Thank you for making this video. I live in japan and it is extremely humid here. I noticed that my opal necklace sometimes changes colors and was wondering why it did that. Turns out opals can also absorb moisture from the air 😱

From Canada omg man I almost freaked out . Thank you for your video. I just bought opal ring and soaked it with salt and water and it became translucent colour. Its Ethiopian opal .

My mother in law told me to put oil on my stone(engagement ring) because otherwise it would dry and crack. What do you recommend to keep the stone hydrated without contaminating the stone?

So how do you tell if it's a hydrophane opal? Why are some Ethiopian opals hydrophane, but not all, and do you have to soak it in water to tell?

I recently broke one of three white opals setted in a ring by accident.
It was in pieces. I glued them whole using an acrylic nail resin type glue which i hardened with UV light. Client loved it so much he asked of i could do the other two opals too...barbaric, i know;)

It wasn't helpful. People are looking for ways to stop the opal from absorbing water... Everyone keeps showing how it absorbs water...we know how and why... No one has any information on stopping it... That it absorbs so easy it seems it would be easy to stabilize and stop it from going completely clear and risking it from cracking while or when it dries
