My pastor saved my life. He brought me back to my faith in Jesus Christ and God. Ever since, this has been my theme song. Ever since he retired 8 days ago, I have been listening to/singing this song nonstop. It helps me keep strong and helps me to help my church through this transition, because we are all in this together.
This was like the theme song at my Uncle John's celebration of life last July just three weeks before he died from brain cancer. He was actually my great uncle, but I loved him soo much. He was a choir and drama teacher and director at Lancaster Mennonite Highschool. Uncle John, please tell Jesus hi for me and that I can't wait for the day that I come to be with Him.
I was introduced to this song on an Eva Cassidy CD several years ago. She had a powerful voice like an angel. Her recording is the 'Pete Seeger' version with slightly different words in some of the verses. This version that reflects Christ's presence will be sung at my upcoming wedding.
I first heard this hymn at a funeral. It is beautiful. We can give thanks in all things even in the loss of a loved one. We give thanks for a life well lived.
We sang a slightly different version of this at my little brother's christening, nearly 6 and a half years ago, now. I've always loved it, and it brings back so many memories.
This is not only beautiful, it is the only version I've seen on youtube that uses the original words written by Robert Lowery, and not the verse added (to de-Christianize it) by Pete Seeger.
I learned this song like this: My life flows on In endless song Above Earth's la-mentation I hear the real, thought far of hymn, that hails a new Creation No storm can shake my inmost calm While to that rock I'm clinging It sounds and e-cho-o In my soul How can I keep from singing

I hope the message of the hymn, and the beauty of the performance has not been lost because of the artists pronuncation of the word 'tumult'. Is the way Mr. Loynes sang the word the American pronunciation? US presidential canidate Mitt Romney used the same pronounciation of the word in speeches in his bid for election in 2012. (I would say Mr. Loynes is in pretty good company.) But then again, perhaps all the 'grammar' police voted against Mr. Romney because of it?
Go to the James Loynes website, > music, > download music, there you'll find an audiolife Download machine where you can purchase this song for .99 It is also one of the tracks on his CD "How Can I Keep From Singing?" which is available for purchase on his website.
Hang in there my friend. The world is getting darker, but you are alighned with the light and He has promised He will never let you go. Read Hebrews 7:25 Yeshua be with you now and always.
I liked it. Very uplifting, beautiful tune. The rounds at the end seemed forced to me, and they don't flow with the tempo or the vibe of the song, though; I would love to hear if you let the rounds "breathe" a bit (the rounds at 1/2 the speed), because it would allow the other singers (it is a greater a song the greater the group), to stay in their keys longer and find the soul of both the key they are in, but, more importantly, the lyrics they are voicing. It reinforces on multiple levels. Just a suggestion. Good job.

Kudos for being one of only two out of five versions I've heard so far that actually sticks to the original words.
We were singing this to my friend when she passed away last week.
So sorry about your friend. I'm sure hearing the voices of those who loved her joined in song was a great blessing to her.
ElsieBird68 Thank you! I'm just glad to be there, it was her favorite hymn so I'm sure it eased her passing.

I heard this for the first time today and it is very haunting and beautiful and also very sad, but not really sure just why.

The Lord my Saviour liveth... How can I keep from singing?
I first heard this hymn at a funeral. It is beautiful. We can give thanks in all things even in the loss of a loved one. We give thanks for a life well lived.
THANK YOU FOR THE LYRICS. THE IRISH SINGERS DON'T QUITE KEEP TO THE TUNE. THANKS AGAIN, I WILL WRITE THE WORDS & KEEP THEM CLOSE.
We sang a slightly different version of this at my little brother's christening, nearly 6 and a half years ago, now. I've always loved it, and it brings back so many memories.

THANKS for sharing, this is my first time to hear. I repeat it. Besides the Amazing Grace, I love the tune and lyrics.
I love this song. I want it for the last song at my funeral! Our choir sings the song, but a different version.
This is not only beautiful, it is the only version I've seen on youtube that uses the original words written by Robert Lowery, and not the verse added (to de-Christianize it) by Pete Seeger.

I learned this song like this:
My life flows on
In endless song
Above Earth's la-mentation
I hear the real, thought far of hymn, that hails a new
Creation
No storm can shake
my inmost calm
While to that rock
I'm clinging
It sounds and e-cho-o In my soul
How can I keep from singing
That would be awesome.

Just finished listening to this after hearing Eva Cassidy's version. Different, but equally as moving.
my choir song
Hang in there my friend. The world is getting darker, but you are alighned with the light and He has promised He will never let you go. Read Hebrews 7:25
Yeshua be with you now and always.

Hmmm the lyrics of this song is different than the same song us sang in my choir
I'm singing this song in chorus. I have a solo 0 0
U
My choir song tho
This is the correct version. It does not remove Christ from the lyrics. We must keep God in our lives every day.
Amen to that
i have have a solo in this the endles song part up to the tumult and strife is solo two i have part one
maybe if my recording is good. lol my middle school choir is doing it too.
my choir teacher wrote this song ayyee
i love this song and 90geekgirl06 i am really sorry
if heard a story about this song
Secret Garden ripped off this hymn for "You Raise Me Up"!
Have you ever heard a song "Danny Boy"?
taking the religious stuff out sounds better. I'm singing this in my choir class
Not bad. It's a great hymn.
A pity, though, that Mr Loynes doesn't know how to pronounce the word "tumult"!
It's /ˈtjuːmʌlt/, not /ˈtʌmʌlt/.
