The guitar for this new wave classic was more than a tip of the cap to Stuart Adamson of the Skids, the track being OF ONE SKIN, before he went on to form BIG COUNTRY, still love this song .
Had the album in 1979, still play it today, good few recordings on it, Stepping Stones, Changing with the times good tracks, and of course The Shape of Things to come, saw them on swap shop, crackerjack, maybe blue Peter! Still great record now, it's a shame tracks like these never played on radio, And yes top of the pops
I was an 18 year old disillusioned punk rocker in New Zealand..listened to a lot of great alternative bands that were making a change through music...the headboys were among the mix...a great band !
Will never forget their concert in Kant Kino Berlin. When fans requested an extra song the answer was: "we're running out of numbers!" Great song, still and forever. And more on their (only?) album.
I have never ever forgot this very underrated song. Hadn't heard it for decades until TH-cam came along. Absolutely love it. I'd love to know if the guys are still with us
I have not been able to get this song out of my head for the last three days. So, I figured I would come to youtube & see if I could find it to get my fix. Thank You!
Glad to say that it isn't that forgotten, saw a covers band doing this more than justice,in my local pub - really enjoyed it. looked them up & they're on you-tube as well, - 90% Proof Shape of Things to Come - if anyone else wants to have a listen.
Man, I've been thinking about this song for 30 years. I heard it once in the late 80's and I had no way of searching for it before the web. Occasionally it would pop into my head and I'd wonder if I'd dreamed the song or if it was real. I had no idea of the group, album, anything.
" You live in your dreams, I'll live in mine, maybe tomorrow we will collide", can't believe i've found this after all these years . Fantastic, thank you so much.
They used to play this on KDQ 93 in Grand Forks, ND, fall of '79, went out bought the album, played the hell out of it, still have it but no longer have a turntable and it's not available on digital or cd . . . such a great song, such an under-appreciated band, a very good rock'n'roll album.
+squinkque I also have this album on vinyl. I contacted the band through FaceBook and they told me it was not available in any digiatl form. What a pity.
You are correct! This appeared on Video Concert Hall during practically its entire run from 1979 to 1983. This, however, IS NOT the video that appeared on the show. I have been searching for this song for almost 30 years and can't believe that I found it! InCrowdKraut: THANKS FOR POSTING!
I was in the audience for Crackerjack in 1980 with the cubs group I was with, and these guys came on to sing this. Wasn't very interested in the song, but I have never forgotten it!
Brilliance often lies in its simplicity. Haven't heard this song for a very, very long time. But it still manages to get me overexcited after all these years. Nice to see this lot back in town again. Metaphorically speaking ofcourse...
I heard this maybe twice on the late, lamented KJET in Seattle when I was about 13, and 20 years later I still remembered some of the lyrics. Took me years to find the band, (Do a search of 'The Shape Of Things To Come' on 15kbs dialup and you'll understand.) downloaded it, and luckily burned it before Kazaa bluescreened my computer. (Twice) *Easily* the best song that nobody's ever heard. Someone with radio connections has got to get this back on the air!
Love the hard drivin' rippin' guitar, the crazy fun lyrics - ashamed and proud to say how many times I play the air drums and guitar and sing this song when I am driving down the highway - an American with Scot heritage - yeah that must be why I like this song so much! What are the shape of things to come? Good listening everyone.
I saved very little vinyl but The Headboys is one I hung onto due to this song. We had a band here in Cincinnati, Dennis the Menace, that used to do a cover of this tune right after it came out. Their version was actually the first that I heard and then had to find the record.
What a joy to relive the Headboys' "The Shape of Things to Come." I used to own the album, but I think my mom threw it away when I moved out and didn't pack my stuff ten years later. I couldn't find it on iTunes. Why not?
Thank you for sharing this video. I purchased the LP in 1979 while working in a record store in Cupertino, Ca. This song and group rocks. California, USA
I've been looking for this one for a while. Had the original vinyl of this album but lost it in a house fire in '89. Good to see the video again brings back some good memories...
OMG......Wow. So good to see this. After all these years , Me and my mates thought we were the only ones have this superb song in our collection. I've still got the 7" single...........AND the Album !!!!!.................Fuck me.......................A Classic !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this man !!!!!!!. Someone that knows a brilliant song when they hear it. Hats off and a Salute to you. The times I got stoned and pumped this up on full bore. Fucking Brill. !!!!!!!!
Fantastic, one hell of a flash back. There was only one weekly radio playing this one back then and there. Great memories. Thanks for the post, very much appreciated.
I'm sitting here totally digging this amazing song from my past and wondering why the album is still not available on CD after all these years. Too bad. I'd love to walk around NYC listening to it on my iPod.
Thank you for posting this. I can finally put faces with the music. Found my old 45 and just for giggles did a search on here! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Found it! Heard this once years ago and never again. Why did I somehow think it had to do with Jefferson Starship? With something like TH-cam in 1980, we could have put the guys into viral success in no time.
Rare indeed ! I've not seen it before, least I don't recall. Fantastic song from a fantastic time in music. I have the album on vinyl and play it every now and again. Tied to figure the riff, I'm not very good, but now I can see it.....thanks to the uploader
I have the cassette. Never found a CD of their one time album. I was immersed in new wave at the time as it was emerging and this was getting a lot of airplay on the FM station I used to listen to. Those days were so cool and I miss them greatly. Excellent tune for nostalgiacs.
Thank you for posting this! I loved this song so much, had it on "20 of Another Kind", lost the vinyl, and could not remember the name of the band. This, to me, is the summer of 1980.
I have a tape from about 1980 that has a very poor quality snippet of a Headboys radio gig. There's a song that appears to be called "Kick It Over", and also a beautiful, spectral ballad - does anyone know what the latter is called? It's just voice and piano, very ghostly sounding. From Googling, this radio show seems to have been repeated on 6 Music, but there's no recording of it anywhere that I can find.
I have two versions of this, both by the same artist! Marian Gold did a partial version of it in his '92 solo album, SO LONG CELESTE, but there's a full version in his limited Alphaville box set, DREAMSCAPES.
A neglected but not forgotten classic. Still have the original 7" on RSO (which was probably a death sentence for the band-Robert Stigwood was too busy hanging out on yachts to give a shot about the acts on his label-except the disco soundtracks). Just love the way this is composed, where it starts and where it finishes.
I read online that George Boyter said this album and unreleased tracks that were to become a second album are due for a release soon. Pretty exciting news for us Headboys fans
Holy cow..I remember seeing this video..and owned the record..On a whim I checked to see on the odd chance someone posted it..It's good to know I'm not the only one to remember it. Canadian band ? unsure..Thank you.
This is a brilliant song - forgot about it till recently, but isn't that line "play with your own life, but don't play with mine" just one of the best ever?! Pretty much sums up life and relationships, huh?
Awesome! Thanks for posting this. I bought the single back in the day and it was on my jukebox for years. Love this song. Brilliant structure, excellent chorus, guitar/keyboard solo. Just awesome!
Brilliant record still have the 7” with pic cover and an unopened sealed copy of the album.
So sad to hear of the passing of George Boyter the base guitarist , lovely gut , sadly missed
The guitar for this new wave classic was more than a tip of the cap to Stuart Adamson of the Skids, the track being OF ONE SKIN, before he went on to form BIG COUNTRY, still love this song .
Love this now, loved it in 1979......what a song!
fantastic song!!!!!
Had the album in 1979, still play it today, good few recordings on it, Stepping Stones, Changing with the times good tracks, and of course The Shape of Things to come, saw them on swap shop, crackerjack, maybe blue Peter! Still great record now, it's a shame tracks like these never played on radio, And yes top of the pops
this is one song that never grow old
I used to play this over and over I am 69 and I still like it.
"Babe" started promptlly at 11:11 every night (CST)
I was an 18 year old disillusioned punk rocker in New Zealand..listened to a lot of great alternative bands that were making a change through music...the headboys were among the mix...a great band !
There's so many SHAPE songs, and this is the BEST EVER!!!! 1979 was a bitchin' year for me, and this song brings me back.
Can't even begin to describe how much joy this song has gifted to me over the decades..eternally magnificent
I have been looking for this song for an eternity.
Will never forget their concert in Kant Kino Berlin. When fans requested an extra song the answer was: "we're running out of numbers!" Great song, still and forever. And more on their (only?) album.
This is good shit.
I turn 60 tomorrow.
A belated Happy Birthday!
Happy 65th!!!!!!!
I'd hear this on Video Concert Hall in 1980
Does this ever bring back some GOOD memories. In 1980 I was 18 years old...
So was I and ditto :-)
The drummer looks like he was 13.
i cant believe this is on here, what a tune and what a band fucking brilliant, one of my favourite tunes off all time thanks for posting
I have never ever forgot this very underrated song. Hadn't heard it for decades until TH-cam came along. Absolutely love it. I'd love to know if the guys are still with us
Got this on vinyl when it came out." You live in your dream,I'll live in mine, maybe tomorrow we will collide".oh yes.
29 years man...and sounds great
Always coming back.classic.
I have not been able to get this song out of my head for the last three days. So, I figured I would come to youtube & see if I could find it to get my fix. Thank You!

