense something off. I like Morgana enough, but he’s still probably bottom 3 Phantom Thieves for me considering how stellar everyone else’s personalities are and his own…er, “simp”-ish tendencies; either way, definitely super over-hated. His arc (the whole thing. No, it is not exclusively locked to Palace 5) is really central to the story and is actually quite satisfying if you give it the time of day, something which I’ve noticed most people complaining about him are not willing to do in favor of hanging out with digital girlfriends instead.
Yes. This is the answer. While there is surely a sliver of people who genuinely dislike Morgana for his character, I am willing to bet that most of them dislike him for the simple fact that he
a) Keeps you away from your girl
b) Tries to steal one of your girls
c) Consistently ties you back into the lore/central story, which most Persona players simply care about less than the social links/confidants.
I think that some of the criticism towards Sakura are kinda bs. Yeah its true that Sakura was useless at the beginning but thats something that Sakura admitted and tried to do better in part 2 and she has help and save Naruto and anothers lives like saving Naruto from itachi genjustu, saving Kankuro, defeating Sasori, saving Naruto again when he went Kyuubi, healing Might Guy who helped Saved Naruto from Obito, help save lives from the white Zetsu, save Naruto again by keeping his heart alive, helping to defeat Kaguya and help save Sarada. So this argument that Sakura is useless doesn't work with me. One of your point is that Sakura is too reliant on Naruto and Sasuke but isnt that the point? Naruto and Sasuke get help all the time and its one of Naruto character Arc so why isnt all of a sudden bad when Sakura does it? And on the issue of Sakura tricking Naruto, she wasn't doing it out of malice and she does care for him and Naruto did call her out on it and she did regret it. Also its a bit of a double standard to me that people are more virolic towards Itachi who purposely traumatized Sasuke for no real reason since Itachi had other options and when his plan for Sasuke backfire and he knew it would backfire, he then planned to brainwash Sasuke and was gonna use Naruto to do it and yet Sasuke still thought he was great. On the issue of Sakura getting power ups out of nowhere, i kinda want to compare with Nezuko from Demon Slayer mostly because without eating anyone and just sleeping with literally zero training, she was stronger than Daki, a high ranking demon and had an incredible regenerate ability and later on was able to walk in the sunlight despite being a demon and it is never explain why in the manga, some theories believe it because she is from the sun clan, meaning its genetic. Also this has been a major double standed in the Naruto community where if your a character that doesn't one shot a bad guy, then your deem useless but if you do one shot a bad guy then you criticised for not actually earning it and its possible that Sakura has been training to catch up with Naruto and Sasuke. And lastly and people might hate for saying this but while Kishi doesnt know how to write women, at least he didnt fridge women like what happen to both Nobara and Power and didn't make them it into Nezuko, a mute, baby child who spends most the manga in a box, while having a cover on and have been hypnotized to be obedient.

I feel like hate for Morgana or any character is typically just "I think this character is written poorly" but that doesn't have the same ring as "This character sucks" or "I don't like this character", the latter two being more direct ways to communicate what you feel while hoping others understand what you mean, though i do see occasional people hating on characters for the same reasons they'd dislike a person IRL as if the character is real and that's.. wack as hell, though with persona 5 that happens more with akechi than morgana. Anyway i think morgana was due a fucking something at least for being 1. an ass to ryuji and 2. starting to bitch and moan at everyone when he realized he was being replaced as the navigator. idk if being punted against a wall was it, especially given that in the specific context of the scene he was doing a literally good thing, but i can't say i felt too bad seeing a bad thing coming his way after he did some cringe things himself.
I'll definitely accept that my personal bias leads me to disliking Morgana (don't hate him though). I had an abusive relationship with someone who constantly would make demeaning jabs at me because they were incredibly insecure about themselves.
He's got a genuinely good arc, but i do not have time for abusive people like that in my life. I definitely find it funny that the dumbass gets punted, but it isnt deserved. I don't think people like that EVER deserve active abuse, but Morgana is a bunch of pixels with no feelings so im fine laughing about it in this case.

