  • The Sea Clings to My Heart is my original Fado song, as might be sung in Portugal by those who live and die by the ocean. Though it is their mother and their provider, it is also a cruel mistress that has taken so many lost lovers to sleep the deep rest of loneliness beneath her waves.

    Verse 1:
    Salt and white caps call my name
    From my lover lost at sea.
    In the heartbreak of my cold wood chair
    I think of his hands………..
    I think of his hair.
    I wonder if the ocean’s kiss
    Will steal my memories
    From the lover that lies………….
    In her deep arms.
    Verse 2:
    Did fate take my place at his lips
    Did it separate our hearts?
    Was it destiny that caught us---
    We couldn’t swim away from?
    Those who sailed that ship were
    Fools and reckless tyrants;
    Now I must live in silence………………
    As the salt air fills my room.
    Chorus:
    Bitter tears are worthless lies.
    The truth of love is stone.
    We rose out of the ocean's side
    To walk the land, but not alone.
    So she takes away our lovers………………….
    To her unforgiving hold.
    Bridge:
    Tell me!
    Tell me!
    Where’s the night a place
    To choose;
    When your lover is forever
    Lost too far away,
    Too far away………………
    To where love will always lose?
