- New Orleans is now known as the murder capital of the U.S. with homicides hitting a number not seen since the 1990s.
New Orleans Has America’s No. 1 Murder Rate. ‘We’re in a Crisis.’
Violent crime has overwhelmed the city’s police and is motivating some residents and business owners to leave
I remember watching this travel guide TH-camr, maybe last year?
Who said something along the lines of "Do not walk along random side streets if you are visiting New Orleans".
His words stuck with me.
“You’ll be minding your own business, until you get that phone call.” Ain’t nothing but the truth!
9 hours to respond to a 911 call. Wow.
Good morning Uncle Walter... This is your internet niece and baby I am from New Orleans and this is not surprising at all...as a matter of fact we held this title I believe three different times..
It saddeneds me that a city as beautiful as mine is overshadowed by violence amongst other things.
Memphis and Atlanta have to be closely following. This is just awful.
I used to live in New Orleans before moving back in 2019. I was raised in Louisiana and that whole state is nothing but a hell hole. I moved away because it was very stressful trying to find a basic job to meet my needs. New Orleans is beautiful but the city lacks economic opportunities. Also baby mamma and baby daddy culture adds fuel to the fire as well
The state is not a hell hole. Politicians have raped this city of its resources.
Maybe you should have become a clinical psychotherapist. I make 83k a year just starting out. I actually got offerred 88k job but I decided to stay at my current company tll I start my own business. There are opportunità here in New Orleans but mostly in the healthcare and mental health fields. I can go anywhere and find employment.
But the crime is too much.
They need to sterilize all of these out of control wenches and out of control boys who are nothing more than trifling sperm donors because they're sure as hell not men
Never been to New Orleans but only heard about it.
I always wanted to go to Mardi Gras but afraid, may just go to the Caribbean for carnival. Although its dangerous all over. Even my native island of Trinidad and Tobago is dangerous and we had 61 murders in January. Black people around the world are going insane.
Born there but grew up in Baton Rouge and we went over almost every weekend. Not the same place i remember anymore. Baton Rouge is off the chain as well. What's sad is that in some areas, it's a beautiful and historic city. BUT, we @@@ everything up.
I think B.R got the N.O beat. B.R is crazy on a another level
@@levelmindedsister551 yeah, especially with that recent club shooting..
I remember visiting NO back in 2006 with some native friends. While walking down one of the wards, one friend told me not to look at anyone sitting on the porch, and to look straight ahead at all times. Apparently, people there would hide guns in the tall grass in the front yards, with the intent to use them. I haven’t been back to NO. Mardi Gras isn’t worth losing my life.
Mardi Gras is the most overrated drunk fest in the world!
@@nunyafawkingbiz Okay. The people were so drunk, they were throwing up everywhere. I’d never seen anything like it.
@@a.Wildcat that alone speaks volumes for the city! A festival of drunk people and topless women throwing beads! Like what is fun about that ? I guess I'm just on my biblical journey and God definitely exposes that stuff!!!!
@@nunyafawkingbiz And get this, it’s not just the city of New Orleans that behaves that way during Mardi Gras. Many people are unaware that Mardi Gras is a state wide Holiday. Many businesses close and the actually close the schools too. There are parades in just about any small town or city in Louisiana during the month of February. I’m beyond glad that I don’t live there anymore.
@@sock1878 I used to live in New Orleans! None of anything that is going on down there is worth living in the conditions under such corruption and mismanagement and not to mention the thugs that benefit from it!!! Go down there if you dare!!!!
This story of New Orleans being the murder capital doesn’t surprise me. I remember learning years ago that the city had one of the highest crime rates in the country. So New Orleans becoming the murder capital was a long time coming.
I currently live in New Orleans. It’s the young people doing all the crimes. My brothers friend had his car stolen. They found it ridden with bullet holes and blood in it. They’re just killing each other. Breaking into cars to steal guns. Then stealing the cars to go kill their opps. The car breaking into got so bad, people would just leave their windows down so the thieves can go through their car without breaking the windows.
For anyone wanting to go to Mardi Gras. It’s not worth it. I have no doubt in my mind that someone will be shot and killed for stupid reasons. And it’s always an innocent bystander or a child. A bunch of murders have happened on the interstate now. It’s every where and affects every and anyone.
I left Philly for the same reason. Had to get out of there and I am not going back.
I’ve always heard N.O. referred to this way…I wasn’t aware the title had ever been assigned to any other American city.
DC late 80’s.
@@nopereradicator Chocolate City once known as the murder capital…sadly unsurprising. Prince George’s County used to be the zip code of the most affluent blacks in all the nation. Reminds me of what Detroit was fabled to have been in its heyday.
Detroit wasn’t a fable! I saw the affluent blacks who lived there.
@@WalterLeeHamptonII I wish I had been alive to see the time period when American cities that happened to have large black populations were thriving. Detroit, Gary, P.G. County, Baldwin Hills, Tuskegee, AL. I understand it was absolutely real, just wish I had been born in time to see black cities thrive in all their glory when prosperity wasn’t such a rarity.
