  • This series will be documenting the build of a Gulf War Tornado GR1, using the Eduard limited edition 'Desert Babes' kit and a slew of extras. In part one I take a look at the kit and the extras planned for use, and make a start.

You are the first girl modeller I've ever seen, and let me tell you, you are a great modeller. And I think the same as you, I always try to use all the aftermarkets as possible for a model, realism and detail are always in my mind, even if I have to fight with those resins. Congrats and go ahead showing your great skills. Greetings from Ecuador

Wooow that’s going to be a great build
It might be a “ Difficult “ kit !! But it’s in very skilled hands
Looking forward to following this build Jen 👍👍👍

Side panels where you think the rivets are to deep are on the real thing about 15mm dia i know that for a fact as they are part of the wing box support structure and i had to remove them on 25FI, along with some intake skins and refit “ gripper pin nightmare” the side panels have to be separate because of retaining surface detail but I agree the detailing is all over the place. BTW the italeri 1/32 Main wheel bays are the ONLY ones wether resin or plastic that actually look like the real thing! That’s St Athan tornado majors for you. I might also say I’m impressed with your modelling its really crisp 👏

That's great info, thanks. It's surprising (maybe) just how far from reality most kits are actually. But in fairness, it only usually becomes obvious when you really know a subject well, like when you've done 25FI work for example!

Revell: It is good enough. Tamiya: It is not good enough. The difference in corporate philosophy.

Hi Jen- long time no speak. I'm currently having a second stay at the original IDS release, although I'm converting mine to an Italian ECR. I just cannot believe how much the moulds have degraded since I bought mine- utterly shocking. (and the original releases were not exactly good.). I completely agree with everything pointed out and actioned in your video. If you look around the 'net, magazines, and even Revell's own website and box images, it's easy to spot a rushed build of this kit. Truthfully it's poor, but it's also really nice- a real curate's egg. Before you get too far, you may want to have a look at the exhaust (I'm not sure it's correct designation) on the port side in front of the wheelbay. Certainly later airframes have a rectangular "slot" in that position, my kit has a sort of swirly hole.. Well nice to say hi and I'm off to watch part 2 now!

Hey Rich, how are you keeping? I have been quite surprised by this kit, I was expecting better but was also warned by a few people that it wasn't the best...

I think the reason for the strange parts breakdown of the front fuselage is the boxy shape, which makes it difficult to include recessed detail on the parts that are vertical in the mold.
Would have been nice if said detail would have been correspondingly nice, though.

Yes! I forgot to actually say that in the end, but that's exactly what I was thinking.

Is there a better kit you could have used?

Hi Andy, I don't think so to be honest. The only contenders are the Italeri and more recently the Hobbyboss kit. I don't personally have either, the Italeri kit is riddled with shape errors, and the Hobbyboss kit is basic. I don't doubt that either would be an easier build though!

This revell tool is quite new? I wonder if it's poor engineering, poor production (or both). It can suck the fun out of a build

    • @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft
      @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I think poor production is the major culprit, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the engineering really.

I should probably sell mine, it doesn't seem worth the work. what a terrible kit in terms of QC...

It isn't the best for sure, but bear in mind that I've made life hard for myself by using the resin wheel bays etc.
