Jay Durias, main vocal of South Border performed Mapa with SB19 at their Homecoming Concert. Rainbow is such a classic! Khel’s cover did not disappoint ❤❤❤ Thanks Hurraira ❤❤❤ Lots Filipino artists do original full English songs.
South Border has earned their place in Philippine music. They will always be remembered for several hit songs that have become all-time favorites of many Filipinos. Rainbow and Kahit Kailan are my top 2 from this band. Michael and the rest of the artists on this cover did the song justice.
I love that you watched the original. Most reactors don't take the time to listen to the original. South Border is one of my favorite opm bands. Kahit Kailan is another classic.❤
Jay Durias is actually one of the producers of SB19's WHAT? and MAPA, along w/ Mr. Simon Servida and the NASE brothers. Jay and SB19 also had a surprise performance at the WYAT homecoming concert last December 2022.
English is our second language so yes, it is normal to have English OPM songs every now and then. Also, Jay Durias may sound familiar because he co-produced "Mapa" of SB19.
Hi Miss Hurraira - yes we have hundreds of songs that's all in English. Back in the days, our university professor taught us a principle that lowkey Filipino style is when you start talking/singing in English u need to finish it in English. If u start singing talking in Tagalog, u need to finish the entire song in Tagalog. Mix dialects has just been normalized lately. But bottomline is yes there are hundreds of Original Pinoy Music that's sang in English. I can recommend u some, these songs are gold and my Korean students before even loved and downloaded a copy of these songs bec they love OPM too: 1. Before I Let You Go by The Freestyle 2. Forevemore - Side A 3. With A Smile - Eraserheads 4. Your Song - Parokya ni Edgar 5. Beautiful Girl - Jose Marie Chan
South Border is one of my fav artists on that era. Nice to see them. ❤ While Michael Pangilinan, later years when he interpret a song at Himig Handog. Since then, I'm a fan . Then, BuDaKhel is on the rise of music scene. Wow. Very wow, Hurraira. Thanks for digging deep of our Philippine music industry known as Original Filipino Music or OPM. So cool. Love it. ❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thanks, Hurraira!!! ❤
That my dear, is an old filipino classic rnb song.. which has been covered numerous times, and still a favorite of most filipinos who are into RNB music.
Thanks for a superb and unique take here, Hurraira! Why? Because you took pains to look up the original version, and no other "reactor" has done that! (Which isn't too shabby in itself!) Yet, Khel & company made something else so memorable, so danceable, and so "sing-along-able" of this lovely tune. Female vocalist is Rosarely ''Rhyssi"' Avila; falsetto singer is Ralph Padiernos. Being out of the Philippines for many decades now, I myself had not known of South Border band, but this was an excellent all around tune. Thanks for doing justice to both the original AND cover versions of this wonderful song! And giving due praise to Filipino singers and musicians. Many of the young ones seem to like the "real" songs with *heart* of the '90s, unlike the overproduced techno-pop and dance tunes today.
Songs of the 2000-2010's are the best! OPM during this time is also at its peak. Yes, we do have a lot of full English songs esp back then - you can listen to Kyla. MYMP, and yes more of South Border songs! ❤
The late 90s and 2000s was the Band Era of OPM and there are many more from that era that hit it big and still continue to influence the music scene to this day. Yes you’re right about SB19 and Jay Durias. You saw him in What? The Making Film when they were recording in his studio and he was a special guest at WYAT Homecoming as he played the piano track and co-produced MAPA then sang it live with the boys. Khel is phenomenal. He’s done a duet with Ryssi as well , will include it here. - it’s Nadarang by Shanti Dope, who’s another OPM artist worth checking out too.
remember that guy playing the piano during MAPA at SB19's WYAT homecoming concert? that's the south border guy jay durias, he's one of the producers of MAPA :)
Filipinos loved their ballads. As much as we want to have a classic OPM dance tracks, we are sucker for slow song; slow-jammed songs that we can sing in the karaoke. That’s why artists here mostly release slow/ballad songs, or what we popularly called “hugot-songs” (heart-emotional songs) that’s why artists like SB19, Ben&Ben, Zack Tabudlo, Arthur Nery, Adie and many more includes ballads to their catalogue. Before i thought the Philippines were so left behind in terms of musical advancement compared to the other neighboring countries but little by little i learn to appreciate OPM even more. Or maybe it’s just me - who prefer ballads rather than fast songs; or because im that old 😂 (im 43 btw). I think the country can offer a lot to the world when it comes to singing but I think what’s lacking is the well video’d performances. Because let’s face it, the that’s the only edge of other nationalities. When you search a song from other well established artists from other countries, the video and audio quality was top tier, it’s so entertaining to watch whereas here in PH] we are so lucky to have a fancam of one of the performances. I don’t know if I explained it accurately, I’m sorry 😅.
But of course it’s only a matter of time, we are getting there. With everything that’s happening now on the PPop scene, some artists are setting standard now [like what the amazing SB19 is currently doing] so i will be waiting for it to happen.
Older people in the Phils are more to english- songs, movies, actors that's why so many old songs in full english.. nowadays they mix it english plus tagalog.. Also before, Filipinos are not fond of watching music videos.. not many popular and timeless songs don't have MVs and look at the quality, low budgeted.. we prefer to go to gigs and sing with the artists, live performance anywhere or wait for the TV appearances. Pure talent than visual.. it's just now that the MVs have boomed bec of so much production kpop gives us and social media(netizens) demands MV of every song artists release.. Ryssi Avila is a good good singer, you should watch her also.. thanks for this RV again..
I normally do not hold much appreciation for most people who do these reviews but I love how you reacted and analyzed how every nuance you captured in this performance was described as magical and as relayed to us, the audience.
