This literally sounds just like the Lincoln Project today, and wow looks like others in the comments saw it too! Goldwater lost that election by a lot but oddly he was the loser that changed an entire party forever, and unlike anyone who came before really. That bullet you dodged in 1964? It boomeranged back and hit you in 2016. Unfortunately, if history repeats, the Lincoln Project and all them may be thrown to the trash bin of history just like pre-1964 Republicans. We'll have a nationalist-religious party on our hands for decades, and won't that be scary?
The thing is, this was produced by the Democratic Party.

Notably, this was an actor -- William Bogert -- opining these scripted thoughts. He reprised a variation of this commercial in 2016 to be used against Trump. Sadly, he was successful in tainting Goldwater's record and helping to elect Johnson in 1964. Of course, Johnson -- along with his misguided and possibly psychotic "whiz kid", Robert Strange MacNamara, got us further entangled in Viet Nam because of LBJ's insistence on micromanaging the war effort. He was so unsuccessful at this that he destroyed the Democrat's stranglehold on government (they controlled the presidency and both houses of congress), washed his hands of the mess, and shuffled off to Texas to die a bitter old man some years later.
Obviously, Nixon was not able to turn off the tap and -- because of his stupidity at permitting a "3rd rate burglary" of the Watergate -- was forced to resign after two super majority elections.
Happily, Bogert's 2016 effort at propaganda failed and we were spared the stench-ridden criminal, Hilary Clinton. He passed on into anonymous oblivion in January 2020.
Good riddance to this propagandistic mouthpiece.
Just for sake of clarity to anyone who scrolls down -- yes, the figure is an actor, but he *was* indeed a lifelong republican who described these views as parallel with his own & even improvised certain parts to include his own thoughts. To be clear, the ad was still being dishonest by not disclosing that it was showing someone who was a professional actor. It's just similarly important to not omit key details on our own ends.
