  • This week on Third Rate content, we investigate and explore the Norman Chapel of Hope, in the deep Shropshire countryside.
Abandoned during times of famine, plague and climate change, the village of Hope disappeared leaving only bumps in the ground and its exquisite and unspoiled chapel as a reminder of it ever having been here.
Today we visit Hope and see if we can find the key to the ancient door of the church!
Buckle up, and I’ll see you out here!

Maybe the single most important contribution to raising my skepticism regarding the car owner virus was that TH-cam posted dubious UN information related to it. Now on your innocuous channel on a completely innocuous and excellent vlog on a village in Shropshire TH-cam and the UN are doing the same on climate change. I began as a climate change believer, even worked within the industry, but TH-cam and the UN are going to incredible lengths to make me a skeptic.

“Car owner virus” I’ve never heard that term before 😂. Yes it does seem a bit heavy handed of YT/Google to give a warning when I was talking about medieval CC lol, tho it doesn’t surprise me. Skepticism about most things is healthy 👍 Thanks for the thoughtful comment, as ever 👍

Thanks for that walk around and the history lesson alongside. Never seen such an 'original' chapel of that age before 👍

I found your video to be very informative.
Undisturbed refuges are the best finds when exploring.
And it's very easy to go into a kind of time portal.
My ancestry is the Shropshire/Montgomeryshire region. Leaving that region at 13 for Western Australia has meant I have only explored it occasionally .
I was aware that regions became depopulated.
The Marches area has a certain magic. There's something happening in the land itself and where human activity was limited reveals the magic in ways like soil fertility and flourishing trees .
Maybe it's a geological vibe, as mountains get leached by the rivers, like the Severn.

Thank you! I certainly agree with you about the natural magic of the area. It’s great that you are staying connected with the land of your heritage, and I hope to provide more content that interests you. Kind regards 👍

If you do make the trip could I ask you the favour to sign the visitor book on my behalf Third Rate content (Dan) TH-cam (Shrewsbury) 22/6/2024. I was so knocked out at finding the key (I didn’t know it was going to be there!) And forgot to sign the book. I only remembered when I was driving home! Lol it bothered me 😂👍

    This may be of interest.
    Quaker chapels/ meeting houses
These buildings were concealed from the Anglican Authorities. Tucked away in the Shropshire /Wales lanes.
Also Dolobran near Meifod was where the Lloyd family resided. They created the banking house and funded Penn to kick-start the Pennsylvania colony.
There is a small meeting house outside Pont Robert, near Meifid and the old palace of the Prince of Powys.

@@thirdratecontent585 Matharafal was the medieval last Palace of the Prince of Powys.
It's a mound with big trees just outside Meifod.
Meifod itself has a unusually large Church enclosure. A "llan".
A church has been there for 1400 years.
I believe it was the initial Christian centre of the region.
Viroconium, the Roman settlement near Wroxeter Shropshire is 30 miles away.
Local follore says the Romans mined in Meifod.