The entire time during kamoshida’s arc ryuji was being super aggressive towards morgana and kept insulting him when all morgana did is try to help him and joker so unlike yosuke who keeps bullying kanji because he thinks he’s weird i think ryuji actually deserves the bullying he gets from morgana lol
When people obsessively hate a fictional character, I wager that they have some unresolved personal issue that they unconsciously associate with that fictional character. This may actually be a bad experience with someone with similar traits as that fictional character. However at the end of the day a fictional character is not real and people should not project that hatred on people who just like said fictional character.
I love Morgana and I don’t think his arc is poorly written at all infact it’s very well built up especially after you get Futaba. People just for some reason didn’t see the signs of what was actually going on with him, that fight is so much more than “ Morgana can’t take what he dishes out” I can’t tell you how much I hate that generic complaint.
As for Haru it’s always been obvious to me that she wad added late into development, you see literally everyone else who joins your party way early into the game rven
Akechi who joins after her. Haru though doesn’t show up until the fireworks festival,
I think what happened is that the writers ended up mixing Morgana’s arc with Haru’s because of how late they thought of her. And in my opinion I think it works very well, I love everything about thd Okumura arc. Except for the boss fight at the end, and no Morgana absolutely didn’t deserve to have his back slammed into a wall.
You might want to watch a Castle Superbeast clip by the title of "Sakura & The Uchiha Dick Whiff" for a full breakdown, but to get to the point: there's no functional difference between "this character sucks" and "the authors did a bad job writing this character". Furthermore, putting it on the author discourages conversation about why people dislike a character and how the character could've been written better.
As for Morgana.....the more annoying the character is to the audience, the happier the audience is to see them suffer. Whether or not they "deserved" it never enters the equation. I don't even play Persona games but the sheer level of obnoxiousness radiating from Morgana in memes, fanart, clips and wiki pages makes me want to punt him into heavy traffic.
Oh no I totally understand why we need to talk about why a character sucks. I'm more so talking about how people can go overboard with said hate that it kinda goes beyond any productive discussion and ends up losing the plot.

honestly .. since persona 3 was my first ever game in the persona spin off.. the one thing that instantly captured my attention...
was NEITHER the mutt, nor aegis ... it was Thanatos.. the level 80 / 90 persona that comes out of Orpheus .. i thought he was the game's mascot / goal to reach .. or maybe it was Minato.. the main character.... for me Korumaru the mutt.. was merely a party "fill in" i hate mutts.... and it was nothing more than a side character to use when you wanted a change.

I personally don't hate this scene, but I don't find it as a big deal as the folks who hate Morgana, in part that Morgana learns he needs his team, which shows in the palace and during that scene
When We see Morgana in the palace, we get the implications that he got his butt kicked heavily, and would be the end of him without haru, When haru is getting harassed, Mona does attempt to protect haru, but he gets well, kicked to a wall.
Morgana gets a taste that he can't always do everything himself, him getting kicked at the wall and Haru telling him to stop hiding his true feelings, Morgana realized he needs Joker, ann, Ryuji, everyone
Yes, Morgana was annoying, but he is a respectful character [even if his obsession of Ann does get a bit creepy, although not too much, and his constant comments on ryuji does get very annoying to the point I wanted to tell him to shut up], but to me, this scene is part of his character growth, he needs his friends, his teammates, which I like, it makes him grow past his obsessions

I think Morgana as a Character is okay, i do think he is a bad team member tho, i rather use Makoto for healing skills. His tamper tantrum is a annoying arc in my opinion, but i also dont like the whole okumura Arc that much in general. But, i appreciate the scene where he is getting kicked against the wall because this is a sort of turning point, where Morganas Character gets better.
I never thought about Morgana got kicked to the wall is him got his Karma... Sure i dislike Morgana(Not as much as the obvious Teddie) but those who love that kicking scene are truly horrible person IMO. I mean sure Morgana is infuriating especially because he constantly mocking Ryuji, but him got kicked is not something he deserves. Also after that Ryuji got mad at that douche of a fiance for what he did to his "Friend", not "Friends". This, directed to Morgana. He hasn't yet considered Haru as his friend because he just know her, but not Morgana. I commend Ryuji for this kind of action

The doesn't exist tangent was weird and pointless really. Am I not allowed to dislike or criticize a character just because they were written? Do their nonexistent feelings need to be protected? Disliking a character in this way is obviously a failure in writing, it's understood innately. It was clearly a character not meant to be despised. Nor was it a character meant to be despised but was frustratingly easy to deal with in universe and yet they didn't. When I say "I don't like Morgana" or "I hate that SMT V Canon of Creation is a crappy Undertale with bloated hours and puzzle superbosses"; I dont blame the nonexistent character or story. (Though Creation is nonexistent in-game as well but I digress.) Obviously I don't mean it in that they're real. I don't hate Morgana the same way I'd hate a person. I hate him as a failing of execution as a character to the point it came across almost like a character assassination in the Okumura stuff. And I did see the pinned comment. I can't say I have seen or heard a single person unironically hate Morgana that way. Plus one could consider "being a little bitch" criticism innately. Inversely, one can argue merely calling him a hypocrite without elaborating in some way to be non-constructive hate. It's really no so easy to just box responses of hating a character that way.

Idk man, regardless if someone likes or hates Morgana, if I met someone that genuinely found this scene to be funny then I would think they're a weirdo with a strange sense of humor. The scene isn't even animated in an over the top goofy way to be funny.
Honestly. I generally found Morgana annoying, but that moment was still genuinely upsetting for me because you know, he's a cat and that dude didn't have to kick him like that.