@@jld7779 my problem is I just can't.. I just can't.. blacks, we can't exist....we can't live in a decent neighborhood without turning it crazy and wild...
Mr Walter...always a pleasure watching you Sir...no matter what the topic...and the doggies❤️❤️❤️💯🇿🇦
I immediately thought about you Walter. this is a really good documentary I watched on HBO Called “Atlantas Missing and Murdered” it goes into the history of the city - being called the crown jewel, electing one of the first black mayor etc. if you haven’t sent it yet, thought I would pass it on
I was born and raised in New Orleans. I currently live in the city. New Orleans has really gone down. It seems as though no one cares. We have over a thousand churches and not one pastor speaks out. It's all bout clicks and money, pastors sleeping with city officials and only god knows what else. To many people are to busy getting their pockets line up. The mayor is not from new orleans, she's from up north and can care less. I will be moving out of the city soon. It's really sad.
New Orleans suffered a major blow from Katrina in the form of a "brain drain" of professionals, as well as top university students, the large majority of whom have not returned. The public school system in New Orleans is not doing well. The economic opportunity for unskilled and low-skilled young workers is very limited.
The Mayor openly admits the obvious that there is an insufficient number of police for the City but there is no "magic" on the horizon that will add an additional 600 officers in any foreseeable future. The New Orleans juvenile justice system is nearly non-functional.
It is completely delusional to think New Orleans can adequately investigate and successfully prosecute this number of murders in a year.
However, I would not hesitate to visit New Orleans again and look forward to doing so.
I used to live in New Orleans I'm scared to go back
New Orleans has always been a broken city, period. And here's what just boggles the mind when it comes to our Black folks..... We show up to the city hall meetings, yelling and screaming for police to do something about the rampant crime....then when aggressive policing happens...Black people show back up to say something needs to be done about the police!
And for all you "Quick to respond but slow to think people".... I'm NOT advocating cops slaughtering people when I said "aggressive policing."
TRUTH!!!
I’m from New Orleans and unfortunately it’s like a was zone down here and now with carnival season here it’s about to be like the Wild Wild West
My hometown and where I currently reside. Best place ever but the crime is and has always been out of control. Smh.
I older I get the more I realize we are the problem. By we, I mean all the politicians, government systems, and citizens. America has designed a dysfunctional system that it can’t unwind. No one mayor can stop this system especially when the dysfunction is profitable.
I live here. This place is wild as all outdoors. I'm in the process of finishing my biotech degree and leaving this cesspool. No one leader will make it any better.
Walter there was a story in Chicago 2 days ago where a 80 year old shot 2 intruders that broke into his condo.
Lived in NOLA for 5 years. It was, and still is baaaad.
I wouldn't go to New Orleans to save my mama's life lol
😂😂😂
I agree with the observation of the concerned citizen at the town hall who cited a lack of consequences emboldening criminals. But just like no one can continually make money by curing cancer, people can’t perpetually accrue passive wealth from the issue of crime being solved, smh.
Please explain how crime helps create wealth?
@@WalterLeeHamptonII HBO’s “The Wire” does a masterful (and far more entertaining) job of contextualizing just how deep the rabbit hole goes in terms of who profits from urban blight. The scale of Baltimore and New Orleans may be different, but many of the challenges cities like those face are shared.
I agree, many children are no longer being raised.
Where are the 'good' black men to rein these males in? How come they have no responsibilities to the black community like other groups of men do to their communities?.
Hey Walter and WLH Subs, I agree 100%, keep your health in check medical, dental and vision, blood pressure, bloodwork, cancer screening. It's so important to stay on top of your health care. Thank you Walter for passing alone this information.
...As a law enforcement officer, I personally feel the outlook here is grim. The George Floyd incident caused many people to not want to get in law enforcement and those in it want out. Then you just had the Memphis killing of a black motorist by rouge officers. This is a damn if you, damn if you dont job. The police are the ones people call for help but if an officer roughs up some riff raff or even shoots an armed person, then they are going to be thrown under the bus even though they were justified. Many Officers are very hesitant to respond to certain calls because they fear being blamed for excessive use of force. For those who say they just need to quit their jobs then, sure that is exactly what they are doing and that is why the crime rate is spiraling out of control. Be careful what you ask for, you will definitely get it in 2023!!!
So you're on the internet blaming George Floyd and Tyre Nichols for their own murders? That has nothing to do why people don't want to go into LE. They don't want to go into because they know they can no longer murder without consequences. We all know we need LE, what we do t need are for you and your blue brothers to judge, jury and executioner.
The man that unalived the 13 year old probably saved the community from the crimes he would be committing in the future. I visited NO several times & love the culture but it’s not a place I would want to live in. It’s been in the top 2 for M capital of the US for a few years now.
He was wrong island girl and he will serve time. Unfortunately this same law did not apply to George Zimmerman.
