    I want to do that with a 5 year old lemon tree I have in a 10 gallon pot. I already started with a Cara Cara orange graft to it and 2 variegated lemon cuttings. Want to add a mandarin, Persian Lime, Washington Naval, Smith Blood orange and Meyer Lemon to it. The tree itself has never produced any flowers or fruit. But so far my grafts that I have on their so far are still green.

    • @kaimukibackyard148
      @kaimukibackyard148  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Most of the strains began flowering and fruiting within the year. However, if you want the branch to thicken up quicker, best to pinch off the flowers for the first year and let the graft become thicker for strength. Maturing fruit becomes heavy.

    I live in Kapahulu and have a few citrus varieties but I struggle with aphids. They seem to love my trees especially the tangerines. Your friends tree looks extremely healthy with no aphids making the leaves curl. Neem oil doesn’t seem to be helping. Any tips?

    • @kaimukibackyard148
      @kaimukibackyard148  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I don't have any tips. Could be a very localized thing. As in once found, the aphids exploit your tree's new leaves. If your tree is big, you may just want to use one of the pesticide sprays for fruit trees.

That video is also posted on this channel. Also, I have recently grafted Meyer lemon onto Kaffir Lime. And I've grafted Tahitian lime onto Kaffir lime.

      as far as I know all citrus can be grafted to each other. but if you put a larger variety onto a smaller root stock it can be too weak to support the fruit and break the branch.

      Lemons have small root to canopy ratios (typically 1:3), so you can grow in pots, indoors.

      Yes, haha, I was in search too and Koolau didn't have any. I found the green plant tie tape at Lowes Iwilei. It's hanging on the wall outside the store in the greenhouse with the plants. Was something like $3.99 for the roll. I also found fluorescent pink tape, sold as surveying or marking tape, with a slight stretch without adhesive, at Ross in the little area where they sell hand held tools, doorknobs, etc. Was like $3.00 for a roll. Comes and goes though.

    Hi KBY, that was a very interesting tree for sure. I have a Meyers lemon tree in a container growing well and I pruned it last year following instructions for container growing. I am wondering if you know what kind of fertilizer I should be using as my tree (grafted) does not fruit but just grows. It is not a very tall tree as I kept it low as instructed for containers.

      @@kaimukibackyard148 I understand your question regarding interstock cause there is little info online about it, interstock means the part of the tree that comes between the rootstock and the other grafted branches, for example if a c35 was the rootstock, then a flying dragon was grafted on it then valcencia orange was grafted on the flying dragon, in the case the flying dragon that's between the the valencia orange and the c35 is the interstock
