Thanks, football. See what you've taken away? The Big East Tournament was just about as riveting as the NCAAs. Hoyas, 'Cuse, Huskies, Johnnies, 'Cats, Pitt, ... so many obscenely good memories. RIP, college hoops as we knew and loved it.
You KNOW this was a big game when Dick Vitale was calling it instead of the ACC tournament - until last year this was the only time I could ever remember Vitale not doing the ACC tournament when it was on ESPN.
1985 and 1996 were the two best years in the Big East. I was too young to remember '85 but I do know '96 as incredible. I can still recall watching this game live! The Villanova phone card scandal was the talk of the tournament. 1996 in general was an awesome year for college hoops give how good UK and UMass were. The star power across the country was off the charts! Kittles at 'Nova, Iverson at Georgetown, Wallace at Syracuse and Allen at UConn made for a great year in the BE. Croshere and Garrity were also really good players at that time.
tuowl05 1996 is my favorite year ever in college hoops with 1999 behind it.... this game hurts me to this day!! isn't it crazy with all the great teams in the big east that year who thought Syracuse would make it to the final... that was the last good year for my hoyas. I was sad Allan left. the phone card scandal 😂😂😂I forgotten all about that.
Felipe Lopez , Dan Hurley , and Adrian Griffin were pretty good big East players to add to ur list. God Shammgod was a freshman at Providence also. Ur list has the cream , just showing how deep and fun big East was and college hoops around and in 1996 in general . Plus I'm a diehard Umass fan and that was as good as it got for us , this yr and the Lou Roe, Camby, Calipari yrs anyways..
1984-1985 was THE best year for the Big East by far. Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin (2 of the 20 greatest college basketball players of all time), and Pearl Washington. Heck, three teams went to the final four in 1985 (Georgetown, St. John’s, and Villanova) and Boston College almost got there too. That’s total domination of college basketball.
Yo the way A.I came down on this after Ray Allen's shot is so iLL Dicky V screaming Ohhhh ohhh!!! makes it more epic it was his last chance to win it what a epic moment at the Garden A.I a Legend.
Victor Page. Still the only player to be MVP of the Big East Tourney on a Losing Team.....Lit Ray Allen up and contained him to 18 pts. Ray still fucking killed us with that bs shot....But the greats get that roll. Classic, just hurt being on the losing side
Big East Basketball was some of my greatest moments growing as a kid and teenager. I was too young for the 80s, but mainly remember the late 90s and the 2000s, where the Big East hit another great era of success. Im glad it's still going strong today, but Syracuse and Pitt were two teams that gave the Big East a lot of good memories in this tournament, along with others like UCONN, Georgetown, St. John's, and others. I'm glad UCONN went back to the Big East, I wish Syracuse and Pitt never left the Big East. I know why they left, but it sucked because the ACC is good in basketball, but there's just something about the Big East that I will always treasure and some of my best moments for Pitt basketball were memories of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. From playing UCONN in three straight Big East Tournament Championships to 02-04, but I would undoubtedly the best Big East I've ever seen in this tournament, was the 6OT marathon between UCONN and Syracuse from 2009.
I think Allen Iverson said that he was his toughest defender he ever faced (if I'm remember correctly). It's crazy how Iverson scored only 13 points in that game.
lol Iverson just missed shots he made countless times. People confuse "good defense" with shots just not falling. Ricky Moore did play good this game though.
I know the Big Ten is going to have their tournament in MSG in 2018, but it's never going to be like this again, even with the re-tooled Big East. The Big Ten should always have their tournaments in Indianapolis or Chicago. Even this year in DC was strange.
This was some of the best basketball. Thought coach Thompson coached the end of this game to lose. Didn't like holding that ball with paying the clock, instead he should have been playing the Huskies. Never coach to lose.. Williams missing that putback layup is something you can't coach.. Have to make your layups.., Classic game, remember it like yesterday..
They are both great lmao you're the sports fan I hate. You can't just say one guy is great and you are a fan of him and say the other guy is great as Well. You could say Iverson was great and not mention Ray but no you're the idiot who thinks cause you like the one guy then the other guy sucks. The dumbest fans on earth

