Therizino. Therizinos are easy to find early game. Aim for a low level one (or pair) they'll be easier to knock out. They will give eggs that can be used to make the yellow kibble and very little agros to them in the swamp so you can use them to get the rare flowers for that kibble as well. EVERY kibble eatting creature on the island can be tamed off this kibble except thylas and yuties, even the higher level theriz that you can use for the dragon boss fight. Actually, bred theriz can be used for every boss fight, they also gather seeds/berries/fiber/thatch/wood, are great fighters and take up less space in your base. With the resource gathering leveling wheel, you can level their weight and then level power harvesting to make it harder to encumber them. My vote for Island mvp.
Megatherium also draws no aggro unless you attack a wild dino or physically run into one. Exceptions are pegomastix and piranhas, which are both just just assholes, and wake up choosing violence every day. Makes it a great mount for scouting out potential tames. Basically you walk around invisible to all the wild creatures. Down side: because of the lack of aggro, it can make finding insects a bit more difficult.
I slightly disagree with this. For PvE or solo okay a giga is not needed at all. I understand this for pvp though. But the rhynio is the most useful take in my opinion for the Island. You can pick up nearly everything for transport without cryos and to place in traps for taming. It's even fairly fast in the water and has good stats even at low levels. And yes, you forgot weight reduction of argy .
There should be a shout-out for the baryonix for pve at least. With a good saddle, it runs almost all the caves good underwater and can kill anything but gigs and carcas
I love your essential dinos recommendation. For me this is my 10 essentials not in particular order. Anky is really essential, I personally call my Anky "land shrimp" and I even use it as a bodyguard outside my base since it has very high damage output, the metal head. Also, I also partner my Anky with Doedicurus, the rocker head, they are the dynamic duo - the Batman and Robin and of course a little later when levelled up more, the beaver - the third man in the team, the humble wood cutter and emergency Smithy and early semi-water mount as well, afterwhich the big bird brother Argy who is a jack-of-all trades who is always realiable and will always be there for you all throughout. Next are the big 3 boss killer of the Island - Rex, Megatherium and Theri. Don't forget everyones favorite cave adventuring companion the very best choice who can take you to most caves in the Island - the Bary. And of course the cutest pet, mascot and personal temperature controller and artifact carrier and best shoulder dino - the otter. Last but not the least the best commander - I call the General of the army who can make you ascend - The Yuty. My special mention is the Dodo, if Ark will have an in-game currency surely it will be Dodo eggs 😂, it has so much use from foods, kibbles, custom recipes, etc. Might as well be implemented as currency. :D
I typically dont watch teach's videos or post comments but thought I'd give this one a watch and see what he has to say and help new players. I'm an official player and I would suggest theri's over rexes. They're more difficult to tame but worth while. Theri's deal about on par damage with rexes and possibly take less damage than most other creatures when fighting the dragon and you can put veggie cakes in the inventory to instantly and passively heal 500 hp I believe when the health count goes down so it's more difficult to kill your tame. Theri's are also the best at gathering fiber and rare flowers and can farm wood, thatch, berries, and meat so it's well rounded. Rexes are still very good for the mega (boss) with a yuty especially since they don't get knocked back as much for being a large dino. A giga isn't the most needed on the island but it does gather prime meat very easily and quickly if you want to make prime meat jerky or super food recipes with the cooked prime.
I won't say they're essential but the Rhyniognatha has easily become my favorite tame in ark. They're really hard to get since they're basically like taming a Reaper, but they are worth every bit of trouble to tame. One of my buddies sent me a clip where he literally used it to carry a rex and dropped it in another tribes base 😂😂😂
On #9: you mentioned the Dunky for an alternative metal gathering beast, but it also gathers stupid amounts of stone, and has both good weight reduction and high base carry weight. The only real issue I've had using a dunky for stone is trying to efficiently offload all the resources it's gathered. Well... that and you have to be comfortable with the ocean biome but fortunately for me it's my favorite part of the island to play in ;) For PVE at least I'm completely off Giganotosaurus; give me a Carchar instead. It doesn't hit quite as hard to start with, but it's way more agile, feels a little faster by default and leaves the giga in the dust when you've got a frenzy buff, and you have no worries about the rage meter. Warmed up, it'll catch up to and potentially exceed a giga's damage fairly quickly and has an insane healing rate. I've facetanked multiple wild gigas with mine farming hearts or clearing low spawns, and come out of every fight at full health despite the giga's bleed. Granted I don't do PvP so I don't know how they'll compare in that scenario, but when I watch others do pvp it seems to be pretty evenly split.
I’d argue the Mammoth is better than a Beaver due to higher weight stat and higher weight reduction on wood while also being a better gatherer of thatch and berries. The only thing the Beaver has over mammoth is being a mobile smithy, swim speed, and being carried by an Argy.
Doed is also great for sand if you are in a desert biome obviously not yet as much as other maps. Also just to put my 2 cents in argys are definitely vulture related lol its got the mannerisms and the s shaped neck.
My essentials in order I tame in a new game: 1) Ptero and iguano (or parassaur) at the beach I spawn. 2) Argie 3) Anqui, Doedic and beaver 4) A good carnivorous Build a good base. Tame the others.😊