" You live in your dreams, I'll live in mine, maybe tomorrow we will collide", can't believe i've found this after all these years . Fantastic, thank you so much.
I was 15 years old and I went for the first concert in my life to the Paradiso theater in Amsterdam to see ths great band.
Thanks for posting.
This is so good.
oldie but goodie, love this song...............
"Play with your own life, but don't play with mine". I'd love to get that printed on a t-shirt, but I know I'd be tempted to wear it 24/7.
Saw the Headboys at Lewisham, supporting Dire Straits - thought they were far more enjoyable than the main act!
even take into account,1980 was a bitchin year for me,the song brings back a lot
of beautiful memories, a lot a lot, Thanks for posting it.
I loved this song when it first came out, and it's still AWESOME!!!
Damn, I loved this song. I can't believe I found it.
oh man ,this takes me back !!!!
wow this is so cool, seeing this video and listening to this song after such a long time. this was my first song on stage. long long long long ago
So Very Underrated.................should have had a lot more Air Time..............still one of my fave bands.....
Another band that got lost in the other hundred bands from 1978 to 1980 that couldn't break it big time.
Surely an underrated gem. Pop genius
They used to play this on KDQ 93 in Grand Forks, ND, fall of '79, went out bought the album, played the hell out of it, still have it but no longer have a turntable and it's not available on digital or cd . . . such a great song, such an under-appreciated band, a very good rock'n'roll album.

