United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ส.ค. 2018
Diaries of a vintage loving mum in rural England. Most of my travels are with my teenage daughter and a few friends who join us along the way.
So what's on this channel:-
- UK stately homes and buildings.
- Town Walks.
- Slow living in England - taking life at a more gentle pace.
- A few older videos of my horses & farm life.
- Seasonal visits to places of interest, especially at Christmas - who doesn't love a bit of traditional Christmas?
- Walk-throughs of an interactive online advent calendar - requested by a number of people each year.
Thanks for watching

I still love this calendar! Anyone else?
Beautiful.
How much does the entrance cost? I would like to visit that place when I visit England.
A beautiful final walk-through of this year's Advent Calendar; many thanks for posting it on your channel, Callie. I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas Day and are looking forward to a great holiday season and a Happy New Year! With very best wishes from Oxford. 🙂
Hi, thank you for your lovely comment and I am so pleased you enjoyed all the walkthroughs. Happy New Year and have a great 2025. Callie x
@@CalliesDiaries 🌲🕯
The tremendous level of detail in this year's calendar is phenomenal (even the toy train in the apartment passes in front of the bow on the tree but behind the miniature ladder). The overall impression of the panorama of Paris reminds me of the early Disney Studio animations that used a multiplane camera to move scenic elements laterally, relative to each other; the entire project must have taken months! I trust it was complete in good time to be sold early, 'though these calendars do, of course, have a timeless quality. Many thanks for sharing their beauty with us via TH-cam; I hope you and everyone involved has a wonderful Christmas! With best wishes from Oxford. ⛪ 🍷 🎂 🌟
I agree with you about the attention to detail. Even when I look back at the original first calendar which I think I recorded by haven't added here yet, I will have to take a look and see if it's reasonable as back in the day I had to record off screen, so a camera pointed at the screen from my desk, which ended up picking up strange affects. The calendars go onto the JL site for purchase around November. Although this year you could also purchase last years or play it again as it could be reset if you enjoyed it, which I think was a great idea. I wonder where we will see next see. Paris was obviously after the Olympics this year, last year was the anniversary of the original Edwardian house. Maybe by the seaside again? Skiing in the Alps would be fun! I imagine they are already working on it a year or two in advance! Thanks for watching, my next vlog will probably be me playing all the games as someone has requested that and then they will be back to castles, stately homes or days out if that is of interest to you. Have a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for the Coming Year from Leicestershire!
@@CalliesDiaries I hope you and yours, too, have a very happy Christmas and a great New Year. With best wishes from Oxford! 🥂 🎂 😃
Another great development of this year's calendar! Beautiful, as always - and so pleased to see your detailed description of Notre Dame. ('Loved the can-can from the "Folies BEARgère", btw!)
Hi everyone, just wandering how you are all getting on with the new games? Must admit I ended up playing the "Create Santas" game far too many times. Has anyone managed to make any Santas yet? I just can't get passed one or two reindeer! What about Boules, or Petanque? Let me know what you think is the best bit(s) so far! Much love, Callie xx
I am current on the days, but today, the 18th, I cannot find the Santa at all! He's hiding too well.
This was a tough one. He's a cloud in the sky!
If you click on the santa hat top right you can scroll through the days you have already found and get a hint where to look for him!
Wonderful...my most favourite scientist sir issac newton.
Thank you for commenting and I am pleased you enjoyed the look at his home and of course him. He was amazing!
I buy myself these every year, they are very special. However, this year's one set in Paris has so far not felt quite so special , which is a shame. Maybe it's just the venue choice ( 2024 Olympics ) cough...... rolls eyes....
Sorry to read you haven't enjoyed it so much. Did it get better for you as the days rolled on?
A beautiful Advent calendar. Thank you from Oxford UK.

What is a Cochannet game?
Has anyone been able to make it dark in the apartment? I like it when it's dark and you have the lights, but it seems you can't turn the main room lights off..does that make sense?
I will look at night as I am assuming if anything can be done it will be when it's dark outside! Today it's snowing!
Hi, I have taken a look and I can't see a way of making it dark. What might be a great idea is to actually email Jacquie Lawson via their website and ask if there is a way of building this into the apartment for next year. I am sure they would love to hear feedback.
Yes, I too would encourage folks to submitted suggestions: I've submitted a couple of suggestions via their IG page and JL seems very receptive 😊@CalliesDiaries
@@BohemianWomanRising HI, thanks for the comment, that's really great to know.
Hiya, just noticed the apartment dark feature is now working 😊
The streets are so empty so the atmosphere is dead .... I hope it will become more lively by the time December starts??
This is always the same when it's a street scene, everything kicks into place on 1st of December.
Frustrated cannot find santa . Some games difficult to work out and i miss the little extras animals that popped out or moved , smoke from chimneys .clock and ball on a balcony is the only thing i have found to react ..Not nearly as good as previous years . Wont be buying it next year
@@lynnluck8021 Each year has always been very different. Which Santa can't you find? They are all there as I don't touch my copy of the Calendar and once you find one, the next appears. On my new video here: th-cam.com/video/dV3aTnFd12E/w-d-xo.html I do a week one walkthrough and you can see where all the Santas appear. I am working out the new games myself, which I should be able to record. Why don't you email the Jacquie Lawson team with the things you miss, perhaps as they are building the next 2-3 years calendars they will add things back in.
Well, here we are - another year and another Jacquie Lawson Advent calendar. Nice to see you again and I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

