We walk around Westward Ho! It was a bitterly cold day, and we were shivering at some points when the wind blew!!! Westward Ho! is located on the west coast of North Devon and is a small seaside town named after Charles Kingsley story! The sites below will give you lots more information if you are interested, if not just enjoy the walk around with us.

I suspect your definition of "bitterly cold" is a LOT harsher than my Southern U.S. definition! LOL!!!

Hi, yes a lovely place to retire to, but I often say to people, don't buy straight away try renting somewhere for a few months in the worst part of the year, winter! When it's cold and damp and never quite snows and the wind knocks you off your feet on the beaches lol THEN, bear in mind that from April to October the caravan parks open and the country lanes are full of people who can't reverse - so learn to reverse a car in absolutely no space at all because believe me you will be the one having to reverse into a hedge! All local cars have what is called Devon Rash down the near side doors!!!! PLUS, not only does it then get horrendously busy for the summer holidays, but also lots of people come into North Devon to get married! Would I go back and live there (currently out of county) knowing all this? Yes! But I do know a lot of people who have moved in, don't like how different it is to when they were there on holiday, and moved out. So, as I said at the beginning try a rental, sometimes in the winter you can get long term holiday lets for 3-6 months and you can wangle a decent price too as the places will stand empty! As for Kite surging, yes they do that and sometimes I believe it's also on Saunton Sands as that beach is really big too, it's where they filmed the plane landing in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie - you can actually see Westward Ho! in the background. Hope I haven't waffled on too much, Callie xx
