      Yeah, I hear you on this. One thing I get asked a lot is to do adventure recaps, and I think as I get through the last few Inner Sea region deep dives (so probably still a few months out, just to set expectations), I'll start doing that. I'm thinking of calling it Pathfinder 616 (like Marvel's 616 universe) and making it a recap of my own personal instance of the Pathfinder world, starting with a summary of the events of my own Curse of the Crimson Throne game. Transparently this may end up being even more work than the deep dives as I'll have to dig up all my old notes and the re-read all the APs, but it could end up being really cool.

    In my home campaign setting, in the one major city the PCs visit, that city is at war with a necropolis. Roughly a hundred years ago the city was ruled by bickering noble houses whose in-fighting was causing the city to lose the war. In desperation, they used all their resources to gate in a Marut to battle the necropolis for them. Once he arrived, he deemed he could not defend the Necropolis on his own so he displaced the noble houses and made himself king until the war is over. It’s been a century and the necropolis still stands.

    Some moments of this video were giving me Ultron/Robocop/Terminator vibes, in particular Inevitables enforcing contracts regardless of the terms, suppressing all rebellions, or making sure criminals are punished regardless of context/ethics. I get the sense that Axiomites and Aphorites are the engineers, artists and scientists of order who would ideally prefer to be left to create, discover, and catalogue. After watching this video it appears they created Inevitables to handle the militant and enforcement duties that were required. Inevitables appear to embody order taken to an extreme of legality and logic. A Protean would strive to see all organized systems of governments/organizations toppled even if they improved lives, and an Inevitable would work to preserve them if they didn't. They are opposites on the cosmic scales as it were. I like that it's specifically mentioned that Inevitables aren't mindless or completely opposed to negotiation since that helps keep them away from "Lawful Stupid". I will say I still got the sense they are single-minded and nearly impossible to meaningfully deflect from their decisions and goals (as is the case with many outsiders due to Pharasma's philosophical sorting of souls/quintessence).
    Speaking of cosmic balance: given how enamored I was with them, it's no surprise I find myself preferring the Aeons (as in the non-Axiomite/Aphorite creatures in the 1st of these 2 videos). Inevitables seek to combat chaos or unlawfulness in all instances whereas Aeons seem to account for and work with them. E.g. you have the Paracletus Aeons that maintain balance between logic AND passion, embodying all mental states instead of only orderly thought. I think Aeons could be more accurately described as Balanced than Orderly/Lawful given that their worldview is far more inclusive than just law. As best as I can understand, Aeons acknowledge and maintain reality as it truly exists (which provably includes law, chaos, and many other philosophies). Thus they don't back a side but rather strive for balance among opposing forces like logic and emotion, knowledge and ignorance, magic and technology and so on. To me it's an interesting thought that part of the cosmic rulebook for a functional reality protected by The Monad and Aeons is that some portions of reality won't predictably follow the rules. Rule 1: there are no universal rules (except this one, and maybe not even this one).
    Finally, I noticed how similar Inevitables are to Androids (as described in your Constructs Creature Feature). Both are intelligent, self-determining souls housed in manufactured bodies and seem to share similar characteristics like being healed by positive energy. The difference seems to be in the proportion of science and magic during creation with Inevitables being more organic/magical a la most outsiders whereas Androids are almost purely technological. I get the sense that Androids are far more variable philosophically - is this is because Inevitables are outsiders (aka sorted soulstuff) whereas Androids are unsorted? It would be interesting to know how the two groups would view each other, and whether they would feel a kinship based on similarities or animosity based on differences.
    Thanks as always for your work!

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Robocops of the Heavens is totally the right vibe for the Inevitables. I think Ultron and Terminator maybe are a little too homicidal, but that's me. Axiomite/Aphorites and Inevitables are definitely on the same side of the coin here, but the classic Aeons are doing something very different. As you point out, they're not really about Law, they're about eternity, cosmic continuity and balance - and yes, that in fact necessitates some chaos in there as well. They created the Axiomites and the Inevitables to serve as a counter-balancing force against the Proteans, but I do think there are circumstances where they would side against the Axiomites and the Inevitables. Its more complex than the LN alignment given to them in 2E expresses for sure.
      The main difference between Inevitables and Androids is basically what you pointed. Inevitables are post-mortal outsides, Androids are mortal. Its weird to think of a machine as being mortal, but they definitely are. Their souls start a blank slate and they won't be judged in Pharasma's court until they expire. Also "judged" is totally the wrong word. When Pharasma "judges" souls she's actually just sorting them. So souls that become Inevitables have been assigned to their role because that spirit has already acquired a Lawful perspective in its lived life. All Inevitables have a Lawful demeanor in a sense, because Pharasma sorted them all together.
      As unsorted, unjudged mortal souls, Androids have a completely free range of dispositions and attitudes. Apart from this, they're pretty conceptually similar.