My thoughts: The Anky also great for farming crystal. Beaver: going to the swamp will probably kill you with Kaprosuchus throwing you off the saddle. Cool is that it doesn't drown when left alone, I tamed one that fell asleep under water.
I feel the Rex has to be placed above the Giga. Like sure the Giga is the most powerful tame in the game but what do you do with it? PvP sure but other than that what else? Rexes are boss killers and are basically the biggest staple dino for boss fights and can also be used for everything a Giga can be used for. The boss killer use alone should place the Rex above the Giga.
My go 2 tames (In the very early game) used to be Moschop and Ichthyornis, but since now you get tons of prime meat from any non adult wild creature, I guess ichthyornis can be bypassed.

maybe you can clarify, I have a few hundred hours in ASA and have some very high level beavers and therizinosaurus and by far without question the therizino gathers more wood per tree but does not cut the weight so I have the beaver follow so I can load into it, am I missing something with the beavers gathering?
The most criminal thing of this list is #1 not being the Rhynio. That is, quite literally, a game changer. The issue with taming Yuties you mentioned? Doesn't exist, when you can pluck a Yuty and drop it in a tame pen. It's the fastest flyer, one of the best aquatic mounts (somehow!), and with naturally high stats can rival most land tames outside of sheer damage output. The Giga being on the list is outclassed by the Carcharo in every way. It's faster, deals more damage, farms faster, and is easier to tame, and definitely isn't #1. I'd still put the Anky over the Doed. The Doed will eventually phase out, and farming with the Anky will get you a lot of stone incidentally. I haven't used my Doed in weeks. Anky > Beaver > Doed. Didn't think about using the Dodo in that way.
You completely forgot to mention that the Argentavis has a lot of weight reductions. It gives a 50% reduction on black pearls, polymer (both types), metal and metal ingots, stone, and crystal. This should be much higher than #6. Sure it is useful for picking dinos up, but it is incredibly useful for resource runs. Especially when you have to go further for crystal and obsidian. Yutyrannus is incredibly useful for it's eggs for kibble, but it makes an excellent mount for going through the hard ice cave. You would need cryos to do it, but I prefer the Yuty over the Allosaurus for that cave. Really no Therizino? I find that to be so versatile. I stopped taming beavers and started getting Therizino instead. 1. You can get an insane amount of fiber using their secondary attack. Will also get you rare mushrooms in the swamp. 2. Can stand up better against enemies when out harvesting. 3. You can level up it's different attacks so you can have 1 be your power hitter for wood and 1 be your gentle tickler for fiber. 4. It makes an excellent boss fighter. Best against the dragon, but I've used them successfully against all of them on Island and Scorched Earth. 5. If you drag a sea scorpion to the shore with a grappling hook, a Therizino can get you more black pearls.
I used to lile castors for wood, but they kinda lost the weight reduction to the mammoth, like, mammoth has a lot better reductions for whatever reason and since I don't have another player to spam left click the stupod thing will only gather his puny weight... seriously, castors should still have the reduction at 10% like doedics ..
😢 I have a couple wolfs and a cat but it won’t let me breed them, put them on wondering and if I don’t name the right away I can’t change it or even fix them I am playing on PlayStation 5 if ya have any tips on how to fix that
I used to put the Doedic on wander and it would farm stone on it's own. It was very convenient. Just have to go find it to get the stone out. Does it still do this on Ascended?
I agree with most, but you can literary remove Rex and beaver from list, and replace it with Theri. Theri is better boss killer bcz of dragon, that deals extra dmg to carnis, why breed rex and theri when you can just breed theri. They can also gather wood, berry, fiber, and even leather.
I'd not use a theriz for bosses personally due to the bug of it not eating cakes.....plus Rexes are and always will be the king for boss fights other than water bosses and Titans I imagine
I like your list but I'd argue some of your choices.. Therazinos are MUCH better, in my opinion, for wood gathering because they can fight back very well and can also gather TONS of fiber and berries. I also whole heartedly disagree with the Giga,.. it's too big and too dangerous for feasible use other than stomping around open terrain but I can't count how many times a small drop damaged the Giga and it went nutz on me.. not worth the time, effort or headache... Also .. Baryonyx should be in your list.. one of the best multi use creatures in the game,.. on land or sea or caves... I'm good with the rest of the list though :)

