I’m at retirement age but learning new stuff keeps me young. Thanks to your videos my wife says I’m now young enough to work another 10 years. If anyone needs me I’ll be out looking for stupid videos to counteract these…
Great video Rob. Thanks for sharing the mechanical details that go into a TF car. Its impressive to me how you guys can get all that stuff to work together repeatedly in a small window of error.
It makes me so happy that you’re able to put some of these videos out again!!! This is always one of my favorite TH-cam channels and really taught me stuff that I never learned or reminds me of stuff I used to do on the cars!! Excellent excellent excellent :)
Another great video. It's amazing all the details to run for less than 4 seconds. I wish that I was 50 years younger. I might have taken interest in going on the road for a summer or two before I got married.
Such a great learning experience. Thanks this will really help people understand and become fascinated with the sport. Nhra needs this to prevent becoming dinosaurs.
This is the best video I have ever seen, showing all of the pieces and parts in building a current fuel car. COOL, and please keep them coming. By the way, good boy, I noticed there are still some M&Ms left.
Thank you very much for these videos. I noticed the wire looms are not labeled. Are all of the end connections different? How do you tell what is what? Thanks, Great Stuff. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR!!!!! Mike
My uncle took me to a NHRA race in Columbus Ohio when I was 13-14 years old and just getting into cars. My mind was completely blown, I couldn't understand how these machines were possible. 20 something years and a few races later I'm still in awe of them. Thanks for sharing, I love getting into the weeds on technical stuff. Great stuff man!
Rob, thanks for doing what you do, and sharing your knowledge. Can you touch on what gets soldered vs crimped? There’s always a debate on that, and wanted your take on it.
@@robwendlandThanks for the follow-through in part 4 on soldering, I appreciate your knowledge on this. You’re great about answering everyone’s questions, keep it up!
I know that you "only" go in a straight line but doesn't having the wheels staggered strange to steer ? And does that 2 inches give any significant time difference ?
Yes, we have a harness for each sub, whether it be safety timer control or regulators assemblies. So in the heat of the moment we can get things switched out pretty fast.
@ thanks you for the answer in top fuel car i followed two channels your for the tech and clay mulligan channel.do you still take care of Dan Mercier car
7:11 I suppose you know you can get a fire bottle that is discharged by flicking a switch (though having seen a fire go off by 'accident' when supposedly being system tested, I prefer a cable pull. However, I would expect it ought to be possible to re-engineer the electrics of a flick switch fire bottle to one that you can remotely fire along with all the other things you can do remotely.
Thanks Rob this is going to be another good series. Your audio has been pretty distorted on part 1 and 2 of this series, hasn't been on prior ones. FYI
You have no idea how many of us older drag racing lovers appreciate this- the detail is the best I've ever seen . But, at this rate, who is going to pay for it? Sponsors are vaporizing, costs are going up, (seen the grandstands at pomona lately? Wasn't that long ago they would be packed in the place where it all started!) Keep the safety standards in place, but somehow go back to just actually letting the clutch out, and go, without needing the Skunk Works. Not to mention NHRA (or someone) might want to consider building a new drag strip in So.Cal. and going back to 1/4 mile before it all becomes extinct. Sorry for the rant, but San Fernando, Lions, Irwindale, Orange County, etc. and NEVER any effort from NHRA for a replacement. People getting bored seeing 1000 foot racing and cookie cutter cars...
Yes sir, we are a dying bread. If you go to a high school these days, there might be one hotrod. In our days the place was loaded! California wants to ban regular gas. Tough times but we can do better.
Didn't mean to sound like a grouchy boomer, but someone in the NHRA /IHRA has to at least try something to get drag racing in the public eye again...just start out with a plain old asphalt strip in the high/low desert of So.Cal. ( with a mother of all shut down areas) and then go to concrete, bigger grandstands, etc. as things improve. Even when i was a kid in the '60's other kids who might not have been interested in drag racing needless to say were aware about it whether it be radio spots or magazines or model cars. Now, you mention drag racing to people young or old, basically blank stares.. Rant over. Excellent channel!
Yep, it’s a common problem as we all get older is trying to introduce young people to the sport, but it’s also like playing checkers…. Who the hell plays checkers anymore?
I really appreciate Your videos Rob. I learn so much every time.
Thanks for sharing the inside information on what each component is, who makes them, and what they all do. Very enlightening.
You bet, I'm always happy to share the knowledge.
I appreciate the time You spend on these videos Rob. Thank You and Best Wishes !

