Before anyone asks about the SJ5000+ - its on pre-order and I haven't received mine yet and don't expect to until 2015. If you stay subscribed you'll see the review as soon as it's ready....but don't expect anything until a few weeks into 2015.

They seem to be quite capable cameras, but not to the extreme of the black ones.
***** The reason he doesn't do reviews on the GoPro cameras is because if you look on TH-cam you'll find a million reviews already done. The idea is to review more inconspicuous makes and models for the more budget friendly folks out there.
Darren Boss Yep, he said that earlier and showed some search results, but that doesn´t answer the question. Also, since then, GoPro released a lot of new model providing much wider range and reviews still focus most on the Black editions and Techmoans recent GoPro hero video is much more successful than his other content, so it would make sense to make another one ;-) .
***** Understood :D But there's so many different cameras out there I don't think it would be possible to review everything as it came out. To be honest the GoPro Black is really for the hardcore action people. I believe it records in 4K? But for the price, it's totally not for me :D
No better analysis has been done on these cameras. By "better" I don't mean more entertaining or technical or more scientific or anything else, I mean it's the one that does the best job of educating us.

I brought an SJCAM M10 a few days ago and it has already arrived but I'm still waiting for the microSD to arrive! I'm going to use the setting your recommended as they seem to look good. Thanks for the video, it helped me find out abouat the camera.

I still have the sj1000 you revied a lot of time ago but as dash cam I turned to the G1W-C Full HD 1080P Vehicle Blackbox DVR No battery. I actually have 2 of these. It gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. This way I can leave them in the card and not care about the battery.

I've watched this one and the review for the SJ4000 numerous times as I pondered which one to get.
I'm going to buy an M10, mainly to use on my kayak.
There is one thing I find odd about the M10 waterproof case; they have a button on the case to activate the menu, but there are no additional buttons on the case to select the up and down buttons to navigate the menu options.
I know it's a small case, but that seems like an obvious oversight on their part.

Will you be reviewing the new SJ5000+ when it comes out? Do you know when it will arrive?
I think one thing you should have stated as the deciding factor between the SJ4000 and m10 is the WiFi connectivity which could be a deal breaker, especially with people that need it to frame their shots better or want to stream video. You should also bring up the fact that the m10 can come with a housing that also makes it compatible with the gopro accessories as that was not inherently evident.
Great review overall, I have the sj4000 wifi and the JVC adixxion 2 and I have to say i prefer the sj4000's video better. the jvc is built like a tank but I cant for the life of me figure out why the video is more grainy than the sj4000.
Will probably pick up a bunch more sj4000s in the future, great product without the insane price tag of the gopro.

The M10 appears to have a slight lens hood. One of my small gripes about my SJ4000 is that the lens is pronounced and, if dropped, could scratch. Even setting the camera down requires care. They were smart to add a little more hood but still it doesn't look like enough. Another mm would have made a big difference I think. Of course a hood could be an accessory too. The pronounced lens barrel would quite easily accept a slide on hood... if only they made one.

That was cool.. did you compare video quality of this to the polaroid cube.
Hope you'll be reviewing the new SJCAM M10+ and new Polaroid Cube+ and have a +battle for supremacy of the sub $200 cubes. GoPro S4 is ridiculously expensive at more than twice the price. Both these cameras are not yet available, Polaroid is saying their cube will be out around end of October/beginning of November

It's not mine, I was thinking about getting it.
I had one of these cams and it was brilliant, easy to get in and out of case, battery was easy to change, good image and easy to use, only had it for two years and the case mount snapped, but unfortunately you can no longer get cases for it, not even a cheap Chinese copy, so sad as the camera works great for my MTB but no longer can use it.
do you still have 'all' your sj cams? maybe a sj shootout??
In the end I got the 4000wifi, and I think you for your reviews helping me decide which one to go for.

There's so many video cameras available out there its difficult to choose, so I really appreciate your channel, do you know of a cheaper but decent video camera with the extension mic option. I'm looking but can't seem to find one... the Gopro has it but its more than I was hoping to spend. Finally do you know if the Medium and Narrow view option view in Gopro is any good? tia
Hope they improved the mount quality since the SJ1000. My SJ1000 camera still works perfectly, but all the useful mounts already broke even with very careful use.
Thanks for the (as always) quality review. I read somewhere that the M10 has one button more but a LED less. It seems it does not have the "Currently recording" LED the SJ4000 had. Can you confirm?

Thanks for the review! Do you know if you can go up and down in the menu when it is in the underwater housing, because I only see 1 button (for M) on the right side and not for up and down (maybe by multiple presses on the m button)?

Very useful video(s). Question that doesn't seem to have been covered elsewhere. I intend to use the camera for video on a bike - so all pretty simple. Also I have used a ordinary point-and-shoot- Ricoh camera for time lapse videos of narrowboat trips in the UK - 1 photo at lowest resolution (640) every 5 seconds, so around 6000 photos a day, sometimes constantly taking photos (manually changing the batteries of course). The camera has the option of turning off the rear screen so saves the battery, lasts for approx. 2.5 hours. Have spare battery so no problems there (as long as someone notices its turned itself off). So the question would be:-
Does the SJ4000, so therefore the M10, have a setting to turn off the rear screen (not every 3 seconds) so to preserve battery life. The Ricoh doesn't like it much when it rains (!!) and its not the same through glass (Perspex) so running a power lead to the camera wouldn't work too well with the SJCAM and not possible in its waterproof box. Not sure I want 2meg photos just to upload stitched video to TH-cam - any thoughts?
You repeated that the M10 can be used as a dashcam but I'm not sure if you're suggesting the other can't? Does one have loop recording where the other one doesn't or something?

