I'm back here years later to talk about this fantastic ending. The writing? Incredible. "You must treat it as a gift, to know who you are. Without that, there's no hope for wisdom." "I wish i still believed in some sort of mercy." "Life goes on! THAT is the mercy." And the voice acting, god, props to whoever voiced Arthur. "I can't do that. Not anymore." These are simple lines but that voice acting truly makes them shine, there's an ocean of emotion poured into them.

That's a tough situation no matter what happened someone was going to die. For those shaming arthur, the train was taking kids to places similar to concentration camps or concentration camps themselves. At concentration camps your survival chance is low and unfortunately percy died. But it would have been arthur dead if percy stayed or both of them dead if they both went. Now i don't know everything, but i'm pretty sure if it was a choice between you or someone else dying it would be hard for you to choose.
They weren't being sent to concentration camps this is an alternate timeline where Hitler and the Nazis were overthrown and Rommel took charge they were sending kids to be trained as soldiers to fight Russia because in this timeline Germany and Russia were still at war but Germany lacked the man power to fight so they lowed the conscription age to 13 but still being sent to the eastern front was a death sentence

I know it's late but Percy has no reason to go as he is much older than the qouta but Arthur, realizing that he is screwed if he got into the train truck Percy to take him to the station only to backstab him and left him at the train. There's literally no reason for Percy to go because he's too old to be selected
It's not even the fact that both of them would've died, Percy was never meant to be in that train to begin with. The train was only meant for 13 years n below. Percy was older n had no business being being there, but Arthur persuaded him saying he needed him n that he should come with him so they'd take care of each other, so Percy agreed for Arthur's sake. Now whether this was all an act n Arthur had planned to manipulate his brother to take his place or he had cold feet n ditched him out of impulse, it's safe to say that he dragged Percy into it n sent him to his death. Kid or not, the gravity of his actions r too severe, so he should bel held accountable for what he did cuz he knew very well what he was doing n how it would affect Percy but he did it anyway. What's worse is that Arthur was the only person Percy trusted other than his mum who died of sickness while their own dad, who couldn't be bothered with him, was relieved to know he was gone.
They should make a sequel to Arthur's story, and at the end Arthur happens to stumble upon Percy in France and at first Percy doesn't recognize Arthur, but then after Arthur apologizes for lying to get out of going to Germany Percy looks at Arthur and says: "That's the one thing I've wanted to hear in the the past 20 years," they share a hug and the credits roll.

Arthur, there was no way to save Percy no matter whether or not you went with him. You'd die for nothing if you went... even though Percy wouldn't have to die alone if you did... Regret it all you want, it won't change the past. If I were you, I'd use the rest of my damn life to make a better impact on the world. Make your decision mean something, and I'm sure Percy will understand.
From what I've heard, while the story was good, the game play wasn't so much so people probably dropped it after getting frustrated with it before they could really enjoy the story.

This was the saddest most redeeming ending ever. I wasn't expecting such a sad lost moment of redemption, but in a way thie made sense of everything Arthur went through. Lifes gives you what it has left to offer you, and for the most part, it's nothing but an endless stream of regret.

Considering he struggles saying a sentence sometimes, talks very shortly and slowly like he is trying to get his words said in his head before he says them, and so on. Plus, it keys into Arthur's father not being too fazed about Percy being taken away, and not Arthur, when you pick up that memory
After the cutscene it crashed on loading and wont let me load my game and only start a new :( after 30+ hours I have to restart and these bugs are so irratating considering how long I've waited for the ps4 release

Black Flayer I restarted and im trying to get gemmas press pass and now im back at the lab after that whole thing and the pass isnt in my inventory, it says go to the lab but I need a press pass and I went back to the newspaper and now the lady wont even let me in and it says cant go back until I investigate Gemmas house.... wtf. this game was pretty poorly made but the story and writing. absolutely one of the best. arthur's story is definitely my favorite through how complicated and tragic it is, and with such a unique awkward and sarcastic character
I just started playing this game and it still blows me away in how surprising this ending is. Arthur isn’t really a bad guy but he’s also not a saint at all.
In ww2 Nazis would take children from occupied territories and see if they either had German ancestry or have some kind of use. After a series of tests they would determine who would live and . . . Not. An extreme example was in czeckslovaki where they killed everyone over 15 except the women under 30 for . . . Reasons and gave infants to orphanages. After the kid went through the tests only 8 were left after 500 that came in.
Okay does anyone know what happend to his brother. So far iv found three popular responses. 1. He died in a concentration camp. 2.he was conscripted into the german army and died. 3.the train crashed and everyone on board died.
The best thing that could've happened was that Percy manages to escape the train/camp and run off. That would be the ultimate continuation of the game.
The story is amazing but good Lord this game is the buggiest thing I've ever played. This entire last cutscene I had a black screen with just audio. Hurt more than Percy being taken.
But I would have been very happy if we had found out what ultimately happened to Percy. The developers blew a huge opportunity by deciding not to let us play as Percy. In any case, I think he could still be alive, since he is highly intelligent and has invented recipes for healing balms etc. The fact that he stutters and is autistic doesn't change much, as these people were generally dismissed as mentally handicapped or insane at the time.
It has been hinted that he has died. But it mostly is true since the kids in the train were sent to train as soldier or sent to Concentration camps. But I can guarantee that Percy went to a concentration camp since he had a mental disability
It's left to the player's imagination, it's open ended, no one knows what happened in germany with all the kids being sent there, no one knows what happened to Percy, but i think everything's bad for percy, since he can't survive without arthur

The constable offers him oblivion to forget entirely. From my personal thoughts. Arthur here got knocked out from the explosion and is in a dream. So once again its his own will what the outcome is. Either he will remember. Or just give up and go back. Excellent story. Marvelous.