In the 1600s he lived better than most humans do today. It's not necessary but it does help when the environment is conducive to learning . British Empire was the world's most powerful empire and quality of life was highest in the world.
Hello, I work for tvN, a Korean broadcaster. We would like to use your videos in our history show. In this episode, we're preparing for Newton. We would like to show viewers Lincolnshire, England, a travel destination related to Newton. Could you please let me know if I can use an excerpt to give credit to your channel? Thank you :)
Just wonderful. You really have to got an appreciation of history and the arts to appreciate these fine homes. They are so much more pleasing to my eyes than all these modern over done homes today. But its a matter of preference
Through this video, I made the great attachment with Isaac Newton's personal history 😅😅😅
That's great news! I am so pleased you enjoyed it!
@@CalliesDiaries Yes,👍 Well I'm very confused about Newton vs Einstein for over 2 weeks, can you help me to know who is greater? I have to choose my favourite physicist among them
@@PrinceSarraf0314 Hmmm, 🤔 to be honest they are both as great as each other. One discovers gravity and the other in the future does more with the theory and science as it's developed. So both really are great men. Personally I think they are both equal to each other, when you have to personally choose your favourite then it's down to what you think in your research and any argument you wish to make in support of that person. This link gives a 'Versus' each other which may help - decide for yourself which one you feel is important and why. Because it's your opinion it can never be wrong as far as I am concerned: www.skyatnightmagazine.com/space-science/newton-einstein-gravity Keep me informed on how you feel through your research. C xx
You are so great who gave me the best explanation ever about this concern. I'm going to be a physicist, The Einstein field equation of general relativity and Newton's equation of gravity both captivated me very much, both are the best explanation of gravity in their own era. Well that's great you support me, I want to choose only one of these two towering figures. So at all, thanks a lot 🙏🙏
Well what I think deeply about them is Einstein's theory of gravity was more open minded and charismatic than Newton's. Einstein revolutionized the 2000 year-old idea of Aristotle and Plato that time and space are absolute. After intense research and deep intuition, I believe Newton's theory was the greatest revolution in its own era but for all time, not more than Einstein's theory. So in the context of ranking for me, if Newton ranked 1 then Einstein should be ranked 0.999999999999999999.
Nice place to retire too? Plus I kitesurf which I know they do there
Hi, yes a lovely place to retire to, but I often say to people, don't buy straight away try renting somewhere for a few months in the worst part of the year, winter! When it's cold and damp and never quite snows and the wind knocks you off your feet on the beaches lol THEN, bear in mind that from April to October the caravan parks open and the country lanes are full of people who can't reverse - so learn to reverse a car in absolutely no space at all because believe me you will be the one having to reverse into a hedge! All local cars have what is called Devon Rash down the near side doors!!!! PLUS, not only does it then get horrendously busy for the summer holidays, but also lots of people come into North Devon to get married! Would I go back and live there (currently out of county) knowing all this? Yes! But I do know a lot of people who have moved in, don't like how different it is to when they were there on holiday, and moved out. So, as I said at the beginning try a rental, sometimes in the winter you can get long term holiday lets for 3-6 months and you can wangle a decent price too as the places will stand empty! As for Kite surging, yes they do that and sometimes I believe it's also on Saunton Sands as that beach is really big too, it's where they filmed the plane landing in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie - you can actually see Westward Ho! in the background. Hope I haven't waffled on too much, Callie xx
I love his list of sins
Witnessing something unreal!
Very well filmed and much enjoyed. Thank you.
You are most welcome and I am pleased you enjoyed it.
Is this the actual house or is it just a remake
it's THE house!
Thanks for the video. I'm a little bit confused about the apple tree. I looked them up, and they have a lifespan of up to just 50 years; does it regrow from its roots or something?
I have owned apple trees well over 50 years old. There are some in the South West of England that are incredibly old. Perhaps this link will help: www.ancienttreeforum.org.uk/ancient-trees/ancient-tree-sites-to-visit/midlands/woolsthorpe-manor-lincolnshire/#:~:text=We%20are%20pretty%20certain%20that,itself%20and%20still%20produces%20apples.