Big East is almost back. At least Uconn is now
Still getting better
Football can suck a monstrous dick. Who gives a shit aout going to the double headed dildo bowl presented by tampons

This was my childhood!!!!Victor page left college to early
Victor Page. Still the only player to be MVP of the Big East Tourney on a Losing Team.....Lit Ray Allen up and contained him to 18 pts. Ray still fucking killed us with that bs shot....But the greats get that roll. Classic, just hurt being on the losing side
I remember that. 2 all time greatest goin head to head at 19 years old
This game was incredible to attend, my first time in Madison Square Garden and boy did I sober up quickly in the final minutes due to the stress!

I remember Watching Iverson, Allen and Kittles all battle in the big east, when i was younger. Some good ball played during that time
Hell yeah fond memories of my childhood. Big East is the best
Indeed!!! Sprinkle in a little Lawrence Moten and Felipe Lopez amazing times. AI all day though. Just wish Williams went up a bit stronger though.🤣
easily the most iconic uconn unis. long live the big east.
A lot of talent on the basketball court.
R.I.P. coach.
One of the most significant moments in my childhood. Dance Jimmy baby, Dance!
Long Live the Gods Ricky Moore and Kirk King!!!!
luved this era of college basketball
Great memories... the tee shirts era lol 😂 Hoyas rocking Jays
Rs if you know you know lol
I remember watching this live..such drama..I really miss the big east conference
Still mad at how hard the Hoyas sold this game. Could’ve made the Final Four because they likely avoid UMass in the elite eight.
Ricky Moore played very good D on Iverson.....I still can't believe Iverson only had 13 points in this game!!
I think Allen Iverson said that he was his toughest defender he ever faced (if I'm remember correctly). It's crazy how Iverson scored only 13 points in that game.

Ricky Moore did play good this game though.
Oh so I guess you don't know what defense is...
Solo G Iverson himself said that Ricky Moore was the only guy in college who could guard him. So you're wrong.
he got in early foul trouble
Connecticut earned the #1 overall seed in the 1996 tournament with this win
One of my favorite UConn teams.
Love to Ray Allen and UConn!
Ray Allen vs Allen Iverson (1st meeting)
2nd Meeting (2001 Eastern Conference Finals)
Abel Mehari this is there 5th meeting
Ricky Moore was Iverson's toughest defender because of his foot speed and anticipation.
Uconn used to keep a Israeli on their squad that could ball like a motherfucker. From Nadav Henefield to Scheffer.. Those dudes used to kill Gtown

Kittles, Allen, Lawrence Moten, Iverson etc
Ray Allen and AI weren't themselves this game but it the effort was undeniable when it came to pushing other teammates to step up.
is there any way I can transfer to dvd ?
Victor Page with signature overbite, was just as nice as Iverson

Outside of the 1982 & 1985 Title games, this game has to rank as Gtown's most painful loses. 74-63 lead only to not score from that point on. smh
I do remember a burning type feeling inside anger from playing so well then just to stop playing was brutal
It's not how you start, it's how to finish!!!!!!!!
Is it me or did the Hoyas score more effectively with Iverson sitting?
pinkfloyd5709 prolly because then someone else could actually touch the damn ball
No
Vic was hooping!
I always liked his game for some reason
Geez. Vitale was even more annoying then. Did not know that was possible.
classic one!
So Brad Nessler called NCAA games? Nice.
Not a bad game considering Teddy Valentine was involved.
Doron Sheffer = Tristen Newton of the 1990's. 🙂
SALUTE IVERSON....... HAMPTON VA. #3
Damn Travis Knight yoked on Vick smh
17:35 who else thought that was their phone notification 😂😂
1:17:15 thats a foul
Ray Allen just a damn fucking luck guy. Allen iverson is evrything!
+lier yanchian ... playing such a horrible game and then havin frindly role of the rim :D oh boy ^^
In the end, Mr. damn fucking luck guy has two NBA championships and Mr. everything has zero. Funny how that works, ain't it?
They are both great lmao you're the sports fan I hate. You can't just say one guy is great and you are a fan of him and say the other guy is great as Well.