I have the sj4000 wifi and was under the impression that it was 12mp pictures? The quality seems decent but nowhere as good as my slr

To know if the cam is recording now, you have to look at the top led light indicator, there is not indicator on the screen to know if the cam is currently recording now.
Is it still the same case now? I wonder if newer firmware can show some recording indicator on screen?
It is hard to see the led indicator when the cam is mounted as a dash cam. Thanks

I guess you we're talking about the Exposure settings, not the ISO (ISO is in hundreds). But I'm definitely looking forward on the SJ5000+ :)
Hey, I noticed a different lens or at lest a new coating, if you look at the reflections on the lens, you would see it.
I wasn't aware that it was possible to pick up any GoPro-a-like camera without making contact with its lens at some point. Incidentally, my GoPro WiFi app does not work on my Android phone. The SJ app works fine. Perhaps GoPro should copy SJ.

How long is M10 live time while recording? And could this camera used to be a webcam? I didn't see those things in your video, unlike usual. Or might be you spoke it I dont know, my speaker is currently damaged

But I'm still happy with my SJ1000 ( newest one ) they have fixed every problem that the original one had and it even survived a 70 mp/h impact into the road. Are you able to " repair " data thats kinda damaged ? I accidently turnd it off while it was recording because I thought it was gone. Is showes me that the video is 2.63 GB but nothing else. I had to pic up 6 parts of it that were all over the road
BUT after some soldering and butting it all togeher and readdusting the focus it still running totaly fine today

My SJ1000 experienced track too. Even though everythig has fallen off the camera, LCD was cracked and only the internals remained it still works. I made a new housing for it and it looks like a mickey mouse now, because of those two big black buttons on top of the case.

Did the old one also hat an aluminium front ?
I think that's one of the sesons why my SJ1000 didn't got totally ripped is 1000 bits ^^

Thank you for your excellent review of the SJcam 4000 and the M10. I learned a lot. I bought both for the price of the GoPro Hero3 Silver and still had money left over. I have one question for you. Do you do the voice for Audio Books? The reason I ask is that you sound EXACTLY like the man who does the voice for several C.S Lewis Audio Books. I bought an SJ400 based on your previous review, as did a friend of mine who bought 3. He uses it on his motorcycle. Font / back / and helmet view. Everyone that has seem the footage LOVES it..
I did want to metion that in your original review you commented that the SJ, performed much better with the ISO up one setting to +1/3 and have the HDR tourned ON. I use mine as a car dash cam now.. I am in my car 5-8 hrs a day, The cam does takes great night shots. And love the price. My friend lost the rear SJ4000 on a ride one day.. sucked.. But would have sucked a lot more if it had been a $400 Go Pro.
Have you updated the software on the 4000, if so does it process files like the m10 does? Thank you
I have purchased the M10 for use on my M/cycle. I have noticed that in some places the video footage breaks up momentarily and also I get a lot of black dots appearing in some of the shots, Using class 10 ,32gb memory card. This is when viewed on both the camera and PC, any thoughts please?

I just received my SJCAM M10 in today's mail. Due to your influence, the first thing I did after removing it from its box was to touch the lens for good luck. ;0)
I bought my 'deluxe' M10 version with accessories from ebay for $75 USD with free shipping. Just FYI - my M10's box didn't have the WIFI designation covered up, but I knew beforehand that it actually had no WIFI.
It's not a big deal because I have several, but my 'deluxe' kit didn't have a USB cable included.
Question - If I change certain camera settings, e.g., ISO, HDR, White Balance, etc., can I see the results (preview?) of these settings on the M10 screen or do I have to wait to see the results till after I open and play the files on my computer?

Greta video, but I think when the new sjcam was orangy it wasn't because of the cloud mode, however when you showed the cameras lenses I saw that the new sjcam had an orange reflection of your lights and the sj4000 had a blue tinge. So I think they used different lenses.

CardzReview.com not for this cam. The SJ4000 produces identical results and I've uploaded samples for that camera.
I think the lens are different, look at 3:44. SJ4000 is a little blue.

The multi file per folder thing is a firmware update. I can vouch for this as an SJ4000 owner.
Wich one should I choose the SJ4000 (+Wi-Fi) or the M10 and in the review of the SJ4000 Wi-Fi you said you could easily press a button on purpose is this fixed in the M10?

I am assuming that they both have exactly the same lens as well then? I'm not a huge fan of the fish eye style lens, but I bought a SJ4000 WiFi anyway since I didn't have much experience with anything other than my phone camera. After playing with it for a bit, it turns out I really dislike the fish eye thing... Is there anything that can be done to make the lens more traditional or should I just get a new cam? Thanks.
