    Would you say that there is a set way that the dm test in the ucat is organised? E.g. first basic syllogisms then logic puzzles then evaluating arguments

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the DM section is usually organised in a set way. I can't tell you exactly but most tests are syllogisms, logic puzzles, data questions, strongest argument, and then some math/venn diagram questions

    Hey Emil, thanks for the video. At 18:31, you say you can tell there is a strong association because the whole passage is generally pointing towards that conclusion but how did you know for sure it is a "strong" association, what if it's a moderate association or something? Am i thinking too hard about these statements?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the passage essentially tells you that beta glucan causes cholesterol to be taken out of the bloodstream, so that is certainly a strong association. It's a hard question so I wouldn't stress over it too much, that experience comes over time

  • @natashakhong7066

    Hi Emil, haven’t seen anyone talk about what to get in each section (like in DM Out of 29) to eachieve certain scaled marks (300-900). Just wanted to get a gauge. Thanks!

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The reason no one talks about what to get in each section is because no one knows what score correlates to what percentile. Since scaled marks in the UCAT are based entirely on percentiles, the score (out of 29 for example) would theoretically change depending on the relative difficulty of the subtest. Apologies if this is a frustrating answer but I have no idea how score correlates to scaled marks in actuality

    Hi Emil! I was wondering how many hours a day did you assigned for yourself every day to study UCA, in preparation of the ucat in those 5 months that you prepared? how often did you do mini mocks and fulls mocks a month? Your channel is very insightful, keep up the good work.

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I usually did 2 hours a week for the first 3 months, then a bit closer i ramped it up to 6-8 hours per week. I usually tried to do 1 mock a week for most of the time and I'd only do mini mocks when I felt like it. It's more about the quality of your revision than the quantity!

    Hey Emil!
    I found that i tend to struggle with "Interpretting Information" primarily becasue sometimes I fail to make an inference (putting No when it is Yes) or because I make assumptions supporting the statement (putting Yes when it is no). I wanted to know if you had any tips to knowing when a statement is inferable vs. when it is an assumption?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a really difficult question to answer, but I'd say keep practicing and try to notice patterns when you make those mistakes. Usually things are considered assumptions if they aren't directly mentioned in the passage, while inferences can be made when things are only slightly mentioned in a passage.

    For statement 4 in question 1, how can you assume it is true because what if there is a time scale that we are just not told about, making the answer can't tell therefore -no. Can we assume that they will never have to apply in advance even though we're not given a time scale?
    Thank you.

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand why you might think that, but there's no time scale mentioned so you can't use that to disqualify the answer

    Hey Emil great video! I've got a question on decision making and was wondering if you could offer some insight.
    Question 1: Could you clarify what is meant by the phrase "not all" in syllogisms questions?
    For e.g if the prompt was "not all donkeys are red". And we were to select true or false in response to the statement "some donkeys are red" would it be yes or no? Essentially does "not all" include or exclude the possibility of 0 in its definition.
    Question 2: In response to the prompt "All donkeys are red" would the statement "some donkeys are red" be yes or no? As in, does the word "some" come under all or is the word "all" exclusively used for 100%?
    Thanks in advance and sorry for the chunky questions.

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! The UCAT testmakers have actually clarified that "some" and "not all" refer to the same quanitity - which is "a number that is more than 1 and less than all". I hope that makes sense

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In regards to the second question, the answer would be "yes" because "some" is a subset of "all".

      No worries, what it means by "in more than one way" is whether the soluble fibres are able to reduce cholesterol by more than one method. The answer is yes because beta-glucan, a soluble form of fibre, reduces cholesterol in 2 ways. 1. It stops the uptake of cholesterol in the small intestine and 2. It causes cholesterol to be broken down into bile. Hope that makes sense

    hiya! for any man/woman syllogisms, how do you know where gender stops? I've seen some examples where you account for other gender identities (e.g. non-binary) whereas other questions just use male and female, so the combination is really confusing me bc I never know which is the way to go 😖