Glad to be back!
Thanks for the video !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Rob. Thanks for sharing the mechanical details that go into a TF car. Its impressive to me how you guys can get all that stuff to work together repeatedly in a small window of error.
You bet! It's a lot of work to get things to work together right.
I love the fact the fuel line needs to be as big as the driveshaft. 🙂
That’s funny!!! Love it
It makes me so happy that you’re able to put some of these videos out again!!! This is always one of my favorite TH-cam channels and really taught me stuff that I never learned or reminds me of stuff I used to do on the cars!!
Excellent excellent excellent :)
Glad to hear it! I'm working on getting the whole series back out there.
Please keep them coming as I learn new stuff every time I watch. Thanks so much!

You bet Mike, glad you enjoyed it!

Rob, top notch as always.
Thanks for taking the time to show us.
👍👍
So awesome
Welcome back Rob! Love your dry humor!
Thanks! You should see me with some beer in me…
I am waiting now for part 3🥰
Coming up!
The shop is spotless, like an operating room.
There are many days it is not🤣
Thank You so much for taking the time to show all that goes into one of these top fuel cars 👍
You bet, there's a lot of work that goes into it!
Thank you for making these. I love learning how these machines are built and maintained. I have watched the "Lets Front Half..." series five times.
You bet!
Such a great learning experience. Thanks this will really help people understand and become fascinated with the sport.
Nhra needs this to prevent becoming dinosaurs.
Glad to help bring the sport to a wider audience!
Thank you again
You bet! Glad you’re enjoying it!
Your explaining all these systems is totally badass and you leave nothing out. Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge bro!!
I appreciate that!
Another awesome video Rob. 👍🏼
I can't wait for the part 3 🥰🥰
These cars are so advanced , so much info for a sub 4 second run.
You bet! They are amazing machines.
This is the best video I have ever seen, showing all of the pieces and parts in building a current fuel car. COOL, and please keep them coming. By the way, good boy, I noticed there are still some M&Ms left.
🤣
Thank you very much for these videos. I noticed the wire looms are not labeled. Are all of the end connections different? How do you tell what is what? Thanks, Great Stuff. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR!!!!! Mike
Most are where the connection counts. But the components are labeled as well. Many of the connections are the same.
This is the best drag racing insight videos ever . Thank you
I really appreciate the kind words!
Love the Channel. Need to change ur Microphone. It really sounds funny. I think it would help alot.
But very awesome what ur sharing.
Yeah, the audio is a little rough on this one!
Amazing information and greatly appreciated. I thought I heard you say " all in one valve " .... what is that? Many thanks.
That is correct. It’s the accelerator pump, start line fuel selector, and regulator all in one! Don Jackson invention!
My uncle took me to a NHRA race in Columbus Ohio when I was 13-14 years old and just getting into cars. My mind was completely blown, I couldn't understand how these machines were possible. 20 something years and a few races later I'm still in awe of them. I remember my first race too, those things are wild!
Once you hear that nitro sound you're hooked.
The best ! ❤
Keep making videos. Great resource. Looking forward to seeing you in Tulsa @ CATS.
Right on! It will be a good time!
I learn at least a little something from all your videos, the knowledge and insight is appreciated.
Glad to hear it!
Rob; Could you explain what the two forward facing prods on the roll cage (at drivers eye level?) are for please? On all cars but what do they do?
Handles for the driver To pull himself up out of the cockpit
Protects the windscreen when getting in and out of the car.
@robwendland I knew I was close LOL Charge on sir best of wishes to the team this year
Another great video . Man there is a lot to completing a racecar . At what point do you make spare cables and air lines ?
As we go along but in the heat of the moment, extra lines are ran outside. Maybe even around the driver🤣 if need be!
Rob, thanks for doing what you do, and sharing your knowledge. Can you touch on what gets soldered vs crimped? There’s always a debate on that, and wanted your take on it.
Sounds like a video !!!! I’m on it
@@robwendlandThanks for the follow-through in part 4 on soldering, I appreciate your knowledge on this. You’re great about answering everyone’s questions, keep it up!
Love the videos Rob! Beautiful new car! Did I hear you say in the last one that Lucas is getting out of the chassis business?
They are out of the business.
1080p video/0.5p audio lol. You and Bobby Cardoza need to write a book!! This is genius info.
Yeah, the audio is tough on this one. We had a hot mic.
Rob, I love your videos. When you talk about the onboard air system, is it powered by a compressor or an air bottle of some sort? Thanks!
C02 liquid bottle. BradCO2 is our guy! He is a blessing to our team!
Enjoy the content..
I remember when there was just stainless steel saddles and hose clamps holding the engine in on the front side.
Those days are long gone.
I know that you "only" go in a straight line but doesn't having the wheels staggered strange to steer ? And does that 2 inches give any significant time difference ?
Steering no. But yes, it’s the difference in .015 seconds
Thank you for the part 2😊
The front of the trailer looks like it's not headed to the door. How do you get it out?
Back that girl up!
Does the left front wheel have a bunch of preload in it or is it just camera angle?
Camera for sure
Any idea what the wires, lines, fittings, connectors, etc. weigh all together? I know it's necessary, but it sure looks heavy.
25 to 30 lbs I bet!
Sure hope the magic smoke doesn't get let out. It is tough to get in again.
🤣🤣🔥
is the blue you use on the fram pipe regular gun cold blue ??
Birchwood liquid gun blue
@@robwendland thanks
How modular are your wiring and air systems? Do you keep many subassemblies in the truck?
Yes, we have a harness for each sub, whether it be safety timer control or regulators assemblies. So in the heat of the moment we can get things switched out pretty fast.
Question rob do you have à batterie to all the electronics stuff or is the motor if you have a battery we’re you located thanks for the answer
We run an RC battery. 14.4 volts I believe lipo
@ thanks you for the answer in top fuel car i followed two channels your for the tech and clay mulligan channel.do you still take care of Dan Mercier car
I used to work for Bimba Mfg in University Park Illinois back in the late 80's early 90's
Awesome. They have been in racing a long time and didn’t even know it 🤣