      @@TheMythKeeper After your video I watched an interview with Karl Urban who played Judge Dredd (who I completely forgot about) in 2012. He said he liked acting out the duality of the character as both lawful savior and dictatorial enforcer, and that sounded familiar. "I am the law!" has never been so applicable as a catchphrase. "As in literally the embodiment of the multiversal concept."
      It's cool that I got close to the truth of Androids vs. Inevitables, but your clarification about Androids being mortal souls clears things up.
      I watched your Numeria video today to see what you have said previously about Androids. It's surreal how certain aspects were really personally applicable and it's so perfect I want to mention it. It's a crazy story but in 2019-2020 I actually had months worth of memory-erasing seizures because of an old snowboarding head injury and as such have total amnesia about my life before age 39 (don't worry, they found an anti-seizure med that fixed it so I am now approaching 4 years of memories with zero seizures). The memory I lost was specifically episodic as opposed to semantic (stored in different areas of the brain), meaning that for instance I knew how to read/write but forgot ever having gone to school. Why it matters in this conversation is that for years now I've described it like waking up in an adult body, in those words. So I can relate in a way most people will probably never have to. For several months I worked with a neurologist, psychiatrist, and those close to me. I had to re-meet my family and friends as if for the first time, learn about social norms, what kind of person I'd been, and basically how to live in an adult body - no word a lie. I've had strange moments like listening to my friendly hairdresser tell me stories about how much I enjoyed a vacation in the Bahamas I don't remember taking. A few months ago I was talking to my buddy about concerts and found out I've been to about a dozen of them and just don't remember. Sadly my Android-esque reboot does not include an ageless, disease-resistant body, which is a grievance I'll have to bring up with whoever it turns out is running the joint lol.
      With that personal exposition done, as always I genuinely appreciate the time you take to read and reply to posts. Please don't worry I'll feel angry or disappointed if you don't respond to this or any other comment, but know I do enjoy our chats since I find your content and additions quite engaging.

      @@ColinGrym You have an incredible story, thanks for sharing. I've never had a memory erasing seizure, but as I get older, the early parts of my life are fading fast. I really struggle to remember anything that actually happened to me before college. Most of high school and elementary school are a complete blur. I also traveled a lot growing up, so I lived in many different homes, most of which I can't remember. Sometimes I'll look at an old photo and I'll get a flood of memories, which is pretty wild, but for the most part, I feel like those experiences largely happened to a different person.
      There are times I meet young people (especially depressed young people in High School), and they think that what's happening to them in that moment (a breakup usually, or being bullied) is the most important thing in the world, and you kind of want to tell them - just wait, your life has only just begun and in 20 years you won't remember any of this anyway. I'm not sure if that would help at all, tbh? But memory is wild thing. It feels like it defines you until it doesn't, and then you realize you're still you, with or without it - and its something else that defines you.
      Anyway - if you get a chance to play an Android PC in a Pathfinder game you should do it. Could be fun or cathartic for you ;-)

    Hey, great video, Pathfinder is such a huge media that it's great to have resumes of lore points. You used a lot of Magic the gathering illustrations in this video, I suppose because of a lack of official ones. Maybe it would be better to mention it when it's the case, so the viewers could know when it's not official designs ?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its a good suggestion and a fair ask. I must admit I decided very early on (around my Varisia video) that I would just approximate art when it wasn't available because there's more lore than there is representative art for it. I started down the path of trying to credit and source the art, but if basically proved to be pretty overwhelming and I gave up. Since then I have sourced heavily from pinterest, artstation, deviantart, game concept art and mtg art as well and I just hope my viewers can recognize the Paizo house style and make those determinations themselves.
