*For those who it isn't working for*
10 months ago it seemed to work for a lot of people though since newer updates have come out, it seems to be completely random on who it works for now unfortunately. I have been running tests and looking into fixes for the people that are having issues with this method but like I said before it has been completely random. I have been suggesting to most people just to reinstall the game and try the method again as it seems to be a bug with the game saving applied settings.
i have this problem but when i switch to 16:9 1920x1080... i don't see no one with this problem. could u maybe have a fix for that?
i can run 4:3 with full hz but not 16:9

@@CintrixIRL ok i figured its because im not using a hdmi cable, but a display port one.
@@prodhallo that wouldn’t be the reason, you should still be able to see that option and be able to switch to it. Unless because your on HDMI and that port limits your monitor to a certain hertz maximum that’s lower than display port. That’s the only reason I could think of.

For those that didnt work, remember you have to click “apply changes” when changing to windowed and back to normal both times.

when i put back at 16:9 rez it dissapears or sets back onto 60hz
Check to make sure that you are in full screen before you begin. If you aren't it'll change your settings back once you switch to full screen
i just made a custom 1280 x 860 75hz res in nvidia control panel and it stays at my set refresh rate

aight so basically u wanna put it on 1920x1080 and put it on fullscreen window. then u go onto nvidia control panel and pick the resolution and the hertz and press apply. then it applies to cs2, but u switch it to fullscreen and now you’re able to change the res. press apply after changing it then that’s it!
It only worked for me if I had it on fullscreen before making changes but if that's what works for your situation then I hope it fixes it for you!

Idk if cs has changed it since, but for some reason I dont have the Display mode option there

my monitor is a 165hz and I have it set to that on NVidia, however in cs2 its capped at 144. I was wondering how I would change that.
Interesting. After you change it from full screen windowed it should show the max hz that your monitor offers. I would go into NVidia and just apply the 165hz again and open CS back up and try the process again
-Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\889183911\730\local\cfg\cs2_video
-Open w notepad
-Change "setting.refreshrate_numerator" "60000" to your freq multiplied for 1000, for example, for 144hz use "setting.refreshrate_numerator" "144000"
-Done
If you change any video setting you need to do this again
For view your frequency type sys_info in console and search this line "Vid: Exclusive Fullscreen, render at 1024 x 768, display at 1920 x 1024, refresh rate 144.00Hz (144Hz desktop)"

u may use a HDMI instead of display port
@edyeduard77 I do, but I also have the monitor overclocked for HDMI and it's worked great p problems for years on CSGO
Only option I get is 120 hertz in cs2 video options when my monitor is 165 hertz and I have it overclocked to 145 hertz cause hdmi limits to 120

it's capped at the current refresh rate in fullscreen
The console command fps_max should do the trick!
This problem seems to be popping for a bunch of people now since the last driver update, for me a fix was simply to roll back the version (I did it through device manager, can also be done manually)

is it the 560.70 update ? i had to rollback because of it, didnt work in multiple games like that

So the problem is, if i do what you did, i can select 165 hz. but when ich apply changes, go into my invetory or smth and than go back to video settings it says 60hz again. So i guess it never really switches to 165hz and just always stays at 60, so your "fix" is in reality just a indication error which lets you "select" the higher refresh rate without ever changing it from 60 hz in reality.
I’ve had a couple of people say this to me. Seems to be a bug in the setting

Yeah my monitor is 165 hertz but its getting capped at 120😭 and nothing ive tried in Nvidia settings or cs2's has changed that
I actually have a friend that is currently having this issue. Nothing we have tried worked for him yet. Will let you know if we figure something out tho.

how can I enable 144hz when I want full screen window mode since it disabled the refresh rate option? only fullscreen while playing it plays at 144 BUT on window at only 60 hz
Yeahhh unfortunately if you want to play stretched res it has to be in full screen

What’s the highest hz rate your monitor can offer? If it’s higher than 120 then I would look into your Nvidia control panel and make sure your monitor is set to the highest it can go. If it is though then yeah it’s probably just a bug in cs unfortunately. Let me know though!
i have a 144hz monitor, and am running amd. Everything is set to 144hz outside the game. My fps ranges between 250-320 fps, im guessing its running at 144hz but the ingame settings still says 120hz...has to be a bug@@CintrixIRL
@@FlinT1080p yeah that sounds like a bug to me. Its okay it was telling me that I was running at 360hz at 1280x960 stretched rez since the beta and I just thought the game had a memory leak issue but I just recently switched to 1440x1080 stretched res and I can confirm I was playing at like 60 to 75hz since beta 😂

So I have a problem, I have the 144Hz option, at 4:3, 1280x960 resolution, but when I put it on, it still feels like you're playing at 60Hz, lags and so on. But when I switch to fullscreen windowed, it automatically switches to real 144Hz. Please help!

@@PaaTrixX I had this issue as well. Even though it says 144hz you’re still playing at 60. I would check your Nvidia Control Panel to make sure your monitor is running at 144hz. There was a moment for me that when switching to 144hz in game it actually switched my monitor back to 60hz.
@@CintrixIRL it does, in every other game it works, only cs2 not working.. and i tried to log in into other acc, it works there aswell.. so only at my main acc.. lol i do not know how to fix it😞

Well, when you have such a shitty game that causes numerous issues to users via settings that weren't thought out, this is why they're made.

Custom hz rates are normally something that is done in the NVIDIA Control Panel with custom monitor profiles. I don't know if cs will have it as an option if you make one tho.
your trick kinda worked, however, the max the game would let me up the refresh rate to was 75 hz, for context, i have a 144 hz monitor. Whats up with that

bro i already 1 match my refresh rate is 75hz and then i quit to desktop and login again its capped to 59hz and now i dont know how to change, i follow ur step its dosent change anything damn :(
There’s a couple of people who this has happened to. Best thing to do is to uninstall and reinstall and try again.

I haven’t heard of anyone having this issue yet. My suggestion would be to tab out of the game and tab back in. What resolution do you play on?

Make sure you have the stretched res already applied before following these steps. If you don’t it’ll just keep reverting to 16:9 1920x1080

sorry to hear this. I have friends who had the same issues as me and my method didn't work for them either and only different methods worked. CS2 is completely scuffed.

Make sure you have saved your settings to be full screen before trying this. If you don’t then it will continuously revert all resolution settings that you try to change.
