I was talking about this song with a friend a few days ago (Saturday the 14th). I was also thinking about watching the drama before last week. It looked interesting, so I started watching it. I had no idea you were going to do an analysis of this song. I actually felt like Tae was talking about a love that endured so much, but they would be there for each other. It’s a nostalgic the way the melody sounds, Taehyung really understood what the drama was really about. The "guess we were ships in the night, night, night;” for some reason, I thought that it was about the ships drifting beside each other or together rather than apart. I think all of this is also conveyed in the drama. This song was such a nice surprise and it's so beautiful. Tae's voice just makes it sound so soft and soothing, it's difficult to describe. He has a way with words and singing. I mean all of BTS has a way with words too; just in the way they know what to say, write, and produce. Taehyung really knows how to convey emotions when singing; a genuine emotion that stays with you. Also, there's just this pure quality to the way he does everything. He makes it so special, so special 🥺 All of these reasons are why I find him so endearing. I also love that he's getting more confident with singing in English 💜

@Martín Vizcarra That could be what he was thinking about. But the more I listen to the song it's about the character's in the drama, Tae has a good understanding of the characters. He was probably asked to write it for the drama :)

I really did feel the yearning and hope in this song, I feel it every time I listen to the song. Even if they were drifting apart like "ships in the night", the love would still be there right. There is no love without giving something. There are parts of the song that I really love besides the “guess we were ships in the night...night, night." Tae's voice here sounds so pretty, just the way he sings these parts: “Wondering if you’d want me now;” the reverb at the end of that sounds so pretty. “I wonder…If you…Are too good to be true…And would it be alright if I…Pulled you closer.” This sounded so soft. I noticed BTS talk about a body of water, like the sea or rivers and waves. I was thinking there's this quote from Frozen 2, "water has memory." It could be bad, good, and sad memories. You've also mentioned this about the drama like the bittersweet feeling, the past mistakes, full of memories and doubts. But also about hope and a strong longing for love. Everything about this song is beautiful :)
All this while I never understand why the lyrics said 'We were ships in the night...'. But thanks to your explanation video, Im starting to get what it means!
