Great video. Would you do all of us a favor and do a video on your process of making the template for the top veneer that fit so wonderfully around the metal grill.
@@kikoilem What you do is come from the backside with the knife and go through the hole from the other side, making a small cut. Then go back around to the front and "feel" your way with the knife till you cut to the edge of the hole. Finally, cut small arcs around the hole circumference till you remove the area filling the hole.
Outcome was great ! Wonder how difficult it would have been to remove the metal grill and do it separate maybe make the job easier. But your end result was nice.
spandy22 basically, measure all sides and try to cut as close as I can, using straight edge, leave one good side for alignment. And then just got rid off extra material with utility knife.
Better to remove the veneer and sand down the wood and Stein it with a nice color wood stain. The end results will amaze you! I did this to two speakers, removing the veneer and stained the wood and they looked really, really great, even if zi should say so myself, looked really professional looking and a real big improvement to.
Good Job!, thank you for this video. I have a question, when you bought this veneer on E-bay was it already pre-cut? The top piece of Veneer that you applied had hole cut-out for the Grill, and I am wondering how that was cut out so perfectly. Did you trace the hole somehow, as you never removed the grill. What did you use to cut the hole?
Great video , not many of Us have challenged this feat ! , but i was given a PIONEER SX880 and the veneer is really bad . i thought about using contact paper in a wood grain ?.
It is a pretty simple project. Measure each piece and saw to size. Use a good quality plywood (Baltic Birch) and glue up with carpenter's glue. Stay away from particle board, that's the crap they originally used and degrades easily. Glue on the veneer, you can find it online.
Man, i wish you wouldn't have mumbled your way through the demo. Couldn't hear or understand much of what you were saying. And that's important in these videos. And how about the small edges of the sides that run in front and on the top? You didn't show that. But I will attempt to resurface my old Pioneer receiver by watching your video. Thanks.
Tracci Quartermaine Camera mic is just suspended high above him and he is facing his head downwards to see while working so it doesnt pick up well. Was loud enough for me, only way to fix this would be to use an external mic (bluetooth for example)
Maybe next time, you should do a little less heroin right before you shoot the video. I can barely understand you when you talk. and you are so energetic that you are putting me to sleep..
You did an awesome job there! VERY nicely done!
I have done this before but I stained my wood instead of the veneer and it looked amazing!
I had two speakers with that veneer stuff on them. Peeled it all off, sanded it down, and stained the wood. It came out BEAUTIFULLY!
Great video. Would you do all of us a favor and do a video on your process of making the template for the top veneer that fit so wonderfully around the metal grill.
my question exactly
And still no reply from the poster....
You've inspired me to replace the veneer on my receiver. It looks so beautiful refinished. I'm sure you make it look easier than it is though :)
That's what I wanted to see too! Also he didn't show us how he made the screw holes. I didn't see him put a mark to locate the screw holes later.

Beautiful job! Thank-you for making the video!
just an fyi, its easier to remove the black metal vent from the wood to paint it. and you dont have to use all that tape.
+Kelly S Thanks for watching and for the tip. Next time i'll do that.
@Mark Williams I used a hair dryer to heat up the glue. The metal piece pulled right up.
Nice work, looks really nice. Considering doing some of my stuff.
Excelente tu laburo, realmente te felicito.

You didn't show the details of how to cut around the grill and holes and have it turn out nice. I know how to peel and stick!
Yeah, that would've been helpful...
Awesome work! would be nice to see it back on the receiver at the end.
I was waiting to see that so bad
Nice work friend looks super great video.👍👍
jo min thank you
Perfect job ! A Pioneer deserve that.
antraciet Thank you
I would like to have seen how he did the rounded corners around the grill. Kind of takes away the whole idea of the video.
True, some very important details are missing.
Probably removed the grill from the bottom ( there should be little screws ) and then used a exacto knife?
Nice job!
Nice job. Would be good for others to know some of the steps you took when measuring the new veneer labels etc. thanks

Very helpful thank you
Wow, you sure got a nice receiver from your neighbor. What kind of wood is the original cabinet, under the wood? Is it like pine?
Great job!
Why not wood veneer? Cost? Looks good.
Great. I'll renew my SX-650 soon.
I've got an sx650 too, can you do mine?

The sides of the being MDF doesn't make that a good idea for this one. I'm in the middle of updating mine and I think that would look terrible...
Very nice job

+Teagar Sky Thank you. When I bought it, it wasn't precut. I took a piece of paper and traced hole first. Then applied paper on veneer and cut a hole.
What do you use to cut the veneer so cleanly?
Great Job =)

What did you end up doing?
@@rev420official5 I sold it !
Anyone do this on the sx 1250 ?
I used a hair dryer on the old vinyl to peel it off. I had to wear a thick glove to protect my hand but it came off in sheets with most of the glue.
Christopher Cahill
Thanks for the advice. I’ll try it next time
Amazing
It would be better if you could show what you did to cut the veneer.
dear, can you tell me what is the material you use is called and where I can buy it. thanks
Is there a video on how to Make a wood cabinet for stereo receivers??
M0D60 I wasn’t looking, but I’m sure there are some tutorials on how to make anything out of the wood.
@@Ebenezerdgailz Thank U

@@geobrown9413 My concern is cutting to right size. But I’m sure it’s simple. Tq for your impute.
Hi. ¿El material nuevo que colocas es madera natural o papel vinilo? Gracias.
+Pablo Ortiz Im sorry, dont speak spanish
Ok... sory... The question is: The new veneer is real wood or vinyl simil wood?
+Pablo Ortiz its vinyl veneer.
+MENTECH Thank you. Good job!
.
What color black did you use? Is this a gloss black?
Yes. :)
Thanks. Did you consider a satin polyrethane instead of Crystal Clear Laquer (Gloss)?
@@mtracy7055 I gloss
Hi.... nice work. Where you bought the veneer and how many feet?
+JOSE ESQUILIN
Hi. Thank you.
I bought it on ebay, $9 + shipping.
12 by 42 inch oak print vinyl veneer with 3m psa back
Where do you buy the Veneer you replaces with ? Thank You
ebay ;)
Go to Amazon.com
Ok... thank you!!!
Супер!
How did you remove the previous paint on the metal vent before spraying a new layer?
Choy Jeremy by sanding it
What grit sand paper@@Ebenezerdgailz
fowler3459 200 to 400 grit
fowler3459 I would use a 600 grit or finer so you won’t leave any scratch marks in the metal. Might even think of 800 grit.
It's easy when it's wood. How about that pressed saw dust stuff
goofyfoot2001 Hi. I didn’t know about it. If you can send a link so I can check it. Thanks
No link. Mine are that pressed saw dust stuff under the veneer. You can't remove it without removing chucks of the stuff. Pressed board I guess.
@@MindBodySoulOk remove it all anyway, fill in the gaps with plastic padding, sand it down to an even surface and apply veneer
Volume dude?

why do you not speak louder ?

Wasn't pre-cut. If you can find one, let me know :)
