The Borough doesnt mean anything, the Town of Wigan is 103k, Boltons is 139k. Wigan borough contains towns of Leigh, Astley, Tyldsleys, Atherton etc The people who live there would definately not call themselves Wiganers.

Bolton Wanderers have no natural rivals. Blackburn v Burnley are rivals. Blackpool v Preston are rivals. Most Bolton fans don’t consider Wigan (the Club) worthy of any rivalry because they are not of comparable size. Despite that fact that Wigan have had a better team for some years now.

Of these rivalries you've compared, Wigan and Bolton are closer than the other two. Bolton's natural rivals are Wigan unless you are to suggest that the gap between the two clubs is growing so inexorably that Bolton can no longer consider latics rivals, quite like their supposed rivalry with United.

Wigan couldn't fight there way out of a paper bag ,honest back in the day I tell no lies my club blackpool fc,used to run Wigan home and away remember it like was yesterday ,though thinking about it back in the 80 s Wigan never turned out in blackpool they knew better , obviously they went in the ground sht support anyway .