As far as wood gathering, I know the beaver is better but I rather have a mammoth just because when you run into inevitable trouble Mammoth can defend itself pretty darn well, better than a beaver.
where is the therizino? great for rare flowers which are much needed for recipes or for beehives s+.... and they are solid dinos capable of killing almost any creature except giga like creatures.
Swap out the Giga for the Carchar. Sure, it’s stats are SLIGHTLY lower, but its health levels better, melee levels better, stamina and speed levels better, has better speed and stamina on base, has actual abilities, several attacks, is a fucking PASSIVE TAME, and *NO RAGE*
Fundamentally disagree with the rankings as 90% of your game is spent breeding and building resources for building/ammo/blueprints. The argents ability to reduce reource weights, be a mobile smithy, scout for and carry all main resource gatherers, scout/carry many up to mid game fighters to selectively breed from, fight any land based threat outside of a giga/carchar (you still can but super carfully), scout and lure late game tames to traps, etc. A good argent outweighs anything in usefullness until you can get a rhynio much later. Also silica pearls are great but the electical invulnerability, tankiness, and decent damage output of the basilo has always made it the go to tame for the ocean.
I was shocked Giga was even on this list its an utterly useless dino no one should ever bother to tame, Charcha fills the exact same role but deals 50% more damage dosn't have to worry about enrage and and is much faster from one side of the map to the other, its regen also makes it nere immortal. There is never a reason to tame or breed Giga once you many to tame Charcha.
I'd be quite negligent if I ignored your blatant disregardful for Therizino and Ankylo/Argent Combo should definitely be discussed. Though you are quite thorough, so im sure you did for another clip. I know you are wanting to make vids for the beginner..... but with all this time you have on Ark have you not gone into building? the AMAZING MECHANICS QOL in ASA and the now, essentially armored base? what about raids? have we gone and discovered raids? The giga is why I don't play PvP lol I remember when Ark SE came out on console, my first server was a PvP one and as soon as I loaded in a tamed 300+ giga ate me . . Never went on another PvP server again lol plus I love building and would hate to see my work destroyed

Like alot of your dinos you said but the thing is Ranking argys at number 6 is makes your hole list invalid and reason behind it argys are the most used flyer for pvp because they can pick and do so much damage and have good hp yes there slow but you can win vs pts most of the time if you know how to use them
Argentavis would be my #1 most useful and most used tame. It’s my goal to get one when starting out. But I’ve never tackled a boss, tamed a Giga, or been in a tribe with more than 2 people. So end game I’m not sure they would be the most used. But they are definitely the most used tame in the game
no basilo, no theri, cant do dragon no oviraptor, cant mutate efficiently no ryna, cant catch theris easily no otter, tek cave is going to suck no bary, caves are going to suck in general carcha is nearly a direct upgrade on giga these videos are bordering on rage bait mr 12k hours
Rex kill dragon faster than theri with decently bread Rex they can kill dragon before it even takes off, Theri is overated you do not need them at all, they are a waste of time. I do agree Otter should have been on the list, Barry is eh, really not better than Baber or Thylo. Charcha is a direct upgrade to Giga and simply better in every way Giga should not have made the top 10 at all, for caves Berry has been replaced by Saber since the Saber got its speed and jump really buffed, its simply faster, Berry is oldschool but overated these days.