What a pity indeed. One of the lost great albums of rock'n'roll.
I'm from Grand Forks and I have the album - won it from KKXL in '79. Ripped it to mp3 long ago and listen to it often.
You are correct! This appeared on Video Concert Hall during practically its entire run from 1979 to 1983. This, however, IS NOT the video that appeared on the show. I have been searching for this song for almost 30 years and can't believe that I found it!

I was in the audience for Crackerjack in 1980 with the cubs group I was with, and these guys came on to sing this. Wasn't very interested in the song, but I have never forgotten it!
This song has always stuck in my head since I was in the 6th form in Skipton 1979, great to find it here today
Brilliance often lies in its simplicity.
Haven't heard this song for a very, very long time. But it still manages to get me
overexcited after all these years.
Nice to see this lot back in town again.
Metaphorically speaking ofcourse...
One of my all time favourites. Just a shame far more people didnt know it at the time.
Great to find this song on You tube, thanks for posting !

Rare and great video. The A-side of the vynil was terrific, most of all this song. I´d like to get it on CD but it´s impossible. Thanks for posting.
brilliant song, a forgotten gem from late '79, glad to have found it here!! thanks for posting it
Thank you for posting this. I can finally put faces with the music. Found my old 45 and just for giggles did a search on here! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
In my youth in a group called The Odds in 1979 we backed the Head Boys at the Marquee... amazing times... seems like a long time ago now... It was!!!
This on the eve of the November 2020 election...
I relate this song with the first ride in november 1979 on my motorcycle!
Found it! Heard this once years ago and never again. Why did I somehow think it had to do with Jefferson Starship? With something like TH-cam in 1980, we could have put the guys into viral success in no time.
Awesome song!!
A very Satisfying Song
One of my favourite ever
If your satisfied by this your hubby must get off lightly.
Wonderful song.
amazing band pleasant memories of seeing them at the keppoch inn culloden, Inverness
Great song from the late 70''s
Rare indeed ! I've not seen it before, least I don't recall. Fantastic song from a fantastic time in music. I have the album on vinyl and play it every now and again. Tied to figure the riff, I'm not very good, but now I can see it.....thanks to the uploader
I heard this on JRZ in 1980 ...down on LBI ...i was 14
Thank you for posting this! I haven't heard this song in maybe 20 years, and this is the first time I've ever seen the video. TH-cam rocks.
God, I loved this record in 1980!

ACDC Anything goes. Love how the two are just awesome songs.
thats the good stuff right there!!
Early days of MTV. This song and Radio Killed the Video Star. New wave rock, very short time period. Loved it.
I actually have two copies of this amazing album.
why not convert the lp's to mp3 then share them, nice thought. :-)
Robert Harrison:... You lucky duck! Grrreat record(s)! I've got a mint copy of this on 7 inch vinyl! Just such a fantastic track!
Thank you for posting this! I loved this song so much, had it on "20 of Another Kind", lost the vinyl, and could not remember the name of the band. This, to me, is the summer of 1980.

Been donkey's ears... fantastic!

Yeah! I love this image. I can remember movin' from the U.K. to Holland aged 14 and doing the same but to XTC - Cross Wires.
Hell yeah!!! I still have the 45 with this on side A, “and The mood I’m in” on B👌👍
@amonduultje nog steeds best lekker om te horen
Love this song, managed to get some HB's mp3's some years ago, never quite matched this though
This is a brilliant song - forgot about it till recently, but isn't that line "play with your own life, but don't play with mine" just one of the best ever?! Pretty much sums up life and relationships, huh?
had the single of this
Awesome! Thanks for posting this. I bought the single back in the day and it was on my jukebox for years. Love this song. Brilliant structure, excellent chorus, guitar/keyboard solo. Just awesome!
Wow
This is amazing
If there was a God s(he) would send me back to the day I first heard this song