After experiencing RL harassment from an individual who thought they were my ‘knight in shining armor’ I can’t help but dislike Morgana. His incel traits of watching out for the “love of his life” “Lady Anne” is creepy as fuck. Which is unfortunate because the rest of his character is alright.
I kinda got why Morgana got hated, but I underestimated just how much there was; I always tended to be in the circles who hate Akechi or Makoto. But yeah, you did a good job with this video and I agree with the points made.
And honestly, I tend to dislike Teddie more. Not to extreme levels, as he has good points, but him simping on every girl besides Nanako got very tiring.

He might not have deserved it in the context the scene happened in, but I still think you just completely miss why people hate him and felt it’s deserved. He’s constantly terrible to Ryuji, lashed out at the others and stormed off like a child over his own insecurities, nearly got Haru killed by dragging her into the okumura palace and having her act against the phantom thieves, and his ogling of Ann is a lot more of a problem than you acknowledge, because objectification of women is bad even if it’s worse in other media. This entire video is a bad take, and people hating a fictional character is emblematic of society’s rejection of the character traits that make him awful, and the way you miss that is utterly staggering.
1. I completely understand why people hate him. As I said in the video, I'm going to be going in depth on what I despise this entire arc in a bigger video on it later. This wasn't the place for me to act as judge, jury, and executioner for Morgana's character because its not actually about that.
2. Its not that I didn't acknowledge how bad Morgana's crush on Ann is, it's that I genuinely think its completely overblown how bad he is about it.

I have to disagree. He is written to be a heroic gentleman. He never says anything sexual or speaks about her body, just how he admires her kindness while being beautiful. Plus the fact that Ann never seemed creeped out herself, I only saw it as running joke that everyone just kinda goes one with regular conversation afterwards.
Morgana is just a simp. All he does is try to get Ann's attention and fond over her, that's all. Teddie, however, is far worse. Hes straight up a pervert and actually sexually harrasses the female party members

@@farhanahmed1175 Honestly I think creepiness is just a Persona problem at this point. I think Morgana stands out more than Ryuji though due to Morgana's character having much less depth than the others. Ryuji's creepy moments are only like 5% of his character versus Morgana's like 65%. Being creepy to Ann is literally one of Morgana's defining character traits and is one of the first things people think of about the character next to making the player go to bed lol

If you ask me if Morgana deserved to be punked, to me it's a No & Yes.
No, not because he's doing something to protect Haru but Yes because all of Morgana's Decisions & Actions led to this Scenario.
If Morgana did't go through such Tantrums, Haru wouldn't have beem poorly recruited in the Phanthom Thieves & would have been able to summon her Persona properly.
Also Haru wouldn't be in this Scenario where she is "Trouble" with her Ex, if she wasn't an Early recuited Phantom Thief in courtesy of Morgana. Becuase of her Early Recruitment & her actively particpating with Morgana in Palace & Mementos Explorations, her Agenda & Actions with her Father & her Ex becomes kind of sus...
Also, in the Early Stages of the Okumura Arc Morgana is putting Haru in Danger for the Fact at the Time, she didn't know how to summon her Persona properly nor does Morgana know what's hindering her to do so...
So yeah, while I agree with Morgana trying be a Hero to protect Haru from her Ex, I also see this Scene as way he derseved it as kind of Punishment for his Actions...
No one ever acknowledges how Ryuji went out of his way to be cruel to Morgana as well. He chooses to call Morgana useless while they're in Mementos specifically to try making things up to him and Haru. The entire arc is badly written and Idk why Persona fans are so bad at recognizing the nuance that exists within almost all human relationships

The problem with Morgana is that he exists in the game & ruins my real-world enjoyment of the game. I get that Morgana, as a garbage character, is the writer's inability to come up with a better solution to the navigator character. And I think Futaba could've been that, much earlier in the game & have her rank up automatically, same as Morgana. And I feel Shiho was a missed opportunity, but whatever. Morgana sucks.
Shiho was a missed opportunity for sure. But Morgana's character was very realistically written and I just feel a lot of western persona male fans don't really understand that. Ryuji was easily the dumbest character in the entire team. Him not realizing he targeted Morgana's insecurities while he's going through a crisis made me lose respect for him tbh. Morgana did tease him occasionally sure but he never directed Ryuji's insecurities by commenting on his parents or his broken leg. Ryuji was better in battle sure, but Morgana wasn't by any means useless.
@farhanahmed1175 I don't like Ryuji either, but I like him better than Morgana. I get Morgana has some insecurities, but I feel Morgana is also selfish & arrogant. During the Okumura boss fight, that was Haru's moment, not Morgana's. Again, I don't like Ryuji, but if Ryuji is a -9.5 rank for me, Morgana is a -10. Easily my least favorite characters. Outside of early game, Morgana really is useless. Futaba is a better navigator, Makoto is a better tactician/co-leader & I can manage healing without Morgana.
Honestly if given the option I'd punt Morgan for just for telling me to "go to bed".
