  • Over the last few months, I’ve had many people reaching out to me asking for help enlarging their images. I thought it might be helpful to create another video to show how I enlarged this particular image. Keep in mind that every image is different so this technique may not work for your image.
    In this case I received a Photoshop PDF file that had all of the original layers in it. This made the process of enlarging it much easier. Since I had a smart object, I was able to scale the image and not loose quality from the original. After scaling the image to the size I needed, I exported it as a JPG. The JPG file was used for the print.
    If you have any questions about enlarging your images, please leave a comment below.

    Thanks for your instruction but the problem is that as I followed your instructions step by step, at last, the quality was very poor as I enlarged the picture 5 times.
    Anything you suggest?

      Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment! Since this video is pretty old, this is how I would do it now. Start with your original, open it in Photoshop. Then go to the 'Image' menu, then 'Image Size'. Input the width and height you want and a resolution of 300 pixels/inch. Then check on Resample and select 'Preserve Details 2.0'. Then also increase the 'Reduce Noise' slider to help clean up the image. That should get you the size you want. Then you may have to do other things to help clean it up more, but that's where I'd start. If you have trouble, feel free to email the file to me with the size you want to make it and I'll see what I can do.
      Best of luck and thanks again for checking out the video! 😁👍

    Jason, this is a great video. I'm trying to do this, but when i do this some items don't resize correctly and look stretched or disproportioned. do you know how I can fix this?
    thanks

      If you hold the shift key while you transform and scale the image it will keep the proportions the same. Also if you add in the option key, it will scale the image while holding the base point at the middle of the image. Hope this helps!

    Hello There. I have to print an image of size 122 cm x 135 cm image and used 300 px resolution for that image. But I found that My file size was very large. How to minimize my file size? .. Should i need to minimize my resolution for larger image?? Please help me.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rajeeve - You can try reducing your file image resolution size to 150 pixels per inch. It should still give you a high quality print. Since it's a large print and generally there is a little viewing distance to it, it's ok to go lower with the pixels per inch. I wouldn't recommend going lower than 150ppi. Also make sure you are saving it as a .jpg with the maximum quality setting. You can make these changes right in Photoshop by going to the the menu Image -->Image Size --> and adjust the resolution to 150 pixels/inch. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

    What is the minimum MP an image should be to enlarge it to any size

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how big you want to make it and what it's starting size is.....

    • @25narmadha
      @25narmadha ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonYadlovski if say for example the starting size is 3Megapixels and you want a poster size(a big one) is it any possible?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use some of the tools in photoshop to help scale it up, but it’s not going to look ‘sharp’ if it was only 3 megapixels when you started. Here’s a webpage that might help: design215.com/toolbox/megapixels.php

    Excellent video and very easy to follow (and how you work with settings in Photoshop is very clear and intuitive). Thanks. I am CREATING a poster in Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator), and have a Photoshop raster file, and want to add crisp text for poster. Can I use Photoshop for text or do I have to open the PSD file in Illustrator for text? IS PDF the best format for the printer to make the poster? Thanks!

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scott - Thanks for the kind words. You can certainly add the text in Photoshop. There are many ways you can change, modify and manipulate text so it can appear how ever you'd like it to. I would say give it a shot in photoshop and see if it works out for you. Saves you the trouble of going back an forth between programs. Hope this help! Thanks for watching!

    Hello! rather than a photo I took. I created a print with just words on photoshop that I am wanting to print as a poster to hang over my couch. The issue I'm having is when I go to print through Walgreens or other online printing sites it won't allow me to upload a pdf and when I save it as a jpg the printing sites are unable to upload my photos. I'm not sure how to do sizing and resolution to be able to print it as a poster and for it to not be blurry.. please help! thank you

      delphotobroome1 thanks for checking out the video! I’m not familiar with CS3, but there should be a similar way to do it there. Try looking in the menus in a similar location.

      Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! I would create a new file the size you wanted to print, then insert a linked copy of your image, scaling or cropping to part you want to print.

    What if I just have a PDF in A4, can I stick it in photohop and enlarge it and keep the quality? Could you do a tutorial blowing something up from Canva? I'm not much of a graphic designer so I'm using it for my etsy shop digital downloads and I want to make sure my customers get good quality when they go in to walmart, cotsco, etc.. to print in various sizes. Thanks!

      @JasonYadlovski  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! I'm not very familiar with Canva, but you should be able to enlarge the PDF and get a quality that is good enough to print. This video is a few years old now and Photoshop has gotten better at enlarging images. You could try enlarging it using On1 Resize - I find that program works well too. If you have trouble enlarging it, feel free to email it to me and I can take a look at it for you. Thanks!

    Great video Jason.Been wanting to enlarge my photos from my digital camera 12mp.Set it to highest / largest setting, and took photos of my artwork to hopefully be blown up to maybe 40 x 30 inches.The company here in the UK (Truprint) said that the photos hadn't enough pixels, even for a 30 x 20 inch poster.So had to settle for the 16 x 12 inches prints.Oddly, one of the photos I sent did make it for the 30 x 20 inches print, and yet it's same camera, same setting, and more or less same little bit of cropping I did on the photos!I thought maybe a scanner would boost the size if I printed one of the photos myself??

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It could be that the print company requires a certain number of pixels per inch for their prints. For smaller prints, you want to be around 240 ppi - 300 ppi. Larger prints can be less because you don't view them from as close. Check to see how many pixels per inch your image is when you enlarge it to the size you want. Ask the print company what they require for an image the size you want to print. Hope this helps!

    hi, how did you get that reduce noise slide? it does not appear in my image size venster

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John - Thanks for watching! Make sure that you have the 'Resample' box checked and you have 'Preserve Details (enlargement)' selected. Then you should see the noise reduction slider. If you have a different option selected, you will not see the noise reduction slider. Hope this helps!

    • @jjcsoulman67
      @jjcsoulman67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks it sure helps. Only thing is that the picture is out of focus.
      Different then what you showed. I will try it again.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe try lowering the amount of noise reduction if the image becomes too out of focus. There might be a balance between the amount of noise reduction and keeping the image in focus. Best of luck!