I have them in a few branches of my genealogical tree, it's surprisingly modest considering the importance of the family in the English history, comparing it with the Brudenell family a newcomers considering history
This weekend , we visited this house and although the house was completely concealed by scaffolding we were really only able to visit two rooms of any significance , that was our lot ! everything else was either a storeage area or out of bounds . I am sorry but I just didnt "Get " the house at all . By that , I mean that my imagination just could not place me in the house when t was in its hey day . Not may places do , although Hartlebury Castle does , and so does the SS Great Britain at Bristol but sadly , far too many of these historical houses are without purpose today and do not educate as well as could do with the symathetic use of technology sensibly applied as in the SS Great Britains case . We wont be visiting again as there is nothing to see to fire any imagination of living at the house either virtual or real . I suggest the curators visit the Great Britain at Bristol or Hartlebury castle and see just what can be done .
That's so sad you had this experience. The house is owned by the National Trust, but the family still live in half of it and also it's closed for 6 months of the year when the family use all the house. It's only open for short periods. As you can see from my vlog when we visited we saw all the open spaces available. Sounds to me as if some large scale work is being done. Most houses close over the winter for curator work! I have never found a house not to educate anyone, because that is what the volunteers are there for in nearly every room to tell the stories of the houses. Having visited many over the years I have never found a house empty of volunteers whose enthusiasm for the house is wonderful. Even the gardeners have stopped to talk to me in the past about their work! It's such a shame Coughton is under scaffolding. Did you speak to anyone at the house about it or at the gate house on entry? Perhaps contact them and leave them feedback.
We visited here quite a few years ago
It's a lovely place, I would really like to go back and see the gardens at different times of the year.

I'm still trying to squeeze the last drop of Christmas out of the season, so many thanks for this accelerated Advent calendar! A very Happy 2024! 😉
Hey! Many thanks and happy 2024 to you too! I am still squeezing, I have just found two old JL calendars not on here so am trying to get them uploaded asap so I don’t annoy anyone who’s done with Christmas!! 🤦🏼♀️.
@@CalliesDiariesWell, strictly speaking, we have 'til Twelfth Night (three more days)!
@@williamevans9426 Kindof! I am actually Pagan and have been for40 years, so my 12 days of Christmas start on 20th of December and finish on 31st, the old ways! But, these days I just about go with anything to extend the Holiday season a bit longer! 😀
@@CalliesDiaries Ah, the yuletide season. I hope you've retained a fragment of the log to kindle this year's blaze when it comes around!
Absolutely, along with all the 12 days or merriment that take place - always fun! @@williamevans9426
Hi all, I am just about to upload the 2013 Edwardian Calendar, which I have been asked for a few times, but my poor old laptop that it was on wasn't participating! I have managed to get it sorted and edited just so those who are interested can see the slight difference! Bear with me, should be live tonight! Thanks for all the new follows too! Lovely to have you joining us! C xxx
Is there a way to bring Santa back into the room?
Do you mean where he comes down the chimney into the room and then goes back up again? If so, then no. The reason why I had to record it off the app is because it loaded on my laptop and plays only the once. Hope that helps. Happy Christmas x
Hi Callie, Thank you. Yes, that is what I was looking for. If I hadn't found your video, I couldn't prove what I saw and others missed. I was looking for the same kind of appearance this year, in the Edwardian calendar. I did have help to find Father Christmas. I wonder if he can always be evoked?@@CalliesDiaries
I am not sure if he can. In the original 2013 video he pops in around a corner, back then to make him re-appear on Christmas eve you had to just play the 23rd and 24th bauble again to almost re-set the game, and then a note came up on the screen saying to look out for something (can't remember what it said now)! Bear with me, I am just editing the 2013 Edwardian as I have been asked for it a few times now, it should be live by the end of this week - it's quite rough being on a really old computer, but it's watchable! xx
My family actually has that calendar! It’s pretty much tradition that we do every year. We call it Globey
Trying to figure out the marble game, I can move the marbles but have no idea how this game works!
Hi, it's just a game, nothing comes out of it at the end to be honest. Just beating your last score and making either a horizontal line or vertical. There should be something to explain the game to you, once you are in the game?? xx
Near the bridge there is a little building - try clicking the dovecote at the top :)
I noticed the birds fly out, nice feature
Did you see you can play this again, if you load it up, it can be rebooted to play from the start. Which I thought was a nice gesture. I have added in 2024 walkthroughs, did you buy the Calendar again this year? Happy Christmas!
