Easily the best song on Downward Spiral, tied only with Mr. Self Destruct, Piggy, Hersey, March of the Pigs, Closer, Ruiner, I Do Not Want This, Big Man With A Gun, A Warm Place, Eraser, Reptile, The Downward Spiral, and Hurt.
I beat my machine it's a part of me it's inside of me i'm stuck in this dream it's changing me i am becoming the me that you know had some second thoughts he's covered with scabs he is broken and sore the me that you know doesn't come around much that part of me isn't here anymore all pain disappears it's the nature of my circuitry drowns out all i hear there's no escape from this my new consciousness the me that you know used to have feelings but the blood has stopped pumping and he's left to decay the me that you know is now made up of wires and even when i'm right with you i'm so far away i can try to get away but i've strapped myself in i can try to scratch away the sound in my ears i can see it killing away all my bad parts i don't want to listen but it?s all too clear hiding backwards inside of me i feel so unafraid annie, hold a little tighter i might just slip away it won't give up it wants me dead goddamn this noise inside my head
Cool vid... about as close to really "acoustic" as we'll probably ever see from these guys, even if there is still a pre-recorded track running throughout. But man... wouldn't it be cool to see a truly unplugged show from this band? Like old-school MTV unplugged with Nine Inch Nails... I'd pay money to see that for sure.
I love this NIN song for a very unique reason. Among the NIN catalog it's the song, I think, best lends itself to different variations. I loathe most heavy songs which get stripped down, played acoustically, etc. This version of this song, strips away everything save for the key factors and then amplifies them. Trent's vocals are front and center, with the drum and base tracks. This allows these few elements to really become enhanced. I love that. But I love the studio version as well as various live versions.
@coleseidl You're right. I used to think the piano was kinda boring then I found NIN many years ago. I suddenly realized that it was a bad ass instrument if u use it right.
@lithjimmy That's because they are playing along with a pre-recorded track with a lot of instrumentation already on it. And to the guy who said "that's the acoustic guitar"; No, that's pre-recorded piano. If you want, just watch the drummer; He's not playing all of those loops. In fact, the drum loops start well before he plays a single note. Not that there's anything wrong with this; I'm just trying to clear up some of the confusion about this performance.
@reptile914 Probably using live loop recording, use a stomp-box to record a section then start it looping on demand, good for layering in live situations. Used to good effect live by the likes of Kaki King and Liam Finn.
im a huge NIN fan. always will be. great "LIVE" performance. or is it? this is prolly the most amazing acoustic version of any song i ever heard. but why is his piano still playing from 1:50 to 2:50 if both his hands are on the mic? hmmm :-\
Some one know where can i find this version? i have this album NIИ live kroq almost acoustic christmas-2005-12-10, there isnt this version! :'( i wanna cry for this!
lol you guys and your snape comments xD yeah trent definitely was an inspiration for snapes character and look, but give it a rest already. trents way hotter :P

Definitely one of a kind, intense, addictive song.
How can it be "easily the best song" but tied with 12 of the 13 songs on the album?
@@jjm76247 theyre all gr8
I beat my machine it's a part of me
it's inside of me
i'm stuck in this dream
it's changing me
i am becoming
the me that you know
had some second thoughts
he's covered with scabs
he is broken and sore
the me that you know
doesn't come around much
that part of me isn't here anymore
all pain disappears
it's the nature of my circuitry
drowns out all i hear
there's no escape from this my
new consciousness
the me that you know used to have feelings
but the blood has stopped pumping
and he's left to decay
the me that you know is now made up of wires
and even when i'm right with you i'm so far away
i can try to get away but i've strapped myself in
i can try to scratch away the sound in my ears
i can see it killing away all my bad parts
i don't want to listen but it?s all too clear
hiding backwards inside of me i feel so unafraid
annie, hold a little tighter i might just slip away
it won't give up it wants me dead
goddamn this noise inside my head
BY FAR THE BEST THING IVE EVER CROSSED ON YOU TUBE!!

why doesn't this have over a billion hits already?
*clap clap clap* (the silence was a bit awkward at the end as this deserves a big applause)
@bullsfan93 Jerome Dillon - Drums. Danny Lohner - Guitar. We need NIN back and with these guys.
Thank you. Off of the best cd of all time The Downward Spiral.
wow... no words...
Trent aLways brings his everything to his live performances.
This is my favorite NIN performance
Trent Reznor... Making the grand piano the most badass instrament ever, since 1987.
@coleseidl
You're right. I used to think the piano was kinda boring then I found NIN many years ago. I suddenly realized that it was a bad ass instrument if u use it right.
Trent is a FUCKIN GENIUS... to swimming in that way on the dissonance and atonality...

Hey Adam I can hear your thoughts 💭
Back when Trent was amazing
lol you guys and your snape comments xD yeah trent definitely was an inspiration for snapes character and look, but give it a rest already. trents way hotter :P
:)
Also Trent's alive
KazakhToon I laughed. I feel bad as a Snape/Rickman fan, but that got me. LOL
Trent went from snape to drax, he put on an impressive amount of muscle
what kind of pedal are they using to get that synth drum sound out of the acoustic guitar?
the synth drum and some of the piano during the verses are on a loop
@carloshhache he wants to play it like an animal ^^
That drummer though...
he hit chris vrenna. jerome wasn't in the band yet back then. they were playing Sin.
His first record after he overcame an addiction
Fucking genius!
Robb Stark on guitar.
Free at last !
@lithjimmy Thats the acoustic guitar. Listen..... The sound is too warm to be that piano
i have the same mic as him xD
WOw
can someone tell me whos playing guitar and drums?
I just noticed that Trent kinda looks like professor snape......ha....No wonder his music is so awsome.....He probably knows magic....
getting sober did a number on him... he looks older in this than he does now...
past the mission behind the prison tower...
weird, the guy from smash mouth sings alot like this
I know... his mics are lucky...
sometimes...
once he wipped one at a drummer's head live... O_O
the guitar has nothing to do with what i just said. im refering to the piano still playing while trents hands arent even playing.
Ai'nt that the truth?
xD
great song, ok version. the drummers overly dramatic facial expressions are annoying though.
