    I would bet someone else has pointed this out already but if you want to have some fun. Look at the webcomic "fanboys" and look at how dramatically it changed after this video dropped. OFC this video all but directly called out CAD but, fanboys was another one that this video could be talking about directly (other than the miscarriage part being a bit too specific for CAD). It was kindof hilarious watching the comic suddenly being self aware of how non fans saw it and shifting to just comedy bits with 0 social life stuff. It was basically a fanfiction version of the artists life until then. I found it more funny than what happened with CAD because with CAD, this miscarriage part blew up and they were shat on by everyone, so it wasn't a surprise that they changed course. with fanboys, I can only assume it was a sudden realization of how they were seen by most people and cringing a bit. they didnt get the hate that CAD got but, they understood even without it. I'm too lazy to research if this video was actually posted in 2011 or if that was just the youtube reupload but it shouldnt be too hard to find if anyone cares. and with the fanboys comic there is a very obvious stop between all the social self roleplay stuff to just comedy shit.

    • @quinn4436
      @quinn4436 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Da Bro an insanely long webcomic about 4 kids who are internet friends dicking around in their houses, that eventually escalates to high-concept inter-dimensional scifi where the fate of existence is determined through an elaborate process of universe-rebirth that takes place in the form of a complex quest for the chosen heroes of whatever universe it starts in. There's aliens who are taking part in a different version of this quest in a different universe, and they communicate with the kids about mistakes they made, and what the kids need to do in their session to fix it. And then even more universe-destroying fuck ups happen from there, and various groups of players, alien and human, from various universes, all have to come together to one quest in one universe, as well as other characters in the afterlife, to stop an ultimate clusterfuck that all happened by everything in various sessions throughout spacetime going catastrophically wrong in just the right way, creating an unstoppable god of destruction who is eternal and invincible. It is intentionally frustrating in how sparsely all of this is explained, and how clueless the characters are in why they do what they do. It is also constantly absurd, and purposely garish in it's art, as well as cultural references and humor. Also 90% of the text is through characters chatting online. It is very arduous to read before you break through the wall and actually start enjoying it. If you *do* break through the wall it becomes one of the most awe-inspiring and heart breaking stories you've ever experienced, in it's own very bizarre and stupid way that absolutely none of your friends will want to hear about. The fandom can come off as irritating, but they're not as bad as people tend to think, it's just that any Homestuck inside-joke is inevitably smug and annoying because of how absurd the story seems from the outside, and how no reference is understandable without the context, and said context is incredibly hard to explain. It has been going on for 5 years, and is still not finished (though it's very close now). Worth the read. It's my favorite story of all time, and I've never seen more well developed and moving characters. When you take a look at the first page it could sound ridiculous that I'd say that, but you do kinda just have to read it to get it.

    As far as the tonal shift thing is concerned, I think it is normal for an amateur writer to do that. Not sensible by any means, but normal. People get creative the more they write, but they do not get the memo that inspiration from your own work is best used on other projects.
    If writers did not know when to keep ideas out of the current series, Doctor Who would have had all of Torchwood shenanigans forced into it, the last season of Batman the Animated series would have turned directly into a Batman Beyond set in the present day, Sailor Moon would have had a weird sword fighting season with a girl named Utena, Wolverine would be an ongoing villain for the Hulk only (as Sabertooth would be stuck harassing Iron Fist), and Dragon Ball (in a world without Z) would have been seen as suddenly tediously long and not funny enough after Goku got a kid.
    But then again some writers benefit from letting their stories grow like tumors. I am sure that is how Star Wars got started with nazis, space samurai wizards, cowboys, dog men, wacky robots, princesses, and laser canons the size of a moon. Anything can be done right, I guess, but it is best to set the tone with the complete eclectic insanity foot from the start.