Why would the constable quote something like that if he is about to guide Arthur to heaven. I think he gave him an option : 1: stay dead(take oblivion and just forget) 2: live on and try to right your wrongdoings( refuse oblivion hence staying alive).

Still don't get why so many people disliked this game.
From what I've heard, while the story was good, the game play wasn't so much so people probably dropped it after getting frustrated with it before they could really enjoy the story.
Because of how empty it is.

This was the saddest most redeeming ending ever. I wasn't expecting such a sad lost moment of redemption, but in a way thie made sense of everything Arthur went through. Lifes gives you what it has left to offer you, and for the most part, it's nothing but an endless stream of regret.

Actually that’s incorrect. Both are the proper age Germany would accept them as labor slaves, the reason why Percy wasn’t supposed to go was because he was “dim”, implying that he was mentally disabled, which is why Arthur pretended to stutter as he was too scared to leave London.
"this is a day we may all come to regret mr hastings, but i am NOT going to put one more child on that train that my duty obligates me to." it's heavily implied that the constable seen through the lie, but he let him go because he's already regretting what he's forced to do. letting arthur go was a mercy. it's also why arthurs ending works, both characters have guilt over what happened that day.

They weren't sent to death camps this is an alternate timeline where rommel killed hittler and reformed into a German empire and continued the war the kids were sent to be trained to be soldiers because they were still fighting the soviets

Arthur just takes care of Percy more like an older brother because I'm pretty sure Percy has a mental disability, either autism or something else? Considering he struggles saying a sentence sometimes, talks very shortly and slowly like he is trying to get his words said in his head before he says them, and so on. Plus, it keys into Arthur's father not being too fazed about Percy being taken away, and not Arthur, when you pick up that memory

I replayed and got back and it did it again. It's such bullshit! Btw did you also experience the game crashing at random moments or is it just me? Cause it would crash a lot on me and was annoying 🙁 I honestly thought I was the only one experiencing this

Black Flayer I restarted and im trying to get gemmas press pass and now im back at the lab after that whole thing and the pass isnt in my inventory, it says go to the lab but I need a press pass and I went back to the newspaper and now the lady wont even let me in and it says cant go back until I investigate Gemmas house.... wtf. I'm not playing this game a second time I got even more skills than the first and I just wanna play Sally's chapter and beat it 🙃. Fuck. I woulda got it for xbox but I dont have any ps4 games anymore so I said fuck it cause I need trophies. This is fucking stupid. I even help kickstart this shit and donated $20....if I woulda known this was happening I wouldnt have spent money I kinda needed for my school books this year on it.
It might not be possible but if percy is still alive (highly doubt) they should make a dlc where he escapes Germany and at the end him and arthur bump into each other while walking

Tomas Angulo From other comments and a bit of speculation on my part, what I think is it’s alternate WWII, Where Germany actually won on the western front and Invaded Britain, So i’m thinking the kids were being taken to concentration camps. However idk how he got off the train.
They were either going to camps or out east. He stole his brothers ID to get off the train.

but the story and writing. absolutely one of the best. arthur's story is definitely my favorite through how complicated and tragic it is, and with such a unique awkward and sarcastic character

In ww2 Nazis would take children from occupied territories and see if they either had German ancestry or have some kind of use. After a series of tests they would determine who would live and . . . Not. An extreme example was in czeckslovaki where they killed everyone over 15 except the women under 30 for . . . Reasons and gave infants to orphanages. After the kid went through the tests only 8 were left after 500 that came in.
Okay does anyone know what happend to his brother. So far iv found three popular responses.
1. He died in a concentration camp.
2.he was conscripted into the german army and died.
3.the train crashed and everyone on board died.
The best thing that could've happened was that Percy manages to escape the train/camp and run off. That would be the ultimate continuation of the game.

The story is amazing but good Lord this game is the buggiest thing I've ever played. This entire last cutscene I had a black screen with just audio. Hurt more than Percy being taken.

So Arthur had that mask but in the inventory slot it shows that he doesn't have a mask.
But I would have been very happy if we had found out what ultimately happened to Percy. The developers blew a huge opportunity by deciding not to let us play as Percy. In any case, I think he could still be alive, since he is highly intelligent and has invented recipes for healing balms etc. The fact that he stutters and is autistic doesn't change much, as these people were generally dismissed as mentally handicapped or insane at the time.

TL:DR ALERT!!! ts up to you if Arthur died or not. Lots of stories and good stories end with being open. Its up to your imagination what you think of it. There are hints he is guided to heaven by the constable. So he accepts himself on the way. But then again. It could be Arthur's imagination. Or even real. The constable offers him oblivion to forget entirely. From my personal thoughts. Arthur here got knocked out from the explosion and is in a dream. So once again its his own will what the outcome is. Either he will remember. Or just give up and go back. Excellent story. Marvelous.
Also i highly doubt he is dead. *Life goes on, that is the mercy* its like he has been given a chance. An another try. Why would the constable quote something like that if he is about to guide Arthur to heaven. I think he gave him an option : 1: stay dead(take oblivion and just forget) 2: live on and try to right your wrongdoings( refuse oblivion hence staying alive).