You can level up it's different attacks so you can have 1 be your power hitter for wood and 1 be your gentle tickler for fiber. 4. It makes an excellent boss fighter. Best against the dragon, but I've used them successfully against all of them on Island and Scorched Earth. 5. If you drag a sea scorpion to the shore with a grappling hook, a Therizino can get you more black pearls.
They are absolutely horrible to tame.

I used to lile castors for wood, but they kinda lost the weight reduction to the mammoth, like, mammoth has a lot better reductions for whatever reason and since I don't have another player to spam left click the stupod thing will only gather his puny weight... seriously, castors should still have the reduction at 10% like doedics ..

My list would be Argy #1, Theri #2, Otter #3. You can beat the island without any specific tame, but these all make life easier.

I used to put the Doedic on wander and it would farm stone on it's own. It was very convenient. Just have to go find it to get the stone out. Does it still do this on Ascended?

I agree with most, but you can literary remove Rex and beaver from list, and replace it with Theri. Theri is better boss killer bcz of dragon, that deals extra dmg to carnis, why breed rex and theri when you can just breed theri. They can also gather wood, berry, fiber, and even leather.
I'd not use a theriz for bosses personally due to the bug of it not eating cakes.....plus Rexes are and always will be the king for boss fights other than water bosses and Titans I imagine

I like your list but I'd argue some of your choices.. Therazinos are MUCH better, in my opinion, for wood gathering because they can fight back very well and can also gather TONS of fiber and berries. I also whole heartedly disagree with the Giga,.. it's too big and too dangerous for feasible use other than stomping around open terrain but I can't count how many times a small drop damaged the Giga and it went nutz on me.. not worth the time, effort or headache... Also .. Baryonyx should be in your list.. one of the best multi use creatures in the game,.. on land or sea or caves... I'm good with the rest of the list though :)
Giga fall damage rage has been buffed in Ark SE. I would think the same for Ark SA other than that I agree Giga more of a PVP or Tek cave mount.

As far as wood gathering, I know the beaver is better but I rather have a mammoth just because when you run into inevitable trouble Mammoth can defend itself pretty darn well, better than a beaver.
where is the therizino? great for rare flowers which are much needed for recipes or for beehives s+.... and they are solid dinos capable of killing almost any creature except giga like creatures.

Swap out the Giga for the Carchar. Sure, it’s stats are SLIGHTLY lower, but its health levels better, melee levels better, stamina and speed levels better, has better speed and stamina on base, has actual abilities, several attacks, is a fucking PASSIVE TAME, and *NO RAGE*

Fundamentally disagree with the rankings as 90% of your game is spent breeding and building resources for building/ammo/blueprints. The argents ability to reduce reource weights, be a mobile smithy, scout for and carry all main resource gatherers, scout/carry many up to mid game fighters to selectively breed from, fight any land based threat outside of a giga/carchar (you still can but super carfully), scout and lure late game tames to traps, etc. A good argent outweighs anything in usefullness until you can get a rhynio much later.
Also silica pearls are great but the electical invulnerability, tankiness, and decent damage output of the basilo has always made it the go to tame for the ocean.
I was shocked Giga was even on this list its an utterly useless dino no one should ever bother to tame, Charcha fills the exact same role but deals 50% more damage dosn't have to worry about enrage and and is much faster from one side of the map to the other, its regen also makes it nere immortal. There is never a reason to tame or breed Giga once you many to tame Charcha.

Pve players will know the struggle to find a beaver because spawns are usually selfishly blocked by foundations

Like alot of your dinos you said but the thing is Ranking argys at number 6 is makes your hole list invalid and reason behind it argys are the most used flyer for pvp because they can pick and do so much damage and have good hp yes there slow but you can win vs pts most of the time if you know how to use them
Argentavis would be my #1 most useful and most used tame. It’s my goal to get one when starting out. But I’ve never tackled a boss, tamed a Giga, or been in a tribe with more than 2 people. So end game I’m not sure they would be the most used. But they are definitely the most used tame in the game

Rex kill dragon faster than theri with decently bread Rex they can kill dragon before it even takes off, Theri is overated you do not need them at all, they are a waste of time. I do agree Otter should have been on the list, Barry is eh, really not better than Baber or Thylo. Charcha is a direct upgrade to Giga and simply better in every way Giga should not have made the top 10 at all, for caves Berry has been replaced by Saber since the Saber got its speed and jump really buffed, its simply faster, Berry is oldschool but overated these days.
