I love how both Clint Eastwood and John Malkovich captured the workaday professionalism of men of their generation. Even when Malkovich kills people to take care of loose ends, it isn't treated as Psychopathic rage or pleasure but just an item that had to be ticked off the checklist. For my money, his was the best performance of 1993, giving us this great ambiguity as to whether or not he had simply lost it or had been driven to that point when deemed disposable by those above him.
I think it's best to see it as a emotional journey for Eastwood's character. His desperation to redeem himself after the Kennedy assassination. Also, John Malkovich was a great villain.
17:45 Interactive Laserdisc sounded interesting for movies you really love (and thought worth buying). But I'm sure not many directors or editors would want their audience to edit their movie. Still, when there are multiple versions of movies, and deleted scenes, it would be interesting to decide before watching which ones you want to see this time. I have the _Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets_ DVD, as well as a version on VHS, but I don't remember whether the latter's from TV and includes the extra scenes, or whether you can watch the DVD with them during the movie. I would like a copy of Aliens with the extra scenes. I went to the 30th anniversary re-release hoping to see them, and of course they weren't there. Still, a lot of good quotes from that movie, including "What are we supposed to use, strong language?" and "You look like I feel" and "What do we do now?" and "Why don't you put her in charge?"
Remember, they are telling us what they like or don't like, not predicting what will be hits or flops. I tried to rate movies on a four scale with 👎1-2, and 3-4 👍, but there are so many that are right on the so-so border 😐, like the latest _Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny_ that I don't know how they did it.
It's not a "good" movie, but Son in law is Pauly Shore's only entertaining movie. Lane Smith carries the film as the straight man. Great 90's flick imo
If you watch their appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Gene lands 10 fat jokes to Roger's one bald joke. Chaz said that Roger weighed 300+ when they met, but it didn't faze him. He thought himself a sexy beast
One-out-of-four for me with these movies… That kid in Rookie of the Year was truly unwatchable in how annoying he was.🤮 Love In the Line of Fire, though.
"Sort of reminds me of our relationship"...low blow from ole Gene there.
“By programming your laser machine.”

Yeah
I just rewatched "In The Line of Fire". It's got alot of cliches but still a very good movie. Clint Eastwood always delivers.
It was worth watching once. But I haven't felt the need to see it a second time.

@@sandal_thong8631 Same here. It's kinda dated and cliched but it's worth a revisit.
Never knew Daniel Stern of Home Alone fame actually directed Rookie of the Year, very cool! HOT ICE!!!

Look how proud Gene is of himself after that wisecrack lol. I think Gene's chuckle at 14:08 was a callback.
Wow. Ebert should have slugged him for that whale remark.
In the Line of Fire was good.
Gene was in love with the flop Rookie of the Year while Roger nailed it on Free Willy
Gene nailed it with his free willy joke when he mentioned his relationship with Roger
@@DrVVVinK ya that was gold

That whale line was crazy
what a savage stray shot
I was like W T F gene?!
Not professional.

Ugh. I think Gene called Roger....a whale. Ooops
He did.
These two were brutal to eachother lol
I think the line was planned, because you can see Roger start to smile before Gene starts talking.

@@shombie2737 it’s good to have confidence when you meet a woman
at least Rookie of the Year is a good film. but we still didnt win the world series. at least until 2016.
I would have ended In The Line of Fire with a hollow victory. Frank winning and not getting the girl.
Gene with the sucker punch right out of the gate
That hasn't aged well. Professional jealousy?
@@sandal_thong8631 It aged perfectly, it's what we loved about them. They were always goofing on each other like brothers.

Rookie of the Year was pure cornball. I didn’t laugh once and, Siskel and Ebert only thought it was good because they live in Chicago.