Grateful for this reaction. Been awhile since I watched the original Rainbow MTV by South Border. For upbeat Khel covers, you could check out what he did with Dua Lipa's "New Rules" from his channel and his cover of "Rude" that was taken down from Wish Bus but still around in YT. If I remember right, and Morisette were among the first Wish Bus guests who did a lot of covers during Wish Bus first years. Unfortunately, most of Khel's early work (Lay Me Down - a personal favorite, One Last Cry, Rude, Because of You - pretty rough but he made it work, I'll Make Love to You, and others) were taken down when they reaped a lot of views (I personally think their covers usually sounded better than the original versions) and for copyright reasons apparently. The cover notoriously taken down multiple times even when re-uploaded by a fan was Morisette's "Rise Up". That is miles better than the original. All these were re-uploaded by their fans somewhere in YT though albeit now with less views.
I super love SOUTHBORDER! im a fan since they first started. Hope youll react to more Jay durias and Southborder, and i believe they already celebrated anniversary with a concert
This is what like reacting to both original and a cover version.thank you Hurairra for putting this in one video. Good content. I love it. keep going....
Well, i am here again, not because of bigbang or YG artists but this. This song takes me back exactly when i was 5 yrs old 😂 thank you for this one hurraira! Be safe💛💛
Another South Border classic Love of My Life is also in english. Before Mahalima, I'm a South Border, Rivermaya, Side A, Up Dharma Down and Freestyle band fan. They all have english songs. Btw, Khel (Michael) also covered a Brian McKnight song One Last Cry on Wish Bus. That guy's born to sing RNB.
Hi huraira! Thank you for reacting to Filipino artist Can i recommend Freestyle’s Before I let you go? The original and the Wish bus performance Hope you like it Thank you very much
Beautiful performance and arrangement. Some people were born to sing and others to do commentary. Many reactors have nothing of substance to offer, but you have a great talent for commentary/analysis and a very pleasant style about you. (I've seen your Morissette reactions too.) You are a lovely lady and have one of the best speaking voices I've ever heard.
You're right, local talents of the Philippines are just amazing. Most prominent these days will include names like Katrina Velarde, Morisette, Jona, Klarisse, Moira, Janine Berdin, Daryl Ong, Khel Pangilinan and many more young talents. Now, if you truly want to understand the abundance of Filipino talent, it may interest you to go back through the years to be introduced to highly talented Filipino artists' who greatly influenced and inspired today's aspiring talents. To name a few veteran artiste's will most certainly include the acknowledged Queen Ms. Regine Velasquez, internationally acclaimed Ms. Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, Lan! Misalucha, Kuh Ledesma, Jaya, and again, many more! It's a rabbit hole indeed, but maybe, you just might have a better appreciation of the Filipino talent, and maybe, it might help you grow your channel.
Since the 1960’s, OPM (Original Pilipino Music) has always been about full songs in Filipino (Tagalog, Cebuano-Ken’s mother tongue, etc.), full songs in English and Taglish (mix of Tagalog and English). Hold on, Hurraira 🙂 I will compile a short list for you of OPM greats in full English
Ola Miss Jamal, The female Singer's name is Ryssi Avila. Her first name is pronounced "ree●see." Her last name is pronounced "ah●vee●lah." You reacted to the Jay Durias SB19 performance of MaPa at their home coming concert 😊 I missed the band era having grown up outside of the PH so I discovered them late but Rainbow is some kind of special truly.
Sadly, Covid took Teban Aquino the keyboard player in Aug. 2021 , who left a young wife named Love. Ballads and the soothing RnB genre will forever live on the the Philippines. With every home having a rice cooker and a karaoke machine, it is the music, that just fits everyone's voice.
Love this! It’s great seeing you so connected to the music in your reaction. If you’re loving some smooth singing, you ought to react to Laufey like From the Start
You may wish to checkout RYSSI (and BFF) version of Don't you remeber on YT....no reverb, echo etc. - just to friends having a singsong as you do if you live in the Philipines. Technically = you are the BEST REACTOR on TH-cam. You always get the levels right so that your comments don't overshadow the performance. You don't permit the levels to differ between yourself and the performance. Also - your reactions are RESEARCHED and you give interesting and instightful information. To answer @4:02 - back then if the song is in English yes its pure English and if the song is written in Filipino it will pure Filipino, but now a days the use of multiple language and dialects are becoming a norm, specially on the PPOP scene where they use multiple dialect plus the language English

I never knew Rainbow has an MV. Nostalgic song! Back when we only relied on TV and radios who play this song.
Yes. Aside from SB19, Morissette, Michael with this song and Perfect, we have so many great Filipino attists inside the Wish Bus. ❤
Yes i missed those days… those MTV DAYS 😆 Rainbow is a household song those days… another hit song of them is Kahit Kailan, a ballad😊❤
"THE LAND OF THE VOICES" well that made me blush 🥰
Yes, we have a lot of English songs here in Philippines. Mostly came from 2000 bands.
English is our second language so yes, it is normal to have English OPM songs every now and then. Also, Jay Durias may sound familiar because he co-produced "Mapa" of SB19.
English songs are pretty common in OPM especially in RnB 😊
Yes Hurraira, Michael Pangilinan is one of the best Filipino singers...
Her name is Ryssi Avila, you should also check out her and Khel's cover of the song "Nadarang" originally by Shanti Dope. 😊
I used to listen to this song like almost 30 years ago... ❤ time is so fast it reminds me of my childhood ❤
You'll be amazed how many million views this Michael cover got. Pinoy talents is bottomless❤
Rainbow makes me emotional. Makes me remember all the positive things in life. ♥️