Rob, what bluing do you use on the chassis ? Thanks Hutch
I’ll let you know tomorrow. Comes from McMaster Carr

is it his mic, or my speakers? sounds distorted? I'm into theses type of videos
Seems like the mic volume is turned up into clipping then another volume controll turned down to reduce overall volume.
We are on it. These are all one take videos!
Thanks Rob this is going to be another good series.
Your audio has been pretty distorted on part 1 and 2 of this series, hasn't been on prior ones. FYI
We have it now! Thank you
I pick up a minimum of 10 things every vid and I've been a gearhead for 45 years and a mechanic for 35.
Right on! Glad to hear it!
Great video!
Friendly suggestion... something is less than ideal with your audio.
We’ll get it dialed in for part three!
Great look at how you put it together , also your mic needs adjustment its too close to you
Thanks! We have it dialed in for part three.

I’m getting bad audio in this video. I anyone else?
Yeah, we had a hot mic, but we have fixed it. Hang on for part three
Thanks for the video. But I’m sorry to say the audio is terrible.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll check the recording and see what we can do better for next time.
You need to muff your microphone. To loud and its screeching. Keep up the good work
We have a hot mic! But we are working on it
Sound is fubared
Yeah, that way you know it’s real and one take
yeah nice and interesting but the mic is really bad

This guy builds dragsters and don't know the difference between an electric motor and an internal combustion engine.
