    I have fished for native brookies in Pennsylvania since 1978. Never ever saw or heard of a native bigger than 12" My two best were 12" with the vast majority of them being 5" to 8" but I consider every one a trophy- hand painted by God.

    As an avid wild/native brook trout fisherman in the state of Michigan, you’re probably never gonna catch a 15 incher in a small creek like that. There are lots of streams in the Upper Peninsula that look just like that, and from my experience the trout max out at around 12-13 inches. Maybe if you find a creek with large waterfalls and pools you could find a brookie that approaches 15 inches. I’ve caught lots of brook trout 15 inches or larger, and the best place to find these trout is in spring creeks that run through meadows, have beaver activity, and have aquatic vegetation. I’m sure somewhere in West Virginia there are creeks that have those three attributes. Best of luck on your quest!

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure there may be a place or two like that, but usually it’s one or the other. It’s either spring fed and small, or has beaver dams and temp issues (for the most part). Because of environmental issues most of the native brookie water in this area has been destroyed, and they’ve kind of been pushed into the headwaters of streams. That’s partially why catching a 15 inch fish is almost unheard of, and I’m not saying that lightly. I know of only 2 people in the state who have caught fish of that size (although many claim). But thanks for the advice!!

      I hate to disagree but I routinely catch Brook trout in a much smaller creek than this one and have several in the 17-19 " length a year. It depends on food and the depth of your pools .

      @hardmanfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To be fair, 12 inches is huge in WV too. But if you know WV water you can kind of narrow down where to look for bigger fish. Idk about the other states but certain drainages tend to be more productive or just have more connectivity. Which are 2 massive keys to bigger fish.
