Thanks to TH-cam I bought the first series of Rawhide in 2022 and saw it for the first time at the age of 68! And I can tell you that I'll buy the next one too! Music, actors and even plots deserve my love.
This year marks the centennial of the birth of Frankie Laine, who sang the theme song. (March 30--also my birthday, but I'm not telling my age, LOLOLOLOLOL). Happy New Year.
I never actually watched this show. I would watch the opening credits, leave the room for an hour while my parents watched it and then came back for the closing theme.
Got a question. I totally love this series Western. It stands above Wagon Train or the preachy corny Bonanza. I started watching these on H&I and have noticed the many openings and closings of "head em up, move em out. I noticed that Season 7 has an awesome opening with silhouettes merging into Remington like busts of Fleming, Eastwood, and Brinegar. When I check opening of Season 7 posted on TH-cam, the opening is cut short. Is this what I will find in the reissue? Also, I think someone should post ALL of the openings and closings of trail boss Gil as well. What an incredible era of our country both then and when this series was made.
Clint Eastwood, I read he doesn't collect a penny from this show. . He was on contract with no back end residuals. . That would never happen these days, actors and their agents cover their assets.
Eric Fleming was a good actor and under ordinary conditions he would have attained all the attention that the leading man in a television series usually receives. Unfortunately, for Mr. Fleming, the second lead was Cllint Eastwood. Guess who received all the attention. I heard that it used to drive the shows' producers nuts because their leading man wasn't being recognized.
Head em up , Move em out . Love it. Gil Favor was one hell of a trail boss. He died a tragic death too Young in real life.
He lived an incredible life. Wiki him. No one handed anything to him. He was truly tall in the saddle.
Sad he drown
Still my hero
Coolest ever western theme song; makes me wanna saddle up, cut'em out, and ride'em in.
My Dad loved that show, I remember watching that show, every week.. without fail.
We play this for pep band at my school and I never realized how strange that is till now.... Still love it.
Thank YOU AMC for bringing back a Classic
Oh my God! I'm back living in Philadelphia, PA at age 5 watching this program with my daddy.....I think I'll cry now!
much better then
Theme from the TV show Rawhide Smash (thank you).
I remember watching this when I was a lot younger. I now watch it on Saturdays (2 episodes) on MeTV. I never knew Clint Eastwood was in this.
My favorite episode is one where they encountered the ghost of a little girl. Nothing like cowboys and the supernatural...
An absolutely great song by a fab singer. Good for the ringtone on my mobile, cheers
Great show and song! Need more shows like this. The Cowboy a great american hero!
Agree! The theme where they have the cattle drive makes the show more outstanding!

My uncle told me when he was a kid that when he acted bad his mom, aunt , and grandma would woop his ass with a belt to this song whenever it came on.

I bet he had a Rawhide after the song was finished
this may be the best ending credits of all time,,,if not for this one only....
That show gave nostalgia to the fans of this show

If you think of women instead of cattle, this song offers great advice.
Rawhide is western tv show
gil favor was boss, literally. rowdy yeats (clint eastwood) a ladies man still in training...
Dude, it's Rowdy Yates; Gil Favor (Eric Fleming, trail boss).
The great Frankie Laine
Interesting thesis. So what you're saying is the song played a key role in the success of the show, and/or the quality as well?
I like the Dead Kennedys cover.
Before he was the “Man with No Name”, “Dirty Harry”, and “Josey Wales”, he was simply….CLINT EASTWOOD as Rowdy Yates
Elwood and Joliet Jake brung me here