The mother of the 13 year old got on local DC news saying her son was the "Man of the house" to her and his younger siblings.🙄
New orleans has been losing officers for years, including the years the mayor was on city council, so she was aware of it, but like everything else, she does not hold accountability, but she loves to party. That's another story. The police in NOLA have alot to deal with including working forced hours for Mardi Gras which is millions of Visitors.
Blaque people had the nerve to say "Defund the police" and the women keep getting knocked up by pookie and ray ray while he runs back to prison to be released for $1 for taking laquita out🥴😑😶🙄
Release the man that saved the community from that 13 year old criminal & arrest his parents for child neglect.
What does that have to do with the NO? The 13 year old was murdered in DC unless something similar just happened in the NO. And the man that is in jail in DC was arrested because they have him on video murdering the child in cold blood. You People will say anything on the internet. SMH.
Smh...why???
When there are Black youths running the streets unchecked & without proper guidance, these things will happen. Most of those arrested are released back onto the streets because the prison system is already overcrowded & court systems overwhelmed. There's also corruption going on in our criminal justice system. I believe it takes both parents to keep a tight leash on our kids these days. We can't rely on police to protect & serve-things could go wrong fast with finger pointing as end results.
New orleans is the worst American city I've ever been in
Slow ya roll nah. Let’s not get carried away. 🙄
Slow ya roll nah. Let’s not get carried away. 🙄
It definitely has a crestfallen vibe to it…Like NYC before the towers went down, I wish I could’ve seen New Orleans in its prime before Katrina.
@@DailyPositiveAffirmatives violent but different more authentic back then we call it the old New Orleans
What city you from? Because I bet your city isn't a bed of roses either.
And New Orleans is so corrupt they won’t do anything about it. Rest of Louisiana is beautiful though.
You've got too many Black single women raising out of control boys and having way too many babies like alley cats from failed relationships
TRUTH, and what you said is the ROOT of the problem. Lack of thumbs up for you because we have never been able to handle the truth. You get a resounding TU from me bro.
I’m so glad you speak on ensuring your health is ok even when you are feeling ok. I have a friend in his 50s chronic smoker, diabetic, sedentary who is currently experiencing alarming health issues but he won’t see a doctor because he does not have insurance and he only cares about paying his bills despite his declining health. Why are some people so hard headed 😢
You can have Mardi Gras Bourbon Street and The French Quarter thanks but no thanks I ain't missing nothing
Capitol punishment. These kids/people are out of control these days. Let the punishment fit the crime. You steal, take a hand; you take a life, give your life. Sounds drastic, doesn't it. But here we are. This should go for ALL races!!!
New Orleans held that place on and off for years ..Chicago too.. I used to watch the Comedian Boogie BS..videos about New Orleans..hoods in particular. He had extensive knowledge of the city and shared it in a humorous way. It was sad to hear that he was killed while out Christmas shopping days before Christmas..Bullets don't have names and these yun toting lunatics don't care who's life they take while shooting..It's horrible..the murder violence down there has been bad. I hope things get better..
You and Earl again, lol! You two can't live without each other.
Some people are in denial. I think they can live forever.
I don't make a difference how many cops you hire ,if the judge do nothing more to let the criminals right back in the street ,the crime never ends.these judges need be held accountable for letting these criminals free.
Im homeless in Houston TX and your right jobs are scarce and people are becoming home less . I'm applying but job openings start at Dec 2025 y'all. it's a real collapse
@@sock1878 that's why I'm studying to get a better job. Got to do what you can
I swear I wanna move to another planet and start over there because sh*t here is nuts!
Get rid Cantrell, start over with the city council! All of them are shady!
This city and others like this should just Ban Guns and have a curfew ⚖️
Too much like right.
I agree! I only God can change this.
yes unbelievably it is my wife is from there we live in the loganville Georgia area now, but she has parents living there. I do things I normally wouldn't do when I'm out they're from any other places like I rarely sit in the car waiting for folks to go into the stores I just joined them and going to the stores or ask him to go during the daytime. even daytime shootouts occur
Why don't these cities have curfews for teens under 18? Start with that!!!
Who's going to enforce that? Not enough cops on the street for that.
@@nightnurse9619 And people will cry racism where the curfews are most needed
They sit all day on those violent games which program their minds to stay up all night and act out on the games they played all day. Ban the games and we just might be ok
A dozen? Whats the population of New Orleans? Its sad
16:24. Yup. Stay away from hellbounds. Do not try to help or defend. Your life will depend on it.
Sad
St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, Philly and Detroit...all challenging for the top spot.
Don't forget to add Memphis

Walter, doggie daycare kept my sanity. My dog is an italian greyhound terrier minpin mix. He is about to be 7 and still has the energy of a puppy. Did I mention he is fast like a greyhound. I drop him off when they open at 6:30 and pickup at 6:30 pm. ALL DAY! My second home is the dogpark.
