I think this likely somehow ties into Ranger’s distrust. Either they somehow have amnesia or they’ve been actively knowing Claire’s position but still wanted “the truth”. Perhaps a lack of trust from the supernatural got someone close to them killed. Eight years is a long time.

This is falling back into the theory I had that Ranger saw some shit go down once upon a time (likely magic related), something that put them in the hospital and now, they have blocked out those memories (intentionally or not, trauma be funny like that) and so have no idea magic exists. Beth and the Ranger are such polar opposites, their interaction was absolutely incredible. I like the idea that the agency neglected to tell the ranger that the pack are wielders and they are very upset about it.
I personally don't think that [Ranger] inherently knows about magic. Either has an estranged relative that knew or was involved in a "serious incident" as a bystander (hence, why the NWL ID). But was left out to dry by the Regional Council and was deemed "crazy" by normal society.

I'm gonna take a moment to freak out here because for one, I FUCKING KNEW, Ranger was fucking sketchy! I knew they knew something! Tbf I though Ranger was a earth wilder because from the hike, just seemed how they predicated things.
